It’s now august 2021, I took delivery of my 5 door (only Australian option) 1 month ago, and you’re a German guy doing a car review in English, and out of 20 odd online reviews I’ve watched, yours was clearly the most comprehensive. Well done, thanks.
Great review, but there are 2 things I want to mention: 1. You weren‘t using the launch control, but simply dropping the clutch at redline. The LC holds the RPM around 3k and then you take off. 2. Fuel consumption: Of course, high consumption is possible when the car is driven accordingly, but under normal conditions I‘d say it tops off at 8l/100km (you can also check the usual consumption comparison websites as reference, if you like)
It's a good thing Fiesta size is diminutive so 3-cyl. ( 200hp! ) still appropriate I think but in Focus ( 1.0 3-cyl is offered and same cylinder deactivation like Fiesta! ) could be a bit testing. Mature and classier looks but it's the interior that has improved a lot from previous a car. ( 15:18 ) Car sure is punchy and such a very capable/stable hot hatch. Very impressive driving there Thomas! Fun factor in that Fiesta ST is tops, probably better than Polo GTI. Really entertaining drive and review there Thomas.
ekim andersom i meant downsizing is going on for the past 10 something years I obviouslydon't have a 10 year old 1.5 eb in the garage... I went with a 2.0TSI in a different small warm hatch
Excellent review Thomas! As essentially a 2 seater sports car, the ST looks brilliant. I would struggle with those seats and want more space to carry passengers and shopping, so it was the Polo GTi for me, though the waiting list for that is ridiculously long. 42 weeks!
Lovely review, I really like this Ford Fiesta. In the beginning I really didn't know what to think of it but is has really grown on me. Love the way you review cars and vans, it is really helpfull if you want to buy a new car. Whenever someone asks me if I can help with searching for a car, I recommend this youtube site. It is long, but you know everything you need to know. Keep up the good work
Dein Englisch has improved a lot in letschter Zeit! It was quite furchtbar früher, but jetzt its really pretty nice to listen to actually! Great job /e: Love for save the bitschns
Very nice review as always but I think the numbers of fuel consumption are not very representative because this car has about 1500km full of racing!!So under normal conditions i think you can achieve easy a number of 8-9l/100km average!!!Also when you drive in comfort mode and the car works with 2 cylinders you can definitely achieve even better fuel consumption..!!!
Autogefühl Of course and I watched the whole driving but maybe didn't understand exactly what you say...For sure you said that the consumption is very very bad for 3 cylinder about 13l/100km when you drove fast and the best was 8l/100km
I’ve had mine for 2 days now, I’ve already put 300 miles on it. I came up from the mk6, so it’s a massive improvement of course. I have noticed discomfort in the lumber of my back (I’m about 5ft 7”) and after driving for 2 hours I had a slight numb feeling to my right leg. Performance is just incredible though and the interior is great. I highly recommend
The brakes are actually quite weak ... I tuned my 2017 FiST to stage 2 with a torsen differential and it really puts a grin on my face every time I push it. It's simply ... grand! You can drive the car between 7l and 15l per 100km, depending on your right foot. Apart from the Caterham that I rented for one day, this is the most fun car that I've driven. AND it's quite cheap to own one!
Ford has really stepped up it's game. Although the car is at the price of Polo GTI, it can be optioned with heated wheel, heated front window, LSD and even a Lunch Control for a manual, all of which - sadly the Polo lacks.
Excellent review. Its good to see this latest Fiesta ST is still keeping the best elements of the previous versions. Yes, shame about the fuel consumption but that is not the reason you buy this car. Just go for an eco car & thats it if you care so much about keeping the MPG low. A great place chosen to test the handling & acceleration at the same time. Cheers.
I quite like that sound. Funnily enough, it reminds me of Ferrari flat 12 engine sound. Surely, I like cabin sound more than every VW group hot hatches.
Thank you Thomas for another excellent, thorough review - You really are the best. Unfortunately the camera guy keeps getting caught out because he shoots too close, cropping out what Thomas is trying to explain. He needs to shoot slightly wider.
Don't worry about a 3 cylinder 1.5 litre engine putting out 200 hp. That is only the equivalent of a 4 cylinder 2 litre at 266 hp. Given the Sierra RS Cosworth was putting out 220 hp in 1987 then I'm sure there is plenty of power headroom .
