Love TDU. It has something Forza hasn't achieved yet, a (roughly) geographically real map. Oahu's diverse environment in a relatively small area lends itself well to this, but it would be awesome if the next Forza actually had a real map. I liked the way TDU had car dealers to visit and houses to buy with garage included. A complete and addictive game well ahead of its time.
Still is ahead of its time. Only game to get close imo is gtav/o. Which is a shame. Idk what the crew is anymore and i cant bring myself to drive around horizons little maps

How is it underrated? It's from 2006 it was almost as popular as Most Wanted back than but nobody talks about it because nobody remembers Test Drive since their last release was 2012 i think, EA makes in 1-3 years a new NFS
Fh is a very good looking game ill give it that. Tdu is a very good game that has many flaws but has soul. Pulls you in. Makes you want to walk around your garage and decide what kind of driving you wanna do. Watching this makes me ask myself, why hasnt anyone done what tdu has done but better?

The company that makes the WRC games owns the test drive Unlimited license and said they were looking to make one. This was back in 2015 and I haven’t heard anything since. The crew 2 is the closest we will get until someone decides to make TDU3.
One thing I love about TDU that FH doesn't have is the immersiveness. Visiting and discovering dealership, real estate agents, clothing stores, paint shop, etc. You get to pick your car's interior color and test drive it before you buy. And you can actually see the working mechanism of the roof coming on/off in some cars.
Opening and closing windows is my most favorite part if game. When the window is closed you can hear the wind and the sound of car like you're really inside the car! When you open the windows the sound of car become louder to you plus the wind too! Another amazing part is when you change the view, the sound of car changes too! It depends how far and how close is to the engine and exhausts Such an amazing game!!
The thing that bothers me most about modern racing games is that none of them include authentic speedometers anymore. It was so cool having the actual speed gauges from the cars you were driving. Please bring that back in TDU:SC!
TDU wasn't my first car game, but definitely my favourite one ! I have no clue how many thousands hours i spent on it, but i know i had AT LEAST ten cars with 1k miles + on the odo. I think a few of them had more 2k miles !
@@tudythegangster There is a high chance it will suck. But you never know. Big Ben might actually hire competent people and actually spend development time on it. After the mess V-Rally4 was god knows they need it. For me its going to be a instant fail if they don't get the map right.. Its a MMO driving experience after all and they better not cheapo on the driving physics..

