I bought a fancy calendar book and write everything I eat on it. When I check my blood sugar next morning I can look and see what I had, if there was a difference. It seems that it just takes a while to get your numbers down even though I’m eating well. I have noticed to eat a larger meal earlier and try to walk more. Just keep going, takes time. My dad lost a leg due to a stupid receptionist making him wait for an appointment. We kept telling him to go in. One thing I learned from a friend, her mother in law was getting her leg amputated in 3 days. They kept rubbing zinc cream all over the leg, when she went in for the operation the doctor said whatever you’re doing keep it up. Operation cancelled. Get it at Target, any brand, got their brand under $6, baby diaper rash 40% zinc. I had a tiny sore, started getting bigger after a week. Put zinc on at night, in morning half gone. Also if I feel like my toes are starting to get sore, put cream on, heals right up.

One month ago, I had an a1c of 6.1. One year ago it was 5.7. Dr. told me I was pre-diabetic over the phone and said to exercise and follow the Diabetes Association diet guidelines.
I was TERRIFIED. My mom is diabetic and had quadruple bypass open heart surgery a few years ago. She's slowly losing her eye sight, her toes are starting to turn black and she can no longer drive because she has lost feeling in her feet. She's 74,I'm 54.
All I can say is Thanks Be to God for the internet, you and others here on RUclips who have taken the time and the effort to educate me on how to beat this monster!! Its only been a few weeks but I've already seen my morning fasting number go from 116 down to the high 90's low 100's. I'll have another a1c done in 3 months and I have all the confidence in the world that I will have beaten diabetus by Christmas :) THANK YOU!

Fast forward to August 31st, after the word of the Lord came to me and told me that ,"diabetes just broke," on a Saturday August 6th!! He also told me to go and get a blood test done at the end of August. So I did on August 31st. Got my results back and it came back 5.6, non diabetic in the notes!!! Praise the Lord!!! I am further motivated to bring this down further into the 4's but I thank God for His faithfulness to His word to heal me and for sending me to you Brother Dennis!! I am glad to hear the other viewer had a positive experience with their doctor. In order to get the blood work for the challenge I had to have a follow up appointment with the dietician and I was told all about healthy grains and cutting back on meat. The proof the dietician was not even paying attention to herself came at the end when she refered to me as Mr. (first name). On the way home I went treasure hunting at a thrift store and I saw a book by an author Dennis recomended, Gary Taubes. So $1.99 (less 10% Grumpy Old Guy Discount) later I got far more useful advice. Taubes says governments have known carbs are the problem almost as long as they have known smoking is a problem but we still get the low fat advice.

    Thanks for this!
When I first found out I was diabetic, type 2, I remember going to breakfast with another type 2 friend. My first tests showed the highest number ever of 224 after pasta. That immediately showed me to avoid pasta. My friend calmly sat there that morning testing her sugar before she ate and came up with the number 360😳 I expected her to drop dead in front of me! But I was even more horrified to see her order eggs, toast, home fries AND pancakes with a cup of coffee using milk and sugar. She ate all of it and miraculously did not die in front of me. Laughed at me for ordering a spinach feta cheese omelette, no toast or potatoes and just coffee with half and half. She struggles with major obesity and diabetic side effects and can hardly walk. My A1C has constantly stayed in the 5.5 range. I have lost 110 lbs and feel better and more energetic than I ever have felt. I am 64. My Dr tells me I am a controlled diabetic and is very proud of me, so are my family & friends. Part of the reason to work so hard on this, and I do enjoy my low carb meals and half and half mixed with unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my coffee with a bit of erythritol for sweetening, is to never put my family through the fear and heartbreak that diabetic complications would cause to me if I allowed that. I watched a mother and a brother have many of them and it was heartbreaking. So, if you don’t do it for yourself, please think of your loved ones!

