    We appreciate the knowledge the lost cause ranch has for the land rover community, this is admirable and helpful for all the diy rover guys out there. We have plenty selfish haters out there that want to take this knowledge to the grave. This is what being a rover guy should be . Wave and help the fellow rover guy out.

    I have a GM 6.2liter in my 97 (Disco 1). This was done by SWR automotive. Lots of trials and tribulation, and I think at times, folks were ready to throw in the towel. Rob Dassler did a great job!!!! One change....go full$$ and get a good radiator done, the one I purchased for the project leaked and twisted up like a pretzel. Also, I would highly recommend you don't use drive by wire....you could get stranded if there are any issues. Lingenfelter box to pull it all together, and a serious tune now have the truck running better. My problem now you ask....the GM pump, keeps blowing the seals out of the steering box...I've replaced the seals twice on one box, and put a rebuilt box in another time. Anyone hear about using a pressure regulator ?? I did hear about it somewhere.

    Excellent video! Very thorough. I need some guidance: I have a 2003 Range Rover HSE (original owner) with the BMW engine aluminum block 4.4 with aluminum head. The headgasket is failing and repair shops are quoting a 30-hour repair with no warranty. They are ALL declining the repair and advising me to just swap the engine to a refurbished with a warranty. (3-year 100k). If I decide to swap, will this LS option be a better way to go? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

    If only you had been doing this 6 years ago when I replaced my engine with a rebuilt Tophatted one. The price of the engine plus the shop work came out to about the same. Granted, I got ripped off by the guy who did the work, A simple engine swap should not have cost me 4 grand and taken three months. Hello from the opposite side of the state! No plans as of yet to do anything on an LR3. For me it’s more economical to just step into an LR4 than to swap an LR3. The LR4 makes respectable power, but likes fuel just as much as the LR3 unfortunately. I wish we would have gotten the diesel D1s and D2s over here as well.

    The new LR4 engine is quite a deal to find and then it is expensive. Would you kindly recommend the best engine to be swapped and what all needs to be replaced in order to get her back on the road.

I used advanced adapters tailshaft on the tranny that converts it to Jeep 23 spline. Then used Diesel Conversion specialist LT230 to Jeep 23 spline adapter. This keeps it a short combo. If you use the marks or RW adapter, the GM trans plus the adapter will make you have to move the TC. The way I did it keeps the engine and TC in the same location.

    This is SOOOOO worth doing- I did my new 4.6 top-hat engine two years before ACE came out with this- I don't have slipped sleeve problems any more- but every other Land Rover problem is still present engine-wise. I spent $11k on that new engine- I'm doing this next. My 4.6 is still vastly under-powered for the rig it's in- get's TERRIBLE mileage too- is constantly hunting for gears on the slightest incline and basically sucks- but it still lives in the best looking SUV on the planet- so I'm giving it a heart upgrade soon! At just under $6k- it's worth every penny.

    Like over 50% of this swap list can be had for free. You buy a wrecked or blown transmission GMT800 Silverado, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, etc from marketplace for no more than $2,000. The year range is 2000-2006, the Silverado started in ‘99. Take the engine and everything you need out of it. Part the rest of the truck out and you’ll end up breaking even or making money. The early ones came with drive by cable throttles too so if you got one of those you wouldn’t even need to get the throttle body separately.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Год назад

      I agree you could save some money doing more leg work. I wanted an aluminum block so that is some additional cost and there is no aluminum block drive by cable out there. And depends on what your time is worth labor wise removing the engine and parting out the spare truck. But I agree that it is a good way to make this more affordable. Appreciate the response and I’m sure it will help some other people considering this but in the edge cost wise.

    Awesome build!! Do you know of any folks using the ACE system that has had issues regarding transmission failure of limp mode issues? A reputable shop here in Houston claims the kit is junk… I’ve seen the ACE long term vehicle stats and have heard no negative responses.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  2 года назад +1

      I’d be curious to see what they thought was junk about the kit. It is a little cumbersome if you look at it vs. a factory installed engine. Also, by looking at some of the instruction pictures I think the kit has some more refined parts now vs. some earlier kits but I can’t comment on that as I’m not affiliated or anything with ACE. I could see being a little annoyed at the kit if you were trying to install it for a customer and you had to hit a certain dollar amount as the first go around took some time to sort through all that is going on.
      The transmission failure would be interested gm to see how it happened, you could definitely overpower the Rover transmission with an LS so you do have to be somewhat smart with your driving. And if it was in limp mode there was something not happy.

      Your callout is my biggest gripe with the ACE kit but it simply takes considerable adjustment and readjustment since the crank sensor’s position relative to the trigger wheel on the crank pulley is so sensitive. Incorrect adjustment with this leads to the limp issue and idle issues. Everything else about the kit is great and I’m hoping that future improvements will allow for use of GM accessories and maybe a more reliable way to position the crank sensor. #hatersgonnahate
