The series music was done by both Keith Strachan and his son Matthew. Bizarrely, the 2007 remix is still used internationally. The U.S version used different music and the original UK version restored the classic music when Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson took over on WWTBAM's 20th Anniversary series in 2018. Atleast Sony seem to still care about the series in it's own right for being a British-based international show.
This song is called “Is That Your Final Answer - Radio Edit” and there is a club mix. I actually don’t think Strachan is responsible for the song in this particular video. The single that it was released from is credited to Amoure which is a different British composer named Nick Magnus

I've read the interview with the composer Matthew Strachan. He said that that the studio brought him and his dad Keith to help with the WWTAM pilot that was such a disaster, that the producers knew that they need to scrap everything and redo the whole thing from the scratch. The pilot was made by old standards like your 80s game shows and they were in need of a kick ass soundtrack and boy oh boy the father-son duo delivered just that.
I hope dad and dearly-departed son had a good royalty agreement on that. This music was used across the world, on tv and theme park rides and video games and was sampled in Squid Game and used in-universe for Slumdog Millionaire and Quiz
Come to think of it, without the overall presentation, WWTAM would be just a trivia multiple-choice game show with a particularly big grand prize at the time. They have to put the emphasis on participating in the game being a life-changing event. Sit on that chair, and you'll never be the same again. And the music probably single-handedly makes it all work.
This theme is classic! Grew up to it! I actually played this on my way to work today because this sounded like a track to listen to on when you're trying to beat the time on something and to see if I can make it there before this song was over. Work was 8 minutes away, so i played this 2x and i just made it at the 7 min mark with 5 seconds to spare.
And you know what the best part is there is a PlayStation 1 Who Wants to be a Millionaire game so you can listen to both awesome themes whenever you want

For example if you play who wants to be a millionaire in the UK, you’d walk away with $1.3m. But, if you played in the USA, you’d win around $700k which is £536k. So, unbelievably, if you played who wants to be a millionaire as a Brit in the USA, you’d end up with HALF the money. But if you are an American playing in Britain, you would end up with an extra $600k. Crazy

It's gonna feel weird for me to say this, but I really miss older gameshows like this that had an epic, intimidating and oppressive atmosphere. It's a standard quiz show, but the music makes it feel like the contestants were at the mercy of an evil mastermind where one wrong answer could lead to eternal damnation.
@@DeadlyV1RU5 I never thought TWL had any tension because I always found it BS no matter how many episodes it has. Every time, people vote out strong links as competition and barely make any money. Only the winner wins anything so it paid out far less per episode than TWL. It's understandable as a BBC license fee show but then it seems like fake stakes. And in the US I just felt like it was a stingy attempt to topple WWTBAM without paying out as much. (In retrospect US WWTBAM almost feels socialist with how much money they were giving out at one point. The questions were so easy and they did so many episodes they were giving out millions a week. It feels like a different US watching it now, like it is the epitome "pre-9/11" show in its US incarnation) TWL just felt like a lot of bluster to me. Same with the Chase and its Chasers.

Fun fact: This soundtrack was made on the same kind of synthesizer (the Roland JV1080) that Goldeneye 64's soundtrack was made on, and a few of the same presets were used. Once you hear em, you can't unhear em.

They are Keith and Matthew Strachan, dad and his son. They also composed for other things, like Question Time and Winning Lines for the BBC, and Britain's Brainiest Kid and The People Versus, for ITV.
They got put in a very prestigious musician hall of fame due to this theme (not even joking), and got millions of pounds from the theme being reused in different versions of the show, so they already got a lot from this

Millionaire just hit different. That gritty tense atmosphere can’t be matched by anything. The only thing that comes close is the Weakest Link.

Excuse me but.... whoever composed this, why is he/she not composing something for other media?!
I mean, if this their best effort to make a game show theme, imagine to something bigger.
They are Keith and Matthew Strachan, dad and his son. They also composed for other things, like Question Time and Winning Lines for the BBC, and Britain's Brainiest Kid and The People Versus, for ITV.

They got put in a very prestigious musician hall of fame due to this theme (not even joking), and got millions of pounds from the theme being reused in different versions of the show, so they already got a lot from this

I’ve always enjoyed the music to this fantastic game show. My favorite is the suspense music while giving the answers.

Unfortunately, Matthew Strachan, the composer of this masterpiece has passed away at the age of 50 at his own home.
This show brought me back into game shows. Still watched all the old ones but new ones I never cared for until this came out. Years later, I want to be on this show still! Lol.
