  • The very first Mac Pro, introduced at WWDC 2006 by Phil Schiller.
    Thanks to the switch to the less power consuming and less heat producing Intel processors, a lot of room became available for more hardware, for example more harddrives and a second optical drive.
    With the introduction of the Mac Pro, Apple completed the transition to Intel processors it began in january 2006.

    When Apple discontinues support for devices like…the first iPad, that made sense. The iPhone 3GS IS actually more capable of running iOS 6 than the first iPad is because they both have the same amount of RAM, and most of that RAM and graphics power is going to powering that display on the iPad, iPhone 3GS has a much smaller display.
    Them including things like LaunchPad are things you don't necessarily have to use, they're just there. Personally, I like it, and find it more efficient.

    Yeh it's just like... When I first upgraded to SL I was in awe of it being streamlined and 64-bit and properly coded and without ancient univeral packages etc etc. It made sense to upgrade. Now, while ML could still be as good I guess, there's nothing making me hyped about it. It's like, I might just upgrade to not feel I'm running an old OS, other than that no real interest at all.

    • @TimurTripp2
      @TimurTripp2 8 лет назад

      +richard konsky Problem is MacOS Sierra won't just work on a 2008 Mac Pro thanks to Apple dropping support. You have to mod it to make it boot, but at least it's still a real Mac and doesn't require a boot loader like a Hackintosh.

    • @TimurTripp2
      @TimurTripp2 8 лет назад

      ***** It doesn't have Mac firmware and will require a bootloader nonetheless. I do recommend +richard konsky goes with a 2009 4,1 or 2010 5,1 at a minimum (4,1 can be easily flashed to a 5,1 and upgraded with the same components).

    I bought one of these in 2018. The OS was locked so I couldn't do anything with it, so I tore the machine apart and built an ATX system inside. If only I knew I could wipe the drive and do a fresh install from a USB drive, I would've done that instead. I regret putting a beautiful machine in its grave.

    RUclips's been very strange with notifying me with my responses.
    I guess the difference with Mountain Lion is you get certain things like iCloud and the new Messages app which syncs with iMessage.
    Also, going back to your previous point, the Mac Pro hack doesn't give you graphics acceleration, an untenable situation for OS X ML which depends so heavily on them. NVIDIA are the ones who stopped providing driver support for that old graphics card. So, this isn't Apple's fault.

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 6 лет назад +1

      That depends on your definition of "Pro". The iMac Pro is soon to be another non modular future relic like the trash can in the eyes of people like me who require multiple upgradable GPUs, and swap-able internal drives (rather than all the external drives all over the place, like in a trash can environment). I know Apple has plans for a modular Mac Pro, perhaps then we'll see something that's actually a step forward for serious power users. The iMac Pro is a great alternative for people who were already pushing the limits of a regular iMac at work, and absolutely have to have another Mac at any cost. Granted even for pros, I'm certain some will have to remortgage their home to get their hands on the "modular" machine coming.

    The price is $700, which is about what a Quadro costs. Except the Mac Pro here already has a graphics card in it worth a couple of hundred. So I would say both are about the same except you get a much better Chassis with Apple.