Those Recaro seats are the killer for me. As soon as I sat in the ST my heart sank as they were uncomfortable straight away and I am not sure I could live with them. The other negative for me was the front pillars. They restrict visibility so it felt like I was sitting in the back seat. 😆 I guess that is just the mpv shape that modern superminis have. The other thing that surprised me was how big the car looked. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed by these aspects of the Fiesta as it was a car that I really wanted to like (and buy). I much prefer the Focus which is way more comfortable with a better cabin and driving position.
21:05 - consumption 10-13l, what's the point in 1.5l 3 cyl then (even 2 sometimes)? With Astra 1.6T 200, my 1 year average with driving between 100-120km/h is 9,6l, and driving gently around 90km/h, you can get to 8l. It's really hard to get it above 10l with one tank, I only made 10,3l twice, and believe me, I pushed it to the max. And that's with 4 cylinders working all the time and not using start/stop (I don't do city driving anyway). 24:18 - 8/10/12 liters, OK, so it's the same as 1.6T, still disappointing
Good review as usual...but 13litres??? Wow..i just test drove the bmw m240i with the brilliant inline 6, pushed it quite alot and scored around 10,5 litres.
I like small fast cars, but I really don’t like those daytime running lights. There’s just something about them that bothers me. But the handling looks so fun. Would love to try one out.
Meanwhile, in the States.... *sigh* I like how the B-pillar doesn't block the driver's peripheral vision and that interior looks very well laid out. The simplicity of the gauge cluster is also refreshing... love the reduction of distracting animations and graphics. Well-done, Ford. European drivers are so lucky that they get this vehicle in their market.
Let's all do our part: call or write Ford US Customer Relationship Center and tell them what their American customers want. If we all contact them, maybe they'll realize it's a profitable business decision to bring the Fiesta ST 6 spd manual transmission to the US/North American market.
That consumption seems quite high, I am getting 8.5-9l/100km from my 3.0 twin turbo. In city its around 15l. Car is also 11 years old. With winter tires I am getting 7.5l/100km.
Cannot agree to the fuel consumption, actually it’s very low for the power. I’ve had this car for 2 years now and averaging 7.3l/100km, mixed cycle and flooring it any chance I have.
Your thorough comments are challenging my negative bias against Ford. For the longest time, the only Ford I was willing to own was the Ford GT (or the historical GT40 due to Le Mans); maybe the Shelby Mustang.
Why do you need view of "B" & "C" pillar, then cant overtake you, all you need is door handle then cover the blind spot, just a thought. Great review, really liked it, try door mirror a little lower as well helps with reversing
In regards to Apple Car Play, you can simply press the voice button on the steering wheel and ask Siri where you want to go, it will then automatically go into Apple Maps and guide you on the big screen and with turn by turn voice commands, whilst playing your selected music like Spotify.. so it’s not exactly the end of the world if Fords satnav system can’t be used. And as I understand Waze should Aldo work now.
I love all your reviews Thomas, I´ve subscribed to your chanel like 3 mounths ago and I watching all your videos :), great work Thomas and all yhe Autogefuhl team
Everyone seems to be going for the magnetic grey, I kinda liked it at first but I've seen way too many of them now, the blue is really nice. Personally I went for white because I had the blue mk7 and I wanted to try a different colour. The red doesn't suit the car IMO, the black seemed too plain, so I went for the white, I think it looks beautiful! :D
Huge Dilemma.. Fiesta ST vs Polo GTI (now available with manual gearbox from 1.9.2018). I have now BMW 3 F31 auto gearbox, and want to change it to FUN car, but still practical enough to take 2 kids to school and to drive to work with it. Price is about the same, Polo like 10% cheaper, 2.0 tsi capable engine, might keep value longer, great interior with lovely display, on the other hand Fiesta with even cooler sound, maybe more raw and fun.. more unique and rare, with better sound system and true performance car.. havent driven any, no possibility, just can buy one ;-) any ideas ? thanks! ;-)
Excellent Sunday morning entertainment for me from Autogefuhl. In your driving review it sounded like the Fiesta suffered from poor insulation from wind and tyre noise, is this really the case or was your microphone a bit sensitive? I never noticed so much wind noise in your other reviews.
Wow, that's steep! I am rather disappointed with the MX5 now starting around 30.000€ in Germany - which makes me think of the Fiesta ST. The latter at above 30.000€ places it well out of the market, I think - and hope!