The physics engine for Forza Horizon games barely changed over the years. Forza Horizon was inspired by TDU games. You claim nostalgia, but I claim typical, ignorant FH fanboying. Every car in FH feels damn near the same, sounds are horrible suppressed, the map is not impressive at all, customization is a little better than TDU games, but that's just it... a little, no clothing stores, own castles and houses but can't access them, no car wash with sexy girls washing your car, crappy clothing, no character customization, events are unfun and unrealistic... ahem Lego, like who the hell wants that? But what you also fail to understand is that TDU had other features such as buying yachts and houses that were accessible, clothing stores that were accessible, dealerships, car washes, etc. Rolling down the windows of your car, ability to use blinkers, ability to control the lights, and a lot of other things that, while small, are still nice little details that should be taken to consideration for newer games... and you are completely disregarding them simply because the game is fOrZa HoRiZoN 4, and it's new. I loved that in TDU you could change stuff like the interior color, and change between different stock wheels, not only aftermarket. And of course buying house's and walk in them or go to your garage and walk between your cars. Forza is slowly getting there in Horizon 4. Lets hope Horizon 5 is gonna be more like TDU.
@@vitaleeym The in game GPS is shown in cars that have an infotainment screen so yes, it does have functional interior GPS, although not with the manufacturer design like the gauges. For example in Audi A6, Cadillac XLR, several Mercedes-s etc.
You do know that you can fine tune colours in Forza horizon 4, right? Look man I can see you prefer test drive unlimited but many of these comparisons are pretty bias or irrelevant.
This isn't a comparison, it's a cherry-pick of features that Horizon doesn't have. While I'd like a lot of these in Forza as much as anyone else, most of the dropped features were intentional omissions in favor of something else. Because I'm incredibly annoyed, I'll counter every point except the headlights and windows. There _is_ a paint color selector in Horizon, hit X on a regular paint color or most of the Special Colors. Interior colors are omitted in favor of a more customizable exterior paint, though I do agree that Interior customization would be great. Automatic headlights was probably either to make the game easier to operate or because they were out of controller buttons. I agree that the windows should move, but in this incredibly nitpicky video you missed the convertible top operation in TDU (or was that TDU2?). The lock-on side and rear views are meant to be practical, so that a quick flick to the back or side during racing gets you what you want. The rear interior rendering is omitted so that the interior you _can_ see is more detailed, as the game has to be optimized to run on actual hardware. Police aren't unanimously viewed as a "good" feature. They're my least favorite part of TDU2. Transmission changes (stalling and neutral) are for ease-of-use. When's the last time you've actually used neutral for a good reason in a game? Forza's speedometer is specifically made to be easy to read, as opposed to a semi-transparent version of each car's speedo. Also remember that Forza has 400+ cars. The cars in Forza _do_ have odometers. They're inside the car, which all you detail-hungry people like me will easily find. You literally showed the character customization screen. Even if it's not exactly what you want, it's more than most racing game players even care about. Motorcycles are in no way a necessary addition to Forza. Turn10 and Playground have never been my favorite developers. However, it's ridiculous to ignore the incredible improvements in graphics and driving physics (even by Forza games in the same generation as TDU) to nitpick about completely unnecessary features. Don't call this a comparison. Something more sensationalized like "TDU Features Forza Still Can't Match" would more accurately fit the tone of the video.
Perfect comment, I highly dislike these kinds of cherry picking videos. I mean, people are allowed to have their preferences, but the argument of "GTA 4 is better than GTA V because you can throw bricks" is overdone and annoying. I recently came across a video entitled "assassin's Creed unity is better than assassin's Creed Odyssey" which is the same deal, cherry picking a few minor aspects of unity to highlight without showing any of the good things Odyssey has, despite Odyssey being an objectively better-made game
You are absolutely correct If Forza was an only PC game, they would add all those features bcoz keyboards have lots of buttons How many more functions would they accomodate on a controller? And you'd absolutely prefer not to have cops in Forza.. That's the best part... And Forza is based on the concept of CARS...only Cars...so they will never have bikes.... (Unless the devs go mad)
Though I never played FH4 and has TDU as childhood game, I do agree with you. It is impossible to ignore all the newer, more detailed cars, weather and time stuff, and multiplayer feature(which is shut down on TDU, very sadly)
One of the features I wish Forza had that TDU did is the option to spec your car from the lot, different options of factory interior colors, factory wheel options, and other accessories. Also controlling the top on a convertible car would be cool, driving around in a convertible with the top down during a snow storm in the middle of winter seems a little unrealistic to me.
Many friends of mine laughed because they did not understand why I bought a super computer to play TDU and not Forza, so they tried it and played it ... now they also love TDU, and we have it with TDU Platinum, the graphics are somewhat improved and there are more than 800 cars, apart from that it behaves like a real simulator despite being from 2006
Fun fact: If you use a steering wheel whit H-Shifter in TDU you can’t use the H-Shifter for paddleshift Cars (like some Ferraris) and you cant use paddleshift for Cars whit Clutch an H-Shifter. I think this is a very pretty detail from the Developers.
Forza Horizon games really suck compared to the first TDU. For starters TDU servers could be shifted simply by selecting a different group of cars on the map, without some big server transfer. It was much closer to a real open world because of that. You could see car groups from many servers and simply pop in instantly just by fast traveling to a group you see. The car dealership experience, with different ones all over the map, was really nice.
I literally still play tdu especially with the platinum mod! It's just such a fun and feature rich game that was clearly way ahead of its time! Just completed the "Tour of the island" challenge while listening to a podcast last night to unlock the type 57 Atlantic!
FH series focus is to race sure is has a social platform. But TDU did that better plus Ohau was amazing to drive around and explore get lost and what not. TDU was always more of a Grand touring game which also had the right idea about life style that came with it customizing your character(s) buying houses and customizing that. In my opinion for an open world driving/racing game I still find TDU series superior. Crew series comes close but lacks the lifestyle and social experiences as do most open world racing games do.
@@davidmckenzie6505 TDU was always more of niche game not as popular as NFS and other Racing games, so I believe commercially it didn't do as well. TDU was also way ahead of its time. FH4 only just now has some character customization and buying some houses but it's more of a novelty. While TDU did that really big in a way you could get surgery to change your face, Go shopping for clothes/houses and go to dealerships to buy cars. Which made it hugely immersive. Start or find a club to join. Socialize to challenges within the club for Club Exclusive cars. The latter was mostly TDU 2. Closest thing to get an MMO Driving game. which still hasn't been rivaled on equal terms. Crew series comes close but lacks the lifestyle options and what not. Just a really cool world to drive through. Biggest drawbacks of TDU were the Car list though impressive but somehow at the same time very lacking. Really in depth car customization all though I personally didn't mind it as much seeing i could focus on other stuff in the game. Physics were wonky at times.