Thank you for this information. I started a low carb diet Nov,1,23. I resisted it for a long time but I finally took the challenge. I’m gluten intolerant so getting rid of bread and grains wasn’t difficult. My numbers were high but I have noticed them slowly coming down especially during the day. They aren’t as low as I want but I’m seeing progress and I know with insulin resistance it’s going to take a long time. Not only do I want to succeed but I also want to be able to show my doctor I can do this without drugs no matter how long this takes. I didn’t get this way over night so I know change will take time. I’m looking forward to lower numbers as you have shown it’s attainable.

Lowered my A1c from 7.6 on June 1, 2023 this year to 6.7 on September 1 following your teachings along with watching the RUclips channels of Jason Fung and Ken Berry. I’m enrolled in the Challenge and hope by December I’ll be in the non diabetic range. One side note, Medicare will only pay for 1 testing strip per day, but I’m gladly paying for the strips on my own. I was going to be paying a lot of money for the additional medication my doctor wanted me to start last June. She fully supported my decision to try to get better control through changing how I eat. I’m down from 5 diabetic pills a day to 2 metformin. I think I’ll be able to stop taking my acid reflux medication soon, which has been a wonderful side benefit along with the joy of losing 20 pounds.

Interesting that Medicare only pays for one strip per day for you. My doctor prescribes 12 refills on a prescription for 100 test strips and Medicare and my supplemental plan cover the cost of all the refills. Maybe it is your doctor who does not know that they will pay for more if he prescribes more refills. My silly doctor told me that I only need to test in the morning and that I don't need to bother with more. He also told me that I can allow my blood sugar after a meal to go to 200. I was mortified!

This was several years ago and when I was trying to refill for more strips, I received a form from Medicare where I had to record my morning fasting glucose for 30 days and bring it to the doctor’s office. I’m on original Medicare (not an Advantage plan). My doctor was wanting me to test twice a day, but Medicare said no to more strips.

This video reflects what I have done since being diagnosed with prediabetes one month ago, I bought a cheap glucose reader from Amazon, and decided to monitor everything I ate, wrote the results on paper, and what I had eaten, then from that list I wrote another list for the foods (meals) that didn't cause my blood sugar to go high , so I can easily refer to the 'Good Food List' which gives me the freedom to choose what to eat without worrying, like I said I've only been doing it for less than a month, so early days, but I have lost 12 lbs in three weeks, but as a rule avoid anything white, including foods made from white flour, white rice, sugary drinks, white bread, no added sugars at all, I also increased my fruit intake, but not the high sugar fruits such as pineapple, mango, grapes, but another tip is to increase your fibre intake which helps prevent sugar spikes, so I always look at the Carbs verses Fibre content, as I rule I try to have a carb to fibre ratio of 5-1 or there abouts if possible, another thing I do is, if eating potato with a meal I make sure I have green veg to counter the potatoes, my test showed a reading of 106..... 2.5 hours after consumption, but I am still learning all the time, and will make changes as I go along, but my overall strategy is the same as yourself Dennis, so thank you confirming my own approach has almost mirrored yours ! (first time viewer)

    • @Colin623
      @Colin623 Год назад

@@vickielster3928 Yes of course no problem, I must point out the 5-1 ratio is a target, so the closer I can get to that the better, can't a;ways do that, but i tell myself anything 10-1 or less is ok !
Weetabix for example has the following.... (Per 100g serving) 69g Carbs, and 10g of Fibre, so that makes a ratio of 6.9 - 1 which is pretty close to my target of 5-1, another is Zenb spaghetti...as follows.....(per 100g serving) 51g Carbs, and 12g of fibre, so that makes a ratio of 4.25 - 1 which is lower than my target ! I've just found wholewheat Noodles, not had them as yet, but the read out is as follows.... 65g Carbs and 7.7g of Fibre, which makes a ratio of 8.4 - 1 but still within my 10-1 limit ! Hope that helps, Just to say I divide the Carb number by the Fibre content, hence avoiding anything white as the fibre content is practically zero with very high Carbs !