Very nice and comprehensive reviews . Congratulations for a job very well done . Will you review also the hyundai i30 n to give us your opinion about that car ?
Let's all do our part: call or write Ford US Customer Relationship Center and tell them what their American customers want. If we all contact them, maybe they'll realize it's a profitable business decision to bring the Fiesta ST 6 spd manual transmission to the US/North American market.
Zendar Dino None lol, have no idea what that car is, we don't get those in the US, small cars are a very rare sight here. Wish we were getting the new Fiesta and Focus but I guess we'll just stick with our crossovers :(.
Hi Thomas! I've just discovered your channel, great job! Looking forward the ST to come to Spain. 3 questions: is it be possible to order ST with th ST line seats? What about the main road LED lights performance from the ST, or you weren''t able to test them in dark? Is there will be an automatic version of the ST in the future? Thanks in advance! Cheers
Thanks for the review - one of the most in-depth that I have seen so far on this car. As a Mk7 Fiesta ST owner, the most important question that I have is how the driving experience feels compared with the Mk7 ST? I also enjoyed your comprehensive review of the BMW (F87) M2 - another car which I am interested in.
Ok, you have got me to watch the review again to see! I can't help but agree with thoughts on the engine - regarding the horsepower and three cylinders. Overall the chassis looks so much more dialled in. I am looking forward to test driving one in the next 7 days. Thanks
Autogefühl I had a pair, in 1988! They ve been absent from the uk since, they re a bit Miami Vice, but if anyone can make them cool again its you Thomas!
Let's all do our part: call or write Ford US Customer Relationship Center and tell them what their American customers want. If we all contact them, maybe they'll realize it's a profitable business decision to bring the Fiesta ST 6 spd manual transmission to the US/North American market.
Hi i really enjoyed your review and bought the st line fiesta after watching your review as well :) You drove both cars (140 ps and the 200 ps st) is there such a big performance boost difference? Because i am thinking of switching to the st. Thanks in advance
thanks! In Performance yes, that does make a noticeable difference. However if you wanna use it as everyday driving car I would stick with the ST-Line since those seats in the ST are really racetrack proof but not comfort-proof =)
@@autogefuehl I think this is least of the problem taking how tight the recaro seats are. I am rather slim (180cm and 69kg) and the seats are just too tight in lower back area on sides and therefore uncomfortable. That is the only reason i'm hesitating to get one :(
Generally seems great with the big question mark being over the engine. 8 litres per 100km if you are careful equates to around 35 mpg (UK gallons), city driving at 10 litres is 28mpg and hard driving at 12 litres is 23 mpg. That's really not that great for a small car, even allowing for the fact is a performance version. My 3 litre 6 cylinder BMW would match those figures fairly easily and it's got 340hp and will do 0-62mph (100kph) in 4.6 seconds. I appreciate it's a much more expensive car, but it puts it in perspective and backs up Thomas' theory (and mine) that down-sizing doesn't always pay off in real world driving. The cylinder deactivation in a performance car seems daft too. I do like it in 'Thomas Blue'(!) though and the video from La Sud de la France - trés belle. Great review Thomas!

did the recaro seat become more comfortable over time?
The most thorough and in-depth review I’ve seen of the ST,great job 👍
So nice of Thomas to coordinate his wardrobe to complement the vehicle for our viewing pleasure!
I just bought one of these today, with an 8 month waiting period, but it will certainly be worth it, best modern hot hatch I have ever driven.
Looks fantastic, always been a ford fan
Great review, but there are 2 things I want to mention:
1. You weren‘t using the launch control, but simply dropping the clutch at redline. The LC holds the RPM around 3k and then you take off.

Great review. Nice and long... thank you.
That was no launch control! You just red lined the car :D
You need to select it in the Settings
Glaube versetzt Berge.
This is not a 3 cylinder but a half V6
😎
But the fuel usage is the same like a V6. Or V12...
you mean its high?
Yes, really high! I've seen some reviews about it. It's almost impossible to get 10 km's on 1 liter. 7 km's a liter is regular they say.
if thats the case, then.. yea its high
You are making the best auto reviews in my opinion, very detailed, everything explained very nicely

Nice. I usually dont like Fords interior but this one looks very nice.

