We all appreciate how Ruby keeps us updated on what’s going on in her life. Concord looks lovely to see. May God bless her and her future endeavors in life.
Thank you Ruby, Little Women has been part of my life for around 65 years, it was so lovely to see the house where she wrote. The March Family continue to be part of my family with my daughter and granddaughter also sharing my love of Jo. Glad you are having such a good time.
I remember liking Beth the most out of the March sisters when I was a kid. I adored her for her quiet wisdom and her selfless caring for other people, and was very much drawn to that. I read the translated edition for children then, and did not release that it only had the first half. I was very much saddened by what happened to her when I read the full version later in life, but I still like her a lot.
I do agree with you all about Beth. The more I read the book the more loved she became by me. It was her quiet love and how the little everyday things are often the most important. I still can't get past the fim version when Hannah holds her dolls hands after she died. Hannah knew too.
I am so excited to watch this. Jo march was one of my first literary characters who I saw myself in. I just loved how rebellious how outspoken and the fact she wanted to write. I just love her so much so thanks for making this video
What I love so much about this is that it’s Jo March inspired day but it’s not just full of aesthetics- you have quotes from the book too and have done your research. This made the video a treasure to watch!! ❤
It looks like you made the most out of your lovely trip to New England 🙂 I love when people can visit and really appreciate the history of an author's place. 🖋️
Here's the content this Alcott scholar has been waiting for! I mentioned before that I used to take my MA thesis edits to Bronson's bench in the morning before the museum opened, because if you can work on your Alcott-based thesis at Orchard House, you totally do that! I love the stories about how Concord neighbors back in the Alcotts' time used to keep an eye out to see if Bronson was on his bench eating apples, because they knew then to take the long way home, up behind the house and through the woods, so they wouldn't get roped into conversation with him. For some reason, I've always found this deeply relatable.
Last time I was this early..Ruby had just started university...Now I have started law school...Ruby and I have grown together ❤️ and I am so happy about what she's doing with her life xoxo
You know you are actually quite like Jo which is admirable. Thank you for this upload. Please keep on inspiring us to reach for our dreams. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, Ruby. 🌻
My favourite is not little women, but it’s sequel little men. It’s not only so interesting to see how the characters of little women have developed and changed but also the boys stories are both heartwarming and heartbreaking- my number one comfort book!
Same! I’m not sure which I like more, they’re both amazing but Little Men has been good so far. I like the new characters which is surprising because I didn’t think I would like it that much-
It’s difficult to put into words how satisfying it was to watch this video about Jo March. You remind me of Lucy Worsley as she narrates one of her historical documentaries. Ruby, I hope you do more videos about famous authors or characters in their books. I enjoyed your New England videos very much!

I am thrilled that you got to live a dream of re-enacting a marvellous day of Jo. Little Women is one of my favourite books, as well, and I, too, identified with Jo. I’ve got a very Jo-ish personality! It was lovely to see Orchard House from within, too. I have been,
In 1994, I was 9 years old. My parents went to the movies and saw something else while I saw Little Woman alone. I was afterwards obsessed with wanting to be a writer! Later that year, while my mom went away somewhere and I stayed with my grandpa, my mom snuck Little Women the novel into my away bag. It definitely is a cozy read and I appreciate this vlog a lot. I still have that edition. I hope to reread it this winter.I did see the latest one in theaters on Xmas day and while it was fine, it just did not hit like the 1994 one for me.
Oh and then I remember that day I asked my mom to buy me a notebook at the drug store so I could write, and I filled it up in like one day with stories. Ah to be 9.
I'm so glad you went to the Alcott house tour! It was amazing and such a big interesting house! Good gift shop too, I bought an old used LMA book there
with regards to associating certain things with productivity/work, i always associate a lit candle (any scent) and a fizzy lollipop (i feel like i get a lil shock and sugar rush) with doing uni work !!!
hi ruby! since you love little women so much, i thought you might as well enjoy a children’s series called ‘the penderwicks’ by jeanne birdsall. it’s kind of like a modern interpretation of little women and it holds a very dear place in my heart as someone who enjoyed little women a lot as well. i do have to say though that i only know the german version, and the english original might differ a little, but i am sure it’s still great!
