Obviously the music puts you in a place your mind cannot go without it, but when the lyrics are speaking of exactly how you feel or what you’re going through....? Damn. I’m not crying, you’re crying

Happiness: That feeling when there is a new DCFC album. You start listening to it, and the more you listen, the more you love it, and all of the sudden the music gives you goosebumps and the lyrics start speaking to you.

This song speaks so much to me. My fiance and I have gone on plenty of road trips, talked the whole way with music playing in the background and just enjoyed each others company. When I proposed, I used a book that I made with pictures of all of our adventures together. On the spine of the book is my favorite line from this song, "Dream of all the places only we will find". Every time I listen to this song, I think of her and I love it. Thanks DCFC for an amazing song that warms my heart every time I hear it.

    Lyrics
I can't expect you to be honest
Or to be faithful every day 'til the end
I just need you to be always a friend
As this sun sets over Dakota's
Underneath a crimson ocean of sky
Know I'll always want you by my side
    When we drive
    When we drive
You and I were born in motion
Never in one place for too long a time
And now it's the only way we know to survive
I like the way your hair tangles
The way your sun tan's only on one side
We always keep the windows open wide
    When we drive
    When we drive
    When we drive
    When we drive
Climb into the back seat and close your eyes
    I've got the wheel
Dream of all the places only we will find
I can't expect you to be honest
Or to be faithful every day 'til the end
I just need you to be always a friend
Until the engine kicks and sputters
Until we roll the rubber off the tires
Know I'll always need you by my side
    When we drive
    When we drive
    When we drive
    When we drive
    When we drive
    When we drive

The intro just makes my chest seize. The nostalgia 🥺💔.
And then just the entire song... It's just so exactly spot on for me and my bff, we used to take road trips together before he moved away. I can only fall asleep in a car if he's the one driving. But I'd always be awake to be the guide (passenger seat for life 😉)

Cool! August this year (yes, THAT bloody awful year that doesn't warrant mention), a girl I knew when we were both 20,found me in Facebook. We had our 50th birthdays this year in July (her) and September (me).
Small steps so far, but then she knew I lost my partner to illness back in February aged only 44. It was literally a lightbulb and spark moment that we should be together.
Back in 1990, we were different people, but now, we realise we are one another's missing jigsaw pieces.
Never give up on love even if you reach our age 😉💗
I'll give you an update in 2021 when hopefully the world is a more bonded and less isolated place....

Below is my album review that was the very first on Amazon:
    Posted by Sir Hex
    A Monumental DCFC Album!
    August 17, 2018
    Verified Purchase
Absolutely beautiful! Strong beats and ethereally atmospheric melodies. The entire album has such a refreshingly rich full sound with every track being unresistably danceable, the only possible exception being their signature last song, the often low key sign off at the end of their albums, like a freshly closed envelope with a warm solidifying wax seal connecting the parchment.
I listened to it at work on headphones whilst wiring electrical panels. The other men working in the control house couldn't determine if I was listening to heavy metal or some hard hitting hip hop. That's just the way I move. (I headbang to Coldplay...)
At only two songs in, I was almost moved to tears at the rhythmic serenity, but that composure finally gave a bit on track 05. Not necessarily for any personal reason, but just at the total immersion. I'd like to listen to it a second tyme at the gym later, but I have to say I'm kind nervous I might have an inappropriate emotional release in mid rep.
From the moment a large door opens to another reality and you're greeted with the Robert Smith-esque pick solos of "I Dreamt We Spoke Again", and the chorus of "Summer Years" that seems to take you by the hand when the distortion guitar comes to haunt you, the perfectly mixed beat of "Gold Rush" that feels so uplifting thumping through the subwoofer, the pacing discussion of "Your Hurricane", the silent conversation on a tyme-stand-still road trip of "When We Drive", the rolling hills frolick through the leaves of "Autumn Love", bumping around a gentle mosh pit with virtual cascading personifications of each individual bass guitar and piano note of "Northern Lights", standing on the sidewalk watching the ghosts of others' conflictions on "You Moved Away", running with a group of close friends to reunite with a long lost friend on "Near Far", or as a deep embodiment of piano notes have you visiting the old record store you used to get those bootleg and imports from when you were a teen and recognising the same owner that saw you steal once in "60 & Punk"... This album is a tea cup ride in an abandonded carnival as the outside world spins around your own personal biosphere.
It has been my opinion for over a decade that Ben Gibbard is one of the most underrated song writers of this generation. Sure, he's in an established band and doing very well, but there is magic in his pen that I've seen bewitch more people than most. I'm mostly a musical ear, sometymes even taking me years before I ever realise what a song is actually about. Not with DCFC. Ben's writing always has my attention from the first harmonic syllable.
At the tyme I wrote this review, the album wouldn't be released until the following Friday, but was available for streaming at NPR Music's Twitter page. The band was eager to hear from their fans, and wants us all to tell them what our favourite songs are. I could have done that on Narrow Stairs. I could have done that on Codes and Keys.. and especially with Kintsugi. But not this album. Not yet. The best I can do is tell them my least favourite song on Thank You For Today, but that's something I will not do. It may present the misconception that I actually dislike something
song on that album, and that would be far from the truth.
"But I won't be the debris in your hurricane."
    -DCFC
    :epilogue::
Later that day at the gym, I did indeed listen to it two more tymes in a row. I was fine, but it did inspire me to go back into my notes and add that sentagraph leading you through the song progression. Obviously more of a psychological (or psychedelic) journey through the album rather than one translated from a literal interpretation of Ben's lyrics. If Amazon allows, I plan to add a second review with more of a straight forward, practical approach.

Hello father one knows that you are busy so one would like to leave you a message
If one may ask , friends on way to mountain to pick huckleberries and one would ask your help find , one would like to pick for you today , if would like them , one understands that you are busy with all other prayers from all of us and one will understand if one message didn't get picked to listen one will not be upset, thank you again for your time father ,
For almost four hours picked almost2 gallons of the biggest black huckleberries that ever seen they were bigger than blueberries so got back in vehicle drove home cleaned berries to go sell them about 2 hours later nobody came to buy so frustrated ready to leave and truck with old man appears and ask what we selling said huckleberries what's the price he asked said $15 or Court he says wow that sounds awful cheap one says well how about $25 old man says let me see them one pulls a quart out and shows to the old man and the old man pokes at the bag of huckleberries like if you poked nudging to somebody's belly hehehe so there is 7 quarts of these huge black huckleberries that he wants so now it's $25 at 7 $175 this old man wanted to take the Huckleberry's to his wife that he was going to surprise when he got home with them , made one feel like he was charging to much money than needed so said how about just a hundred twenty the old man pulls his wallet out opens it up and that's all he's got is a hundred and twenty ,then he takes off ,
