Very much. He was a supporter of the far-right Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985). A long night of 21 years, when dissent was crushed and thousands of activists were jailed, tortured and killed. Anyway, he still is an icon of soul and funky music over here, since he was not directly responsible for any of this. At the time, his own mistakes led to the left denouncing him as a 'snitch', something that was not completely true although he actually had connections with the regime. For that 'snitching' part he was recently 'rehabilitated'... It is important to know that he used to brag about those police and military connections at the time, but apparently he was more of a talker than a doer... Sad anyway, since he is a black icon and one of our best singers ever - the irony: I myself am an extremely left-leaning person and will always love his music.

Peraí, peraí. A informação tá extremamente incorreta. O Emicida diz no documentário, e ele cita o trecho que a razão pela qual ele foi levado ao DOPS foi por conta da canção. Não, tá errado! Ele não foi levado pelo DOPS, é o contrário, ele foi acusado de fazer parte, E sabe por quem? O Pasquim, principalmente. Ele desconfiou que estava sendo roubado pelo contador, e deu uma prensa nele pra que esse falasse a razão de mesmo, pelo fato dele estar fazendo tantos shows, a grana que entrava ainda ser baixa. Tudo isso vocês vão ver no documentário do Cláudio Manoel, "ninguém sabe o duro que dei". O que não fica claro, é se realmente o contador estava roubando ele ou se ele realmente gastava além da conta. Pois bem! O Simonal, chamou algumas pessoas, entre elas, um Agente do DOPS, que o Simonal não sabia fazer parte, para pressionarem esse contador. Esse agente espancou e torturou o contador que mediante a tortura assumiu o roubo, ou seja, não da pra saber se ele realmente estava causando o desfalque que era acusado. A partir daí, que veio o cancelamento dele, principalmente pelos veículos de imprensa e artistas da época, esses TODOS, que viraram as costas pro Simonal. Pq quando o contador contou a imprensa o que havia sofrido, perguntaram ao Simonal se era vdd, e ele em um ato de pura ingenuidade disse "Eu sou amigo dos homens mesmo" pq ele era marrento e não sabia a dimensão daquilo que estava dizendo. Não tem nada a ver o DOPS levar o Simonal por causa da música, isso tá errado. The DOPS, well... They're devil's, a different thing. But the ditactorship is much more a prolonged civil war than a ditactors itself.

Simonal used to brag about his connections to the regime, although they were weaker than he said. He had friends at DOPS (police torture section of the military dictatorship) - two of those shady friends (one working at DOPS) kidnapped and tortured his ex-accountant. The only thing that was not true: apparently, he was no 'snitch', although he himself bragged about being friends with the people running that horror show. Our biggest artists were in exile and students and leftists were being persecuted and killed, so it was no time for relativism - he was labeled a 'snitch' anyway. Important to know: many of the people tortured and killed by the dictatorship were important black brazilians as well, like Marighella and Osvaldão. The regime persecuted young people who went to "bailes black" (soul & funk parties, mostly afro-brazilians) and propagated the disgraceful and persistent myth of "racial democracy" over here. Also, there was racist actions against indigenous brazilians, which I cannot cite cuz' YT will block this comment. This is not a "cancel culture" problem, Simonal actually screwed up. The only "injustice" here is that part of the left exaggerated his connections to the regime, apparently he was a discrete supporter and had friends there, no proofs that he "snitched". The rest is true.

Peraí, peraí. A informação tá extremamente incorreta. O Emicida diz no documentário, e ele cita o trecho que a razão pela qual ele foi levado ao DOPS foi por conta da canção. Não, tá errado! Ele não foi levado pelo DOPS, é o contrário, ele foi acusado de fazer parte, E sabe por quem? O Pasquim, principalmente. Ele desconfiou que estava sendo roubado pelo contador, e deu uma prensa nele pra que esse falasse a razão de mesmo, pelo fato dele estar fazendo tantos shows, a grana que entrava ainda ser baixa. Tudo isso vocês vão ver no documentário do Cláudio Manoel, "ninguém sabe o duro que dei". O que não fica claro, é se realmente o contador estava roubando ele ou se ele realmente gastava além da conta. Pois bem! O Simonal, chamou algumas pessoas, entre elas, um Agente do DOPS, que o Simonal não sabia fazer parte, para pressionarem esse contador. Esse agente espancou e torturou o contador que mediante a tortura assumiu o roubo, ou seja, não da pra saber se ele realmente estava causando o desfalque que era acusado. A partir daí, que veio o cancelamento dele, principalmente pelos veículos de imprensa e artistas da época, esses TODOS, que viraram as costas pro Simonal. Pq quando o contador contou a imprensa o que havia sofrido, perguntaram ao Simonal se era vdd, e ele em um ato de pura ingenuidade disse "Eu sou amigo dos homens mesmo" pq ele era marrento e não sabia a dimensão daquilo que estava dizendo. Não tem nada a ver o DOPS levar o Simonal por causa da música, isso tá errado. Completamente equivocada essa informação

The DOPS, well... They're devil's, a different thing. But the ditactorship is much more a prolonged civil war than a ditactors itself.
@@GoonyGoogles The doc 'rehabilitating' him was financed by Globo, media conglomerate that was also a big supporter of the far-right Brazilian military dictatorship. Simonal used to brag about his connections to the regime, although they were weaker than he said. He had friends at DOPS (police torture section of the military dictatorship) - two of those shady friends (one working at DOPS) kidnapped and tortured his ex-accountant. The only thing that was not true: apparently, he was no 'snitch', although he himself bragged about being friends with the people running that horror show. Our biggest artists were in exile and students and leftists were being persecuted and killed, so it was no time for relativism - he was labeled a 'snitch' anyway.
Important to know: many of the people tortured and killed by the dictatorship were important black brazilians as well, like Marighella and Osvaldão. The regime persecuted young people who went to "bailes black" (soul & funk parties, mostly afro-brazilians) and propagated the disgraceful and persistent myth of "racial democracy" over here. Also, there was racist actions against indigenous brazilians, which I cannot cite cuz' YT will block this comment.
This is not a "cancel culture" problem, Simonal actually screwed up. The only "injustice" here is that part of the left exaggerated his connections to the regime, apparently he was a discrete supporter and had friends there, no proofs that he "snitched". The rest is true.
If you pay attention to the crowd, there are some people (you know who) that don't clap their hands at the end.