I was so delighted to see this comment! I grew up reading the Penderwicks in English, devouring the first book shortly after its publication during my middle school 5th grade year, and continuing to grow with the Penderwick sisters up through the final book’s publication during my third year at university. The author, Jeanne Birdsall, is a Massachusetts resident and was undoubtedly influenced by Little Women, yet somehow managed to make her characters complete masterpieces of literature in their own right. Although the books are set in the modern day, the tone, settings, and even the dialogue feels truly timeless. I can’t recommend this series highly enough - for all ages! ❤️
Both Louisa May Alcott and her mother Abigail May Alcott lived fascinating and unusual lives for 19th-century women. I'd recommend reading about them if you're interested. Abba Alcott was also a fine writer herself, so if you can find her diaries or letters, you'll find she had a bold voice and a sharp sense of humor. No wonder Marmee March is immortal.
This video is really sweet Ruby! Just a note from the Marmee quote: ennui is a French word and pronounced like on-nwee (at least that’s the best I can approximate how you’d pronounce it in English!) rather than en-n-wY!
I am learning SO much about some of my favorite authors through your tour, and love seeing it through your eyes! Also, make sure to let us know when those articles are published, so we can check them out. 🙂
I loved your American series. You visited every place I've always wanted to see. I want to visit Emerson's home as well. Autumn is the perfect season to spend time in that region. Thank you so much. I will be watching this series multiple times.
Great video. I have really enjoyed watching your vlogs from your US trip and would LOVE to see you exploring more homes of famous writers!! Also, if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend the biography “Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women” by Harriet Reisen. I wasn’t aware of all the hardship Alcott endured, and as a writer, I find her life to be extremely inspiring. Now I have her picture over my writing desk, and I often think of channeling my “inner Louisa.” There is also a fascinating companion documentary to the book that I think is on Amazon Prime video.
Thanks for speaking more slowly when reading to us this time, Ruby. It makes it so much easier to hear what you're saying. Much appreciated. ❤️ BTW, the Russet apple is actually an English apple. If you haven't managed to taste one in America you can find them in some greengrocers shops here in the UK. Or you could buy a tree from a garden centre although you'd have to wait a year or so for it to fruit. Not quite the same ambience to enjoy it in perhaps, but they are very tasty apples. 😋 👍 You must have made some lovely memories whilst travelling, maybe some little moments to add to your own writing one day? Looking forward to seeing more of your vlogs. X❤️X

Oh, I could just cry! I paused the video and went to look for my copy and it was not anywhere on my shelves. I think ... I may have sold it to the bookstore when I was desperate for money a while back. ARGH! I do have it on Kindle. At least there's that. If I can afford it, I think my birthday present to myself in a few months will be a new, hardcover version. Or those fake leather ones. Not anything too large, it has to be small enough to take with me in a bag. But this is a book I will reread the rest of my life. It's such a comfort read!
This was a wonderful trip! Thanks so very much for sharing. Jo is my favorite too. I always loved her nonconformist, free spirit. I will definitely be rereading Little Women. Have you read Little Men and Jo's Boys? I enjoyed them many years ago. Still have my old copies. Once again, thank you for this video. It was wonderful to watch. So glad you had a great time.
I adore your America vlogs! It feels like I'm travelling aboard myself (it has been 10 years since I've been to the States). Also, I bought 'Little Women' because of your channel. I'm looking forward to read it during the Christmas holidays soon.
Hello! American country girl here, Russet doesn't refer to any particular variety of apple. It's more of a general descriptor for apples with russeting on the skin. Think of a russet potato, rough patches of yellowish or greenish brown on the skin. They're not very popular these days because they're smaller in size and not very pretty to look at. Most people expect smooth, shiny skins on their apples. However, you can still find them in local farmers markets sometimes.