Hi Dennis. Something that I found out is that some foods might trigger higher than expected glucose on different people. For instance, I thought cucumbers were such a low carb vegetable but it makes my morning glucose raise to above 100. Another is the HFCS where a very miniscule amount would also trigger a glucose above 100 the next morning. So the safest is to always suspect everything you eat until your meter approves it.

Stop worrying about the spikes 90 percent of what we eat spike our blood sugar. That's what the body does it's not stupid, it's smarter than any doctor. The doctor gave meds, it's just a bandaid it doesn't cure the problem, if it did we wouldn't have to be on the meds for a lifetime. Eat in moderation.

I often meet people in groceries stores who look puzzled as they read ingredients on items, and I often will speak to them, and mention that I'm diabetic. I often get " Me. too " as a response. I always ask how often they test their blood. Last night a woman said three times a week. I shook my head, and she said, " Is that too often ?" So, I gave her a quick lesson on how to use her meter to find the right foods for her to eat, and we discussed carbs, and grains. She looked brighter, though still a bit bemused by our short conversation, so I hope I helped her some. She doesn't own a computer so I couldn't direct her to your channel.

I am in a difficult situation. I am totally blind and in Australia the continious metres are not funded unless you are on insulin. I am newly diagnosed with diabeties. I have only learned now how to do the finger prick but I don’t always get it right, as it is hard to tell if the blood sample is right. My machine will talk and tell me my reading, but the is no easy way to get the blood on that tiny strip. The other issue is that I rely on touch for everything. so if I checked my glucose 3 times a day that could potentially mean that I am pricking my finger 6 times or more. This possibly could dammage the sensativity. So I am limitted in how many times I can check my sugar. My a1c is coming down though, so praise God, I must be doing something right.

I found Orowheat Keto seeded bread at Walmart. It does not spike my blood sugar - and it tastes like regular bread. They sell seeded and non-seeded, but the seeded version tastes better in my opinion. I posted about this because every other keto bread I’ve tried either had a funny taste or it really spiked my blood sugar. This seems to have hit the target for taste and sugar control. It is $5.99 a loaf - but it’s worth it to me to be able to eat bread again.

I appreciate hearing what is being said and proclaimed here on this YT channel, and someday hope to see my glucose levels descend to healthy levels, however after all the progress I've realized in putting myself on the road to REVERSAL, my baseline avg glucose levels are still around 185. With the Dawn Phenomenon greeting me each morning with those ridiculous spikes, I have to fight all day long (using Insulin) to bring my levels down to 145, as that is where they bottom out and then start to rise again in the late afternoon and early evening. It's EXASPERATING. I've been on a LCHF eating lifestyle for several years now after I saw a baseline avg of around 260. I get 30 mins of exercise in everyday, and I use some time-restrictive eating as well. Low or HYPOglycemic episodes I could count on one hand in over 15 years of being a T2Diabetic. Seems like a problem I'd like to have.

Thought I was a little overboard with my CGM, Libre Sensor monitoring - yes keeping my trap shut and measuring on almost every opporrunity. The phone app is a big game changer.
Measuring - @ waking up, b4 meals & every half-hourly after for 2 to 3 hrs and before bed.
Before that, I tried other options and never need any monitoring:
    1. Retinopathy, 2. Neuropathy, 3. Proteinuria, 4. Heart-by-pass... and annoyances like: loss of balance, ringing in the ears, ... all b/c of how mis-led our medical system is. Knowning it's possible to reverse diabetes and tested that Intermittent Fasting works. I am keeping my reading most day btw 4.5 - 6.5 and up to 7 or sometimes 8 w/o medication. Yes, it has to do with restricting Carb intake.
Start by reducing amt of carb every meal. After tt, slowly reduce the number of meals from 3 to 2 to your goal. Take you time but don't give up.
    HTH.

