Okay I’m dodging internet rage by naming Blofeld the best Bond villain but this version of Blofeld is also the best of everything because even though he loses the war, he’ll make sure Bond pays for it.

Absolutely when I read the Thunderball and OHMSS Savalas definitely fit Flemings description and perfectly conveyed the characters deviousness

I watched OHMSS for the first time last year and I have to say that yes, Telly Savalas is my favorite Blofeld. I first saw him in The Dirty Dozen where he was a whole different kind of evil. I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head with everything you said. I love that he's the perfect mix of brains, brawn, cunning and charisma that I think makes for the perfect villain. And also agree, him taking part in the pursuit of Bond throughout the film and even the ending drive-by (with a broken neck no less) is great as it shows that he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and in the trenches with his henchmen. If a chase fails I don't see him as the Blofeld to give you the "You've failed me for the last time" speech before knifing or electrocuting you.. If I was going to work for a villain in the Bond franchise, this Blofeld is the one.
