If you do the water cooled Vega I would strongly recommend flashing the liquid cooled bios at least. Vega 64 runs into power limits at stock voltages and clocks (which is why undervolting gets you big performance gains). You can also mess with powerplay tables to increase the power limit to where you will need to be. Hbm clocks are very temperature dependent so the rad out of the window will help a lot there and performance scales very well with hbm overclocks. Maybe show an undervolt/overclock on the stock blower and show the results. I gained nearly 18% more performance on my blower card while using 50 watts less power than stock.

You had me all happy when I seen the prices in the video I was like omg hitting the $322 mark nice. SO I go to the website and get to the video cards page and the prices were like $479 & up. Then I realized you were on the USA website so I go there and yep $322 for a Vega 56. Still $479CAD for a Vega 56 card and $549CAD for a Vega 64 is not to shabby either. If I was going to get a Vega I would probably hop on the Power Color Red Dragon Vega 56 @$479CAD and then clock the heck out of it to get it to Vega 64 stock or a bit better than V64 stock performance. I hear the Vega 56 really jumps up performance wise with a healthy memory over clock.

In the video It's running anywhere from 1150mhz to 1450mhz depending on the game so it has a lot of room left in the tank. With some undervolting & overclocking you should be able to get it to sit at around 1600mhz.

I've been running Asus RoG RX 580 (8GB each, in Crossfire Pair) for 3 months. I hartily endorse the configuration, it's proven, more than capable. Far better than my last HOME build, on a LGA2011v3, with SLI'd MSI GTX 980 ti's. Both builds were/are Core i7's. the LGA2011v3 was X chip, the current is the 8086K. So it's likely they're both pretty decently bin'd CPU's. Although the architecture is considerably different, RAM pretty much the same, I did switch to Corsair Pro series memory modules. Still DDR4, 3200 in place of 2400, nominal advantage.
In any event, the Firestrike, PCMark & CB scores do exceed GTX 1080 ti range for single card scores. Although I do a decent number of customer builds the last Dual Card was another MSI 980 (non-ti) from the beginning of last year! So, I'm hoping to prove a point to someone, although, it's MOST likely, I'm the ONLY one that isn't "Green-Eye'd" with NV~dia... ;} Thanks you MAD-MAN for your advice, there maybe a Vega X in my home builds future.

2060’s looks decent at first glance undoubtedly but if you dig lil deeper you’ll find the biggest NO NO for that card which is priced at 350 usd is, it only has 6 GB memory what that mean is, in long term it’s a poor investment because how gaming industry is slowly pushing 8 GB VRAM for High/Ultra now that same requirement down 8-15 months in future on similar resolution likely be for High/Medium settings meaning if you try to play games on 2060 at that time in future there’s maximum chance it will start to bottleneck or have stuttering issues due to limited resources available to meet those settings.

Vega 64 is 2070 performance, especially after undervolting. Might be close to a 2080 with that waterblock.

    •  5 лет назад

@@exe16 Seem like Vega64 is indeed faster than the RTX 2060:
      ruclips.net/video/Pa8AmB4wmAQ/видео.html
And indeed so is the RTX 2070. But the RTX 2070 is just a tiny bit faster, sure it doesn't cost much more either so it's not like there's no reason to buy it, I guess one reason to buy it could be if one want the higher VRAM amount, like comparing 2060 and 2070 to 1060 3 GB and 1060 6 GB for the previous generation. They are very similar.
I won't really bother all that much with which of the models since they are pretty much the same. Also I don't know if the prices are even the same. I'll check cheapest Swedish prices:
      3949 SEK RTX 2060
      3990 SEK Vega 56
      4890 SEK Vega 64
      5666 SEK RTX 2070
So the RTX 2060 and the Vega 56 cost the same and of course the Vega 56 will be somewhat slower than the Vega 64 so likely very similar gaming performance for old titles but then the RTX 2060 also do support the ray-tracing, DLSS regardless of whatever you think about it, even Ansel and GameWorks if you care, I assume it pull less power, by now both support Adaptive-Sync. So why except because you want to financially support AMD would you buy the Vega 56 for games? For productivity / computing / mining purposes maybe it serves one but for any gamer the price isn't good as the product is a slightly worse product than the RTX 2060.
Clearly one could get a Vega 64 for 13% lower price than the 2070. Seem here like the Vega64 may on average outperform the RTX 2070 (selective choice of titles or just how it is?) ruclips.net/video/RzOuIbIIsQE/видео.html So I guess the Vega64 isn't completely without merits at that price point, a bit faster at old/current games and slightly cheaper, then again the RTX 2070 likely pull less power, make less noise, support ray tracing, DLSS, gameworks, ansel, shield, g-sync if that is of any interest.
So, I guess I should rephrase that into buying the Vega 56 instead of the RTX 2060 making no sense for gamers who care about their own rather than AMDs performance and not really say anything about the Vega 64 but if I were to do so compare it to the RTX 2070 instead and ask people to think about whatever it would be worth it to pay a bit more for the RTX 2070 and get a card which support more features.