It’s because nobody buys small cars in the states. Everyone here buys ugly crossovers so Ford is just giving them what they want
the gauge cluster design comes from the 80s ford cars but integrated this time zone.
I'm all for simple and, more importantly, readable gauges in this age of digital gauges which may or may not adhere to good usability practices.
This Canadian is very sad to not be able to get another.

Thomas, would you pick the Fiesta ST over the Polo GTI when thinking about the complete packages both cars deliver?
ANY FEEDBACK? I do have the same question, especially now available both with Manual gearbox.. Can one have one as well fun with Polo GTI?
Can't wait for the to come to Amer- oh wait.
Let's all do our part: call or write Ford US Customer Relationship Center and tell them what their American customers want. If we all contact them, maybe they'll realize it's a profitable business decision to bring the Fiesta ST 6 spd manual transmission to the US/North American market.
hi thomas can i know betuween 2018 fiesta st and 2015 mini cooper john worke wich is good choice for small familly??thanks
For a small family i wouldnt recommend this segment
Autogefühl thanks👌👌👌
Zendar Dino If you buy the mini, you'll be overwelmed with repairs.
Puff the Magic Dragon any commant for 2019 suzuki swift sports??
Zendar Dino None lol, have no idea what that car is, we don't get those in the US, small cars are a very rare sight here. Wish we were getting the new Fiesta and Focus but I guess we'll just stick with our crossovers :(.
Where is this road you are driving?
Cheers
Thanks! Afaik u cannot change the seats. Light performance should be goody
No auto planned
Thanks for the review - one of the most in-depth that I have seen so far on this car. As a Mk7 Fiesta ST owner, the most important question that I have is how the driving experience feels compared with the Mk7 ST?
I also enjoyed your comprehensive review of the BMW (F87) M2 - another car which I am interested in.
Thanks!! I think I also left some remarks as for the comparison didn’t I
Ok, you have got me to watch the review again to see! I can't help but agree with thoughts on the engine - regarding the horsepower and three cylinders. Overall the chassis looks so much more dialled in. I am looking forward to test driving one in the next 7 days. Thanks
I Really Like this car Thomas , Your review just make me consider one
Keep us updated with that
The best pocket rocket in 2020?

Great review again Thomas, but white jeans?
Thanks! Why not?
Autogefühl
I had a pair, in 1988!
They ve been absent from the uk since, they re a bit Miami Vice, but if anyone can make them cool again its you Thomas!
Why the fiesta in the us is not like this?
Let's all do our part: call or write Ford US Customer Relationship Center and tell them what their American customers want. If we all contact them, maybe they'll realize it's a profitable business decision to bring the Fiesta ST 6 spd manual transmission to the US/North American market.
So standard ST dosen't have RECAROs?
ST-Line doesnt.
ST does.
Hi there. Nice review, like allways!😉 The consumption of the Fiesta ST is similar to the Cupra Ateca? Best Regards.
Very nice. Now please do the new Focus ST?
We ll show u the all new focus in a couple of weeks
Hi i really enjoyed your review and bought the st line fiesta after watching your review as well :)
You drove both cars (140 ps and the 200 ps st) is there such a big performance boost difference? Because i am thinking of switching to the st. Thanks in advance
thanks! In Performance yes, that does make a noticeable difference. However if you wanna use it as everyday driving car I would stick with the ST-Line since those seats in the ST are really racetrack proof but not comfort-proof =)
First a like now watching the Video!!!
Hello thomas
I love this generation because they got rid of all the buttons inside
It used to be a mess
Yeah I agree when they facelifted the last Fiesta it was already outdated lol
Hi Thomas. Waiting for A6..
we ll drive that one next week!
So one more best review one question u later we review renault clio rs trophy?
Consumption can be very good, don't press the sport or race button :)
I asked my Dealer if the alcantara seats are real leather or fake. On front seats its real leather and fake on the back.
Great thanks for the info! So unnecessary, why not completely leatherette...
@@autogefuehl I think this is least of the problem taking how tight the recaro seats are. I am rather slim (180cm and 69kg) and the seats are just too tight in lower back area on sides and therefore uncomfortable. That is the only reason i'm hesitating to get one :(
What is flugelschlagen?
Brembo break calipers? They are just Ford calipers right?
Good video very informative!
Yeah no Brembo, just stock one pots painted red.
I agree. Merci :)