For christmas this year, I've bought my 3 nieces classics I enjoyed when I was young (and still do). For the 10 yr old I bought Little Women, for the 8 yr old I bought The Secret Garden, and for the 5 yr old I bought Heidi. I bought the Puffin in Bloom edition of Little Women and it's huge - 700+ pages. I checked the chapter list in the copy I have, and saw that my copy is only part 1, whereas the one I got for my niece is 2 parts. How did I not know there was a whole second part? Maybe I never even read part 2. Anyway I hope the 700+ pages tome is not too intimidating for my little love.
Good Wives, the second part, is usually just published with the first, together, as Little Women, but yes, it gets tricky, especially with publications for younger readers, making sure you have the complete OG text. The Secret Garden was my favorite.
This trip will make you a good writer because it opens your mind especially that you've visited extraordinary house like Louisa May Alcott, as i am a writer too i do often visit my writers friends and others writers to be inspired from their lives. I wish to see your next book soon. Good luck from a Lebanese writer.
Ruby, not sure if you're a fan of William Faulkner, but Rowan Oak in Oxford Mississippi was his home before his daughter sold it to Ole Miss. You should check it out.
I read little woman when I was a kid, I can't remember if the book was given to me or I bought it from a book sale but I loved it and it's the only real classics other then Alice in wonderland. I really enjoyed the adaption of little woman. I have it recorded, I'll have to watch it again soon.
At first I didn't like the idea of a writing jacket because I didn't see the point, then I realized that it's like putting on an apron before you begin work in the kitchen. For the apple you might like them if you put a bit of chocolate syrup on top. See you in the next video. 👋
I am once again asking for a vegan favourites series! I admire your ethical decision SM and would love to learn more about it. Also; what milk do you tend to have in tea? Especially English breakfast.
Ah thank you Victoria! I don't think I'll film a dedicated video, but I would really recommend Mina Rome for vegan recipes - I usually use her videos when looking for something new to try :) And I use alpro coconut milk for tea, or sometimes oat milk!

I didn't know this! Thank you so much for telling me :) xx
Good luck from a Lebanese writer.
jo is my favorite too! but maya hawke is my favorite jo, though i love the newest little women (like you) a lot
This is what I needed.
Little Women was my favorite book growing up.
Forever enthusiastic 😍😍
Ruby, not sure if you're a fan of William Faulkner, but Rowan Oak in Oxford Mississippi was his home before his daughter sold it to Ole Miss. You should check it out.
Thanks for sharing!
I read little woman when I was a kid, I can't remember if the book was given to me or I bought it from a book sale but I loved it and it's the only real classics other then Alice in wonderland. I really enjoyed the adaption of little woman. I have it recorded, I'll have to watch it again soon.
Little Women is one of my favorite books ❤
Boxed water - thats the sign you are in Concord! Hope you checked out the British aisle in Concord market 😃
Macintosh apple? It all makes sense now!
At first I didn't like the idea of a writing jacket because I didn't see the point, then I realized that it's like putting on an apron before you begin work in the kitchen. For the apple you might like them if you put a bit of chocolate syrup on top. See you in the next video. 👋
Ooh that’s a good point! And I will try the combination - I’d never think to combine those and I must admit that I’m intrigued…
Weekday B & B did you stay in during your stay? It's lovely and certainly seems to be central to all things good. 🧡
I was curious if you’ve read James Joyce’s Ulysses. I love Joyce’s writing.
I am once again asking for a vegan favourites series! I admire your ethical decision SM and would love to learn more about it.
Also; what milk do you tend to have in tea? Especially English breakfast.
Ah thank you Victoria! I don't think I'll film a dedicated video, but I would really recommend Mina Rome for vegan recipes - I usually use her videos when looking for something new to try :)
And I use alpro coconut milk for tea, or sometimes oat milk!
I like your shoes. Do you mind telling me what kind they are and where you got them?
"...going fill up hot water for a hot water bottle because i'm quite chilly" -sounds like a very British Jo March.
Very true 😂
I've been on a huge Little Women jag over the past couple of weeks!
i had to read Little Women for my summer reading. i only read part I (ssshhh...), but it was actually very entertaining.