Agreed, I grabbed an ASUS Strix Vega 56 a few months ago for $500 AUD...which is about $350 USD used but for something that has 1070TI performance for $200 AUD less is a no brainer.

True enough, got two Vega 64’s XFX special edition’s from OCN 3 days ago for 300$ a pop. Plus, you can mod software and the board so easy it’s practically free money.
Side note, idk why you are rough on Vega 7, give them a month and I’m sure you’ll see bios seal it’s value.

Nice vid. Yea that's why I always look for open box deals or used last resort. Open box basically new but with used prices.

i got a Vega 64 Liquid Edition at launch for a really good price, love the card, i get really good fps at 1440p and that's just what i wanted.

Bought a 980ti used for 220$. It plays pretty much everything easily at 1440p or even 4k when overclocked. The Performance of the Card is still somewhere in between Vega 56 and 64 but apart from the 6GB of VRam the Card is just great for the price. Btw. Even all the VR titles i own that are Graphically intense run at over 90fps on highest settings.

Clocks seem really low on that card, I know its a blower cooler but still. You would probably see better performance if you undervolted it a bit. So it doesn't get as hot and throttle. Also I've heard that Riva Tuner on the Vega cards actually has a performance impact, not sure if its true but you can test it if you want. Anyway, good video as always!

I got my Vega 56 for $700 CND back then. It still holds up today. I might want to pick up another one to crossfire them. Ive seen performance for crossfire Vega 56 to be comparable to RTX 2070.

I managed to pick up a vega 64 for my htpc on Ebay a month back for $295, amazing value at that price, with an undervolt it's over 25k in firestrike which is on par with a 2070. Also, it looks like you were using stock clocks in the video, but even just toggling it to turbo mode in the wattman software in the driver can give you around 3-5% and it improves lows.

I got mine last Christmas and It 4k games great. But you're right it struggles with some games to hit a locked 60fps. But with more tweaking uv/oc and game customization you can get there. Radeon 7 will give you 15-27% improvement over what you are getting now. So a locked 4k\60 is where it's at. But I may wc mine if not VII, because I gotta get me one. It is going to be the fastest gpu AMD will have this year. Navi is for the mid-range and won't be a 4k\60 kinda card.

I've been looking to build a PC this year and I know I'm getting the Ryzen 3600 but I've been undecided on a video card, was looking at a 1660Ti maybe, but yesterday I find an online retailer selling new Sapphire Vega 56 for less than I can get a 1660Ti for and with a Vega 56 you can get more like RTX2060 performance.
It's looking like a no brainer right now, that's a crazy good deal!

It's also a very good time to buy used 1060s, I recently bought a 6g 1060 for $150 and it has been performing flawlessly ever since

Got a new vega 56 for $300 and it performs a lot better in vr benchmarks compared to my now replaced r9 290 tri-x. (119 fps for r9 vs 181 for vega in orange room vr benchmark at stock settings for each).

It's going to be stupid cold next week so that'll be the perfect time to use your radiator water cooler set up again.
I'm looking to upgrade my Asus gl702zc to a Acer predator Helios 500 which has the Vega 56, cuz I'd like to be able to play Assassin's Creed Odyssey nearly maxed out at 1440p freesync ultra-wide. The RX 580 on the Asus doesn't really step up to the challenge.
Windows updates causing computers to ramp up since 1980- something.
and that's my thing too, with adaptive sync, I'm more than happy to play between 45 and 75 frames a second oh, if I could crank out the graphics to the highest possible. I like enjoying open world games and being able to just stop and look at the scenery kind of like what you can do in Odyssey.

If it hasn't already been done; the R9 Fury series are worth a look as well. Got an r9 Fury for less than $200 USD and there isn't much I can't run @ 1080p max settings; even with it being used in a GPU enclosure.

once you put the water block on it make sure to max out the power limit and under volt the card to 1.15 volts you should be able to easily hit 1.6ghz

Great video! Is this running at stock settings or did you undervolt and overclock? You can get some great gains by undervolting and overclocking.

If I can't afford the vega 64, should I settle for the 56? I'm upgrading from a GTX 650 Ti 2Gb, and I'm mostly looking at AMD cards due to the game bundle. It's either an MSI Vega 56 Air boost (+DMC5, REEEE2, and Div2,) or the GTX 1660 Ti. If you guys have recommendations between the two let me know.

    • @theslav7165
      @theslav7165 5 лет назад +1

Go for the vega. The GTX 1660ti is decent but doesnt beat the value and performance of the vega 56. As long as you keep cool enough it should serve you very well.
