Hello Henry, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Back in the days when this video was taken GoPro cameras suffered from the jelly effect when subject to vibration from a diesel locomotive, speeding the video up reduced the jelly effect to an acceptable level.

Do you have any more footage of coming into Christchurch? The video cuts out just after Northcote Road, but if you had from Northcote Road to Christchurch Station, one could watch these in conjunction with the existing TranzAlpine cab ride for a near continuous run all the way from Picton to Greymouth.

Hi, I stopped the video because the light had faded to the point where the picture quality was too poor to use ( it was almost dark). I hope to put this right on my next visit in 2015 subject to a little help from Kiwi Rail. I will also be posting my latest trip aboard the Trans Alpine including some cab footage in the next month or so.....Tim.

Timsvideochannel1 Looking forward to seeing your TranzAlpine stuff, especially if it's anything like this set with cab footage combined with viewing deck highlights.
If you come down in the summer months, you get good lighting for the whole trip, though it all depends on how flexible your holiday times are and when you can make it down and such.

When was this sequence filmed? I am guessing some time between May 5 and May 30th judging by the lack of leaves on most trees, but its still green and not much snow. Plus the fact it is getting dark before they reach Chch which is around 5.30pm.

Hi Tim, what is the name of the first song playing, with all the random noises in it? Thanks.

Hi, the music was purchased from SmartSound for use with their SonicFire Pro 5 software app in Pinnacle Studio. The track is "Machina" from a collection called "Edge 05/Rhythms/pulse and the version is "Engage". Music used in this video is listed in the credits at the end. I'm not sure if this will work, but here is a link to the track - www.smartsound.com/royalty-free-music/Edge+05%3A+Drums+_+Rhythms+_+Pulse/Machina/

Hi, it was filmed in late summer. The weather in New Zealand is very changeable.

I've got to admire your resolve sticking it out to the end. This train did not run this season due to earthquake damage. I look forward to returning when the full line reopens to see how much the quake damage has changed the route. Full marks to KiwiRail and the New Zealand Government for not giving up on the line, when it might well have been the easy option.

This line has been completely ruined due to a 7.8 earthquake.

The quake has been devastating for both the people of South Island and the railway. We can only hope that both the people and hopefully the railway recover from this terrible tragedy.
