This genre reminds me of the music played in Irish pubs. I'm only missing a pinte or two of Gxiness or Mxrphys. At least I already have Amber's company 😏☺

Hi, I did a video on Arkansas Traveler; a couple of different shuffles, etc. It's titled Still Alive. It cut off before I went into Turkey in the Straw that has a very similar chord progression and makes for a medely (sp) like Old Mother Flanagan and the Boys of Blue Hill. A lot of old fiddlers will stick two complimentary tunes together. Have fun.

a wee bit of lilt, since many of these tunes have deep immigrant irish, scottish, and other-ish roots - reminds you of "home", comforting in the new world and all that

The words to Arkansas Traveler are funny; even people back in the day had to deal with tourists. OK, unrequested advice from an old guy; try tuning in cross key, GDGD for the double stops and how easy it is to jump octaves. A lot of old timey and Cajun tune like that. Just keep playing it over and over improvising not so much with your left hand but your bowing. Escape from the confines up set classical bowing and mix up where you put the shuffle(s), scrapes, slides. Think that you had a few shots, you're loosened up, and dancing like a goofball. Drive that shuffle, change the timing, go wild.

To me Fiddle and Violin are two different instruments sharing the same phyical instrument . Much like the rift between classical guitar and steel string guitars , both are gutars but totally different. 😊