I still have TDU on my PS2, 360 and PC. Going back to play it the other day, I just enjoy the environments a lot more than FH in general. Forza does have better vehicle customization than TDU. Just one thing. In Horizon 4, the odometer on the dashboard inside the cockpit view does work, at least in the vehicles I drove.
That's exactly what I thought about tdu3!! I like the gameplay oft TDU1 for PS2 most, so real yet arcady physics. But graphics are better in any other TDU game :-D
Fh4 does have a color selector. Fh4 has much more cars, infinitely better driving physics (wich basically is the most important aspect of a racing game) and way better graphics
Im not sure if FH4 has better driving physics :D TDU has working FFB. In FH4 cars behave like on rails, driving is simple. Gravity in both games is similar.
Thats about it. Game gets boring as hell real quick. They could have done a lot with horizon but the game is lazy. Tdu is the blueprint for its genre yet no one has really taken advantage of it (maybe crew and gtav).

In FH4 there is a Neutral gear if you have a wheel setup with a shifter There is a odometer in FH4, but you have to do a glitch to see it close up. Also you can check the car's history in the car selection menu to see the mileage on the car also.
So hyped about TDU3 (Which has been "announced") but I really think TDU is an unbeatable game, it is going to be so damn hard to create a game like this one, with the big map, car variety, house admin, change the character appearance. The fact of going to the dealership to buy a car, well you know. That tiny details that make the game so realistic and good. And I can continue with, The blinkers function, the window, etc. What a piece of game.
You forgot to show the turn signals on cars. I always liked to use turn signals in Test Drive Unlimited to feel like I am a real driver especially when doing Taxi missions or car delivery.
TDU was way ahead of its time. The perfect game would be TDU map and mechanics, with Forza Horizon physics and graphics and car selection, with Need For Speed customization.
I have played most racing games, tried simulation and arcade, but TDU is the best game if you want to drive a ridiculously expensive car in beautiful circumstances and have it all. Today I bought a dvd from TDU because my CD has worn out and stopped working. For 10 thousand kilometers I only drive a Ferrari F 40, I love that this car wants to kill me at any moment, it is wild, unpredictable and can do its best, a real supercar. I'm waiting for the TDU remaster, I don't understand why the publishers and producers do not see the potential of this game, a game that is ahead of its time ... Cheers to all tdu freaks!
It's weird how nobody talks all the time about first TDU. It's brilliant concept almost perfectly done. Still my favorite nonsim racing game. All I want it's just TDU with newer graphics and car list to spend in it another 100h. :)

Comparing FH4 to TDU is like Comparing a Talented Bright Grandchild to his more aged up Grandfather. I still fondly remind how TDU was way ahead of times,it has flaws sure but man....it once used to be a classic. It's Nice to See FH4 takin on the mantle but i hope Test Drive makes a comeback as a next gen game.
TDU is a 2007 or 2006 game. And FH4 is a 2018 game. For a game that is more than 10 years old, TDU has done so many great things. And for me, driving in TDU is much more fun than FH4. (I played FH4 I know both). And in Forza, you don't grind to get ranks, you don't deliver cars, packages, you don't start with a low end car. TDU feels more mature to me. I feel like I'm driving a car in TDU, but not in Forza.

damn....i remember having car that had 5400km on odometer, it was my first A3 that i have used as allarounder...it was not that easy to travel long distances in fast cars. I actually play TDU 1 till today, you should try TDU Platinum. Tons of cars and stuff :)
I think he meant actual character customization like , being able to sculpt your character's face/body change his hair and stuff like that , so far in Forza we can only choose a premade character model and just change their clothes.

