    this is fantastic, but i cant find "split masked points" in the polygroups section. have they changed what it is called now, almost later?

    • @Gatz3D
      @Gatz3D  2 года назад

      Hey! Thanks for watching! Split Masked Points should be near the bottom of the Subtool menu in a menu called “Split”. It should be right below the Delete button in the Subtool menu. :)
      Hope this helps!

    Do you think it's necessary to have a good understanding of anatomy to make realistic-looking armor ? I started building an armor with a base mesh as my first sculpting project before learning how to sculpt the body, and I was wondering whether I should sculpt a body first to learn the anatomy and then build the armor.

    • @Gatz3D
      @Gatz3D  3 года назад

      Hey Samuel! That is a good question. I believe that studying anatomy is a really good foundation for character art in general, and if you’re going to be making armor on top of a base mesh, sometimes it is good to have a knowledge of how the body moves and is put together in order to better understand the functionality of the armor you’re making. Many suits of armor were originally designed for a specific function, and those designs were mainly based on the limitations of the human form.
      You might not need to know any anatomy to create armor from a base mesh, but having that knowledge will definitely help inform your decisions and open your eyes to new possibilities as you create more and more. I’d love to see what you’re working on! :)

    So.. you had to retopo and then uv thst? Would be curious to see that

    • @Gatz3D
      @Gatz3D  3 года назад

      Correct!
      Generally i will do a detailed sculpt, then duplicate it, then Retopo the copy, subdivide the Retopo’d mesh a few times, then project the detailed sculpt onto the Retopo’d subdivided mesh at the highest subdivision level.
      Then you create your UV’s on your lowest Subdivision level (on the Retopo’d mesh), and create details/textures on the highest subdivision levels.
      Such a process, but I believe this is the workflow that a lot of artists use.

    • @AndrewByrnes1
      @AndrewByrnes1 3 года назад

      @@Gatz3D you retopo inside of zbrush? Interesting. I usually retopo by hand inside maya. On complex designs like the one you have sculpted though, it can be a nightmare.

    • @Gatz3D
      @Gatz3D  3 года назад +1

      @@AndrewByrnes1 Haha yes! 😂 That project was a bit of a nightmare, especially because I had so little experience at the time. It was a great learning lesson though! Now I like to do retopo in Blender by hand, or if I can get away with Zremesher and paint the curves where I want them with the Zremesher Guide Brush, I’ll do that to save time on smaller parts without having to leave Zbrush.
      I enjoy talking about these processes with other artists! Soon my Discord will be functional and we can all help educate each other on these dense/difficult topics. :)
      Thanks again for the support!!

    Would Zbrush work for game assets? Seems like the topology is a little too detailed for that. Is there a way to create like a low/high version of each piece?
    I have no experience in Zbrush and just wanted to have a general idea before I jump into it. As incredible as this tutorial is, if it can't be used for game assets then I'm not sure I'd bother jumping into your beginner Zbrush tutorials.
    Edit: Nevermind, I answered it my self. Zbrush would work great for doing all the high poly stuff and adding detail, but I'd still need a base low poly that was modeled elsewhere.

    • @Gatz3D
      @Gatz3D  3 года назад +1

      Hey! Yes that is correct. A lot of people do a high-res sculpt in Zbrush and do their retopology in Maya/Blender after. Zbrush has Zremesher and the Zremesher Guide brush to get topology in the right flow/direction, but nothing beats the accuracy of manual retopology for sure.
      That being said, Zbrush is excellent for many things other than sculpting. You can do concepting, painting, and uv’s for quick exporting. I suppose it just depends on whether Zbrush meets your project needs or not! :D
