Please keep these extreme beginner lessons coming. I can't thank you enough for your support, encouragement and truly beginner friendly designs. You make the medium much more accessible and are helping me understand watercolor more thoroughly. I'm about to paint this lighthouse for the 4th time (I think I'm a chronic overworker), but I'm enjoying it each time and improving. Thank you again.
Thank you so much, Chris, for taking the time to do these wonderful tutorials where you patiently explain every step, as opposed to a time lapse video. Your videos are an invaluable learning tool. Your subjects are well chosen and take the mystery out of the painting process which help motivate beginners like me. So, thank you!
I love your art work i have learned so much. I have painted for 55 years and you have taught me a lot .Thanks again Chris and i save all your drawings so i can always go back❤
Chris, this is another amazing class. I don't consider these tutorials, which seem like presentations to a passive audience. Your presentations offer more than just watercolour instruction; they include things like understanding perspective, shading, composition, how to prepare your materials and different watercolour techniques. I love watching, and re-watching your videos because they are jam-packed with theory and application and beginners can actually grasp and recreate what you are doing. I know the videos seem long to some people, but that is because they offer so much rich content. Your offerings are unique and I appreciate them. Thank you for all your hard work.
Hi Michael, thanks so much for the encouragement, insightful comments and compliments! It keeps me excited about being on RUclips and I definitely know it helps our fellow artists feel confident that they can trust the process and enjoy the watercolor journey. Thanks again and I’m hoping your paintings are progressing beautifully 👍😎
@@cpetri766 I agree with @Michael Wilton. I find your videos very useful because you explain each step in great detail and I learn so much! One can tell that you have placed a lot of thought and effort into creating them and it is appreciated! Also, your book is great too! You are an inspiration!
I still enjoy the extreme series, though i can see I have advanced some-- but a reminder of basics is always good-- and you continue to get some fabulous color mixes.
I am new to this medium and this is the best explanation that I have come across. I have yet to put paint to paper, but after watching this video I’m going to put paint to paper tonight. Thank you for what you do!
Loving this video of the lighthouse Chris! I see why now my skies have been poor because I have tried to layer up different colours on top of each other, and made a n awful mess of it! Thank goodness you‘ve come to the rescue…. Thanks so much! Richard.
I love your work, your unique style, your patient teaching. Please do more advanced teaching also . I have been doing watercolor many years, but still learn from you. God bless you for all you do! Merry Christmas!
This is a great tutorial, it's really low stress and removes any anxiety you might have when you are a beginner. Chris really coaches you through and makes it incredibly fun.Tons of tips and advice to help us make a great painting.
Chris you have helped me so much. An i have painted for 55 years and you or so outstanding with explaining you Demos. I have painted every demo and they all look GREAT❤
Wow, another wonderful class Chris. I have never done any drawing and brand new at watercoloring and here again I have a great little painting of a lighthouse by the sea. You are an amazing teacher. What fun!
Chris, I not only enjoy your videos but mostly your teaching methods. Please keep up the basics lessons and the prep that comes before and during the start process. Most You Tuber's just watch how good I am and learn, it doesn't work.
Hi Chris, just found you on youtube. I enjoyed your lesson very much, subscribed so I can see whatever new lessons you share. Thanks for taking the time. 😊
Hi Chris. I was shocked to see what you were using and painting with. I must say you did make it look so easy for a beginner. I even learned something new watching this video. Thank you.
Great tutorial Chris, thank you 😊 I am so pleased you don't do the very quick videos, they don't teach you anything 😔 You see the finished painting and think it looks great, but you don't have much chance of trying it for yourself. I really like to watch your videos then rewatch and paint along. Please don't change the format 🙏 🙂
Thank you so much Chris, I really enjoyed this, as a beginner I am slightly nervous, but this tutorial has really inspired me, and gave me confidence .
I am a big fan of your artwork I didn’t know your paintings. It was pretty fun. I’ve been doing watercolor for three years. I have a rare condition 22Q drawings is one of my favorite things to do all I would love you to do a painting for me when you have a chance
No please don't speed up your process...one doesn't learn and even moves on with our watching the complete tutorial... your process is the best format.. thank you for what you do... learning a lot by following you!!!
I love light houses, looks great and original. What I am noticing about water color is there are water color painters and there are pencil artists who fill in their pencil drawings with water color. In some ways this had me confused. Both are fine, but I prefer to just paint as I am tired of using a pencil, did it for many many years.
I am an intermediate artist and have been that for far too long. I can't seem to get to the step of calling myself an accomplished artist. However, your videos are very helpful and maybe if I keep following what it is that you do so successfully, maybe I will get to that next level of painting. What I love about this painting is the sky and I want to try to duplicate that in my work.
Really, such good instruction; thanks. Over that smudge, I see a distant headland shrouded in a light blue distance-haze / no worries. How did you throw that paint spatter like a madman and not get any up into the reserved whites above?
Hi Louis, I’m using Arteza watercolor paper on this painting. I have a wood 2x4 under my Masonite board at the very top…..that gives me a about a 12% angle. 👍😎
Mr. Chris, I’m am brand new. Do you always do a light sketch before doing the actual painting? This may sound like a stupid question, but like I said, I’m brand new to this. Thank you.

How did you throw that paint spatter like a madman and not get any up into the reserved whites above?
Thanks! Practice and a bit of luck 🍀 👍😎
What paper do you use and do you paint flat or at an angle? Your videos started me on this journey of watercolor painting.
Hi Louis, I’m using Arteza watercolor paper on this painting. I have a wood 2x4 under my Masonite board at the very top…..that gives me a about a 12% angle. 👍😎
I'm curious about the pencil marks defining the lighthouse. That's acceptable?
He addressed that in the video
Mr. Chris, I’m am brand new. Do you always do a light sketch before doing the actual painting? This may sound like a stupid question, but like I said, I’m brand new to this. Thank you.
Hi Rhonda, yes… I always do a sketch first 👍😎
Do you have social media where we can tag you after we are finished with a tutorial so you can see your "students'" work?
Great question! Not at this time Kristin, I’m so busy with RUclips I can’t find enough time to create any more social media sites. 👍😎✅
Is this a real lighthouse or just one from your imagination?
Let check on that, I have many lighthouses book. 👍