Ну, то есть запуская тот же Dead Space (как раз 2008ой год) из глаз не вытекают битые пиксели и не режут зрачки в кровь. Ассасины вполне себе нормально выглядят и играются даже сейчас, тот же Крайзис , Фар Край 2 (он вообще в некоторых аспектах даже наоборот поражает и визуально смотрится тоже нормально) , вообщем игры приблизительно тех лет не выглядят дико устаревшими и в них легко можно хоть прямо сейчас поиграть, хоть в ближайшие года.
@@belkaalex01 гггг хотел ещё зацепить эту тему что мол всегда есть исключения и что допустим ХЛ2 вышла ещё раньше, но даже сейчас смотрится не вырвиглазно , но поспешил и отправил так )) А вообще да, она вот тоже хоть и такая старая, а всё равно не слишком архаично выглядит и уж тем более играется. Допустим The Suffering вышла в том же году что и ХЛ2, но вот она кудаааа хуже сохранилась . Понятное дело что и сейчас в неё можно легко поиграть, но речь не об этом, а именно в плане визуала, механик, качества анимаций и всяких таких вещей. Так-то не так давно играл в River Raid с Atari 2600 и мне было нормуль, но это ж тоже всё равно не то )))
TDU had better driving soul, better gameplay. Forza is kinda a kid game, more fantastic, and less unrealistic (i am not talking about graphics). when it comes to graphics, why do we even compare a 2004 game to 2018 game? TDU is much better than Forza, NFS, and even, even Shift 2

They are actually making TDU3, but it's going to suck. Atari sold the rights to Big Ben whom are known for making crappy shovelware titles.

TDU for it's time was an absolutely brilliant game.
Forza Horizon 4 is an empty game once you finish it. TDU has such a huge map and diverse challenges you can have fun for a long time.

The physics engine for Forza Horizon games barely changed over the years. Forza Horizon was inspired by TDU games. You claim nostalgia, but I claim typical, ignorant FH fanboying. Every car in FH feels damn near the same, sounds are horrible suppressed, the map is not impressive at all, customization is a little better than TDU games, but that's just it... a little, no clothing stores, own castles and houses but can't access them, no car wash with sexy girls washing your car, crappy clothing, no character customization, events are unfun and unrealistic... ahem Lego, like who the hell wants that? No casino, no nothing. No progression, my big ass collection of cars come from the wheelspin alone, not one car earned. There's no point in playing a game that has no progression. I feel like I'm playing car slot machines than anything else in that generic ass racing game. Need For Speed is dead, The Crew is an imitation TDU, Forza Motorsport is just a less impressive version of Gran Turismo, and Forza Horizon is just generic and not unique at all, it's literally just another racing game..... and you know it.

I loved that in TDU you could change stuff like the interior color, and change between different stock wheels, not only aftermarket. And of course buying house's and walk in them or go to your garage and walk between your cars. Forza is slowly getting there in Horizon 4. Lets hope Horizon 5 is gonna be more like TDU.