2 pizza with small cake went into 230, nacho’s in 200’s
Enough experimenting for me. Funny thing my husband had the pizza cake meal, and his blood sugar only rose to 115( non diabetic)

I never reached full diabetes but ate unhealthy carbs and processed sugars so it was only a matter of time. I ran into some big time keto masters on youtube such as Eckberg which I believed and took on low carbs, low sugar, and intermittent fasting of 14-20 hours. In just under a year i went from wearing 38 inch jeans to 30 inches, completely stopped snoring and able to sleep uninterrupted, and able to get over colds in one to two days as opposed to a week or so like i used to. Had a physical done a couple weeks ago and blood pressure was 110 over 71.
Best thing is I am never hungry or low on energy. Once your body is fat adapted, meaning no reliance on carbs and sugar for energy you lose all your cravings to eat every few hours. I have gone over 60 hours without feeling any weakness or side affects. It is life changing and not some diet that you are waiting to get off of and back to normal.

I went from a non-fasting A1C of 8.6 down to a non-fasting A1C of 6.2 in five months by lowering carbs, cutting out processed foods, and IF with no meds. Why non-fasting A1C? I think the doctors wanted to get a higher number to get me to take meds. I had to stop the IF for a while because I was starting to get a little dizzy when I woke up in the morning. I appreciate the encouragement from this channel and note that the recommendations are in line with other RUclips channels I trust. I make a longevity chili that contains, among other things, mushrooms, celery, parsley flakes, broccoli, bone broth, olive oil, and meat cooked in avocado oil. I add enough spices to the chili to restore the myrosinase to the broccoli. I also add some MCT oil to coffee or tea once per day. Plus, a cup or two of hot cocoa per day in milk and a milk thistle supplement to help in case of lead on the cocoa.

You found the ideal place to begin! Dennis has selected several videos for the newly diagnosed to get oriented and starting to shift your way of eating. I was prediabetic at 5.7 and I immediately got a glucose meter like Dennis suggests. Freestyle Lite. That’s the only way you can learn how YOUR body reacts to specific foods, intermittent fasting, etc. Also, seeing your numbers go down when you stick to low carb (go up when you screw up, which we all do) is powerful motivation.
We are a great RUclips community, full of subscribers ready to support you!
You absolutely can beat diabetes one meal, one day at a time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Be patient with yourself, and persistent. Go binge watch Dennis’s many testimonial videos. They’re amazing!

First, I want to thank you for your ministry for the Lord! So appreciate you! I was told I'm prediabetic since 2016. Now 63. My A1c hovers between 5.8 and 6.0. Trying to learn how my body reacts to sugar and carbs so I bought a glucose monitor. But wanting to fine tune the ups and downs of my gloucose level and asked my doctor if I could have a CGM-Continuous Glucose Monitor. Unfortunately, I was denied because I'm not a diabetic yet. It's too bad I have to become a full on diabetic before I could get a CGM. I would think the medical professionals would want to encourage preventitive medicine rather than reactive medicine. So wish I could get a CGM, but they are too expensive without insurance help.

I have not had an A1C done in about a year, so guess I need to make a followup soon or maybe try Dennis' EGA/A1C daily avg method, since my MIKE is showing some elevated #'s lately. I wish you the best in your health journey.

I found your channel and I keep coming back to it when I find myself straying from my diet. I finally got my Doctor to prescribe me a glucose monitor. I have used it and now I know how to pinpoint which foods will make my blood sugar rise! I am now 63 years old and I am taking this seriously! And what you say is true and it works for me when I started using the glucose meter. Sometimes when I am attending a social event, I would taste one bite of cake or sweetened dessert and I immediately test my blood glucose after reaching home and for sure my sugar reading rises , so I really know now that even a small bite or sip of anything sweet or starchy makes me blood sugar fluctuate! Thank you so much for your videos that you posted when you tested your sugar after each meal. I can review those videos but after 3 months of testing the same food on myself, I proved that your videos were correct. Thank you! I eat fresh green salads, eggs, meats, fish or sardines, a few fruit and berries in moderation and seeds and nuts and some cheese during the week. I keep it simple for now until I reach my ideal weight. I do not experience hunger pangs although I only eat twice a day now.
