I'm so thankful for the Bontrager Solstice. I got hit by a car 2 weeks ago and landed on my helmet. The back left part was smushed in & cracks throughout the inside and outside of the helmet. I suffered a severe concussion, but no doubt I would have been killed if not for the helmet. Today I got an upgrade from my LBS to this helmet. I dont obviously plan to ever get hit again, but I'm so grateful they take these steps to make a product which make the helmets so much safer
Oh man, I hope you're ok, how are you holding up now. kudos to you for finding the courage to get BACK ON your bike. Bloody courageous. Hope you have many safe rides to come.
@@abbreviateTomeI know I'm a year late. But thank you! Last year cycled over 5000 miles. I'm doing much better. Still struggle with migraines and anxiety, but its far less frequent. I'm stronger physically than ever before and my mental health is definitely improving as time goes by. Never give up, because the alternative is much worse.
I don’t know if y’all gonna see this but your helmets saved my dads live from the bike accident that he had yesterday so I can say that these helmets are a lifesaver
Just had a nasty OTB in the Forrest. Landed straight on the roots in front of me. At the angle the Wavecel is designed to do its job. Just a single cut and minor bruises no internal injury. Thank you!!!! I’m waiting for my new WCell helmet.
I got my new WaveCel less than and month ago when I got my new Trek SL6 AXS bike. I had an old helmet that I thought was good, but I liked the feel, color and that you could add lights. Very comfortable to wear and only gets a little hot in the S FL heat. I put the front and rear lights on it just in case. I would not have known how great the design was without this video. I hope to never need it, but I feel better reading the comments below about real crashes and how people survived. By luck I decided to get a new helmet that turns out to be great!
I think my dog chewing on my helmet was a blessing in disguise. I had a regular Bontrager helmet and up graded to a Bontrager with wave cell technology. Since I also have a history of concussions from bikes accidents (3). It only made sense...I hope I never have to find out how well the helmet works...be safe and enjoy your rides 🚲
I have a history of concussions so the guy at my local shop told me the Wavecel was the helmet for me. I bought the Starvos (fit me the best) and now ride with confidence.
First crash in my Specter Wavecel I got a concussion... bummed to say the least. Could have happened with any helmet, however, I hit my front temple area. If you look at the Wavecel design, the front temple area doesn't get covered by the actual Wavecel membrane. The front inch or so it just the solid foam. So if you directly hit this area, you have zero Wavecel, and no MIPS in these helmets to help relieve any impact. If I had a helmet with MIPS, it does generally cover that area & possibly could have deflected some of the impact. Now out of warranty since I'm over a year in the helmet and trying to decide on a safe replacement.
Actually turned in the helmet to Bike Barn in Houston Texas, and they honored the Crash Warranty. They actually replaced the helmet before I even had my new bike. If Bontrager wants the picture I have them from the road side to the Emergency Room and after.

In The Netherlands many elder people die on their electric bikes. They wear a cheap 20 dollar "helmet" because the law says so. I wear a helmet for pure protection. That is why i bought a Bontrager Spectre in bright Yellow. I have only 1 brain
Hey! Did you consider to put sensors into the helmet to be able to further analyse the concussions risk and develop you’re product? It would be amazing! 😮
Having just fractured C1, C6, and C7 neck vertebrae during a MTB endo that drove the top of my head directly in the ground (different brand of helmet), I wonder how well Wavecell technology absorbs the force of direct impacts vs ones that are glancing/off-angle.
Thanks Bontrager, I am certain I would have died 2 days ago if I was not wearing the wavecell helmet. I have ordered a replacement but still too banged up to ride as yet.
Very cool. Sounds like a mips 2.0. Great that more resources are being put into this. Has much happened to helmet designs in the last couple of decades? Both mips and this is very interesting technology.
My Airbag Vest that I use for Motorcycling says it's Great for Dressage because a Full Face Length Helmet would Pair up with the Jacket's Clavicle Support & Neck Rolls that'll Blow up in just 16 Milliseconds (after the 70 Foot Pound Tether breaks free & activatesnthe CO2 Cartridge)
Bottom line, a helmet is better than no helmet. I do have a wave cell helmet but rather not find out if it works or not. MIPS moves but your head is mm away from your inner helmet with no layers in between. The non science person in me prefers that extra cushion.
I have a Bontrager Solstice MIPS Helmet and I absolutely love it, from what I have seen from the Virginia Tech study there's no appreciable improvement to justify paying more than twice the cost for the wavecel and I hope to see Trek continue to offer value-oriented MIPS helmets.
@chefgav1 Im not having a go at you, but could you explain a bit more. I think you are not looking at mips vs wavecel specific articles. Most articles say mips is better than non mips but they never directly compare it to wavecel. Plus, wavecel has been proved to reduce both rotational and linear force unlike mips which is only effective at reducing rotational force.
@TheTrump86 MIPS and wavecell have been thoroughly tested by VT. Bontrager have a model called the rally which one was MIPS and one was wavecell same model just different safety technology. When VT released there ratings the MIPS was found to be significantly safer which would have been a huge embarrassment to them considering there claims on wavecell. Not long after the findings the rally MIPS was quickly discontinued