This isn't a comparison, it's a cherry-pick of features that Horizon doesn't have. While I'd like a lot of these in Forza as much as anyone else, most of the dropped features were intentional omissions in favor of something else.
Because I'm incredibly annoyed, I'll counter every point except the headlights and windows.
There _is_ a paint color selector in Horizon, hit X on a regular paint color or most of the Special Colors.
Interior colors are omitted in favor of a more customizable exterior paint, though I do agree that Interior customization would be great.
Automatic headlights was probably either to make the game easier to operate or because they were out of controller buttons.
I agree that the windows should move, but in this incredibly nitpicky video you missed the convertible top operation in TDU (or was that TDU2?).
The lock-on side and rear views are meant to be practical, so that a quick flick to the back or side during racing gets you what you want.
The rear interior rendering is omitted so that the interior you _can_ see is more detailed, as the game has to be optimized to run on actual hardware.
Police aren't unanimously viewed as a "good" feature. They're my least favorite part of TDU2.
Transmission changes (stalling and neutral) are for ease-of-use. When's the last time you've actually used neutral for a good reason in a game?
Forza's speedometer is specifically made to be easy to read, as opposed to a semi-transparent version of each car's speedo. Also remember that Forza has 400+ cars.
The cars in Forza _do_ have odometers. They're inside the car, which all you detail-hungry people like me will easily find.
You literally showed the character customization screen. Even if it's not exactly what you want, it's more than most racing game players even care about.
Motorcycles are in no way a necessary addition to Forza.
Turn10 and Playground have never been my favorite developers. However, it's ridiculous to ignore the incredible improvements in graphics and driving physics (even by Forza games in the same generation as TDU) to nitpick about completely unnecessary features.
Don't call this a comparison. Something more sensationalized like "TDU Features Forza Still Can't Match" would more accurately fit the tone of the video.
Perfect comment, I highly dislike these kinds of cherry picking videos. I mean, people are allowed to have their preferences, but the argument of "GTA 4 is better than GTA V because you can throw bricks" is overdone and annoying. I recently came across a video entitled "assassin's Creed unity is better than assassin's Creed Odyssey" which is the same deal, cherry picking a few minor aspects of unity to highlight without showing any of the good things Odyssey has, despite Odyssey being an objectively better-made game

Though I never played FH4 and has TDU as childhood game, I do agree with you. It is impossible to ignore all the newer, more detailed cars, weather and time stuff, and multiplayer feature(which is shut down on TDU, very sadly)

One of the features I wish Forza had that TDU did is the option to spec your car from the lot, different options of factory interior colors, factory wheel options, and other accessories. Also controlling the top on a convertible car would be cool, driving around in a convertible with the top down during a snow storm in the middle of winter seems a little unrealistic to me.

Many friends of mine laughed because they did not understand why I bought a super computer to play TDU and not Forza, so they tried it and played it ... now they also love TDU, and we have it with TDU Platinum, the graphics are somewhat improved and there are more than 800 cars, apart from that it behaves like a real simulator despite being from 2006
Fun fact:
If you use a steering wheel whit H-Shifter in TDU you can’t use the H-Shifter for paddleshift Cars (like some Ferraris) and you cant use paddleshift for Cars whit Clutch an H-Shifter.

Definitiv TDU, I played it with the Logitech g28. The best open world driving experience for me so far.
Considering TDU is an old game, physics still lacks. Though there's a huge modding community and a ton of capablities to fix that.

Forza Horizon games really suck compared to the first TDU. For starters TDU servers could be shifted simply by selecting a different group of cars on the map, without some big server transfer. It was much closer to a real open world because of that. You could see car groups from many servers and simply pop in instantly just by fast traveling to a group you see. The car dealership experience, with different ones all over the map, was really nice.
I literally still play tdu especially with the platinum mod! It's just such a fun and feature rich game that was clearly way ahead of its time! Just completed the "Tour of the island" challenge while listening to a podcast last night to unlock the type 57 Atlantic!
Back in 2006 I would've thought graphics and gameplay had improved more by 2018

