    After taking the NBA by storm on his retribution tour, Doctor Julius Erving, Mo Cheeks, Moses Malone, Dawkins and the rest, sought out to defend their NBA title in the 1983-84 season. As was customary, the Sixers started the 84 NBA Playoffs with their sites on defeating the rival Boston Celtics and advancing to defend their throne against west coast rival LA Lakers. But as the basketball gods would have it, the Doctor never got to defend that crown as the lowly New Jersey Nets got in their way and upset them in the first round.

    It’s funny because Dr. J used to play for the Nets in the ABA and is arguably the best player the Nets ever had.

      Arguably? He is the best player the nets ever had. Also, he was the best player the aba had!

      Arguably. Tell me you’re gonna say Jason Kidd is better? That’s not even close

      Yes he was very rare to see road team win all three games on the road

    Sixers didn't have answer for sugar
    And Moses Malone wasn't as dominant in 84 playoffs as he was the previous season

      Moses was hurting, but Dawkins played for once. Buck was great too!

    No way in hell should the defending champion Sixers been upset by the Nets. Losing all 3 games at home. Still the biggest and most embarrassing moments in franchise history. Doc talked real big and bad about the Nets mailing in the score just to score a whopping 12 points along with 7 turnovers. Moses played bad that game as well although he was obviously hurting from that knee injury

    This and the Bucks sweeping the Sixers in 83 minutes were the biggest upsets!

      Larry Bird sat out game 2 with a the flu, good for the Bucks.

      @NBAHistoryCLNS  Год назад +1

      Bird did have the flu but that wasn’t the issue in 83. The issue was, Bill Fitch lost his locker room.