FH4 is better than TDU in many ways, but one thing I still have to give to both TDU and TDU2 is immersion.
FH series focus is to race sure is has a social platform. But TDU did that better plus Ohau was amazing to drive around and explore get lost and what not. TDU was always more of a Grand touring game which also had the right idea about life style that came with it customizing your character(s) buying houses and customizing that.
In my opinion for an open world driving/racing game I still find TDU series superior. Crew series comes close but lacks the lifestyle and social experiences as do most open world racing games do.
@@davidmckenzie6505 TDU was always more of niche game not as popular as NFS and other Racing games, so I believe commercially it didn't do as well. TDU was also way ahead of its time. FH4 only just now has some character customization and buying some houses but it's more of a novelty. While TDU did that really big in a way you could get surgery to change your face, Go shopping for clothes/houses and go to dealerships to buy cars. Which made it hugely immersive. Start or find a club to join. Socialize to challenges within the club for Club Exclusive cars.
The latter was mostly TDU 2.
Closest thing to get an MMO Driving game. which still hasn't been rivaled on equal terms.
Crew series comes close but lacks the lifestyle options and what not. Just a really cool world to drive through.
Biggest drawbacks of TDU were the Car list though impressive but somehow at the same time very lacking. Really in depth car customization all though I personally didn't mind it as much seeing i could focus on other stuff in the game. Physics were wonky at times.

I still have TDU on my PS2, 360 and PC. Going back to play it the other day, I just enjoy the environments a lot more than FH in general. Forza does have better vehicle customization than TDU.
Just one thing. In Horizon 4, the odometer on the dashboard inside the cockpit view does work, at least in the vehicles I drove.

There is a odometer in FH4, but you have to do a glitch to see it close up. Also you can check the car's history in the car selection menu to see the mileage on the car also.
So hyped about TDU3 (Which has been "announced") but I really think TDU is an unbeatable game, it is going to be so damn hard to create a game like this one, with the big map, car variety, house admin, change the character appearance. The fact of going to the dealership to buy a car, well you know. That tiny details that make the game so realistic and good. And I can continue with, The blinkers function, the window, etc. What a piece of game.
You forgot to show the turn signals on cars. I always liked to use turn signals in Test Drive Unlimited to feel like I am a real driver especially when doing Taxi missions or car delivery.

TDU was way ahead of its time. The perfect game would be TDU map and mechanics, with Forza Horizon physics and graphics and car selection, with Need For Speed customization.
I have played most racing games, tried simulation and arcade, but TDU is the best game if you want to drive a ridiculously expensive car in beautiful circumstances and have it all. Today I bought a dvd from TDU because my CD has worn out and stopped working. For 10 thousand kilometers I only drive a Ferrari F 40, I love that this car wants to kill me at any moment, it is wild, unpredictable and can do its best, a real supercar. I'm waiting for the TDU remaster, I don't understand why the publishers and producers do not see the potential of this game, a game that is ahead of its time ...

FYI Forza has a color picker as well, if you press X while selecting a material you can fine tune your hue, brightness and saturation.
Comparing FH4 to TDU is like Comparing a Talented Bright Grandchild to his more aged up Grandfather.

TDU is a 2007 or 2006 game. And FH4 is a 2018 game. For a game that is more than 10 years old, TDU has done so many great things. And for me, driving in TDU is much more fun than FH4. (I played FH4 I know both). And in Forza, you don't grind to get ranks, you don't deliver cars, packages, you don't start with a low end car. TDU feels more mature to me. I feel like I'm driving a car in TDU, but not in Forza.

Вообще , как мне кажется, игры где-то начиная с 2007+ годов уже выглядят вполне себе достойно (если брать именно ААА или около того игры) даже сейчас.
Ну, то есть запуская тот же Dead Space (как раз 2008ой год) из глаз не вытекают битые пиксели и не режут зрачки в кровь. Ассасины вполне себе нормально выглядят и играются даже сейчас, тот же Крайзис , Фар Край 2 (он вообще в некоторых аспектах даже наоборот поражает и визуально смотрится тоже нормально) , вообщем игры приблизительно тех лет не выглядят дико устаревшими и в них легко можно хоть прямо сейчас поиграть, хоть в ближайшие года.
Есть такое, а началось ещё с Half-Life 2 (2004 год) - игра и сейчас выглядит достойно..

Допустим The Suffering вышла в том же году что и ХЛ2, но вот она кудаааа хуже сохранилась . Понятное дело что и сейчас в неё можно легко поиграть, но речь не об этом, а именно в плане визуала, механик, качества анимаций и всяких таких вещей.
Так-то не так давно играл в River Raid с Atari 2600 и мне было нормуль, но это ж тоже всё равно не то )))
