  • Nadal vs Soderling - Roland Garros 2009 / Biggest Shock in Tennis
    Nadal was 23 at RG2009, World No.1 that time and not lose any matches at Roland Garros before. And Soderling made it happened. The first person defeated Nadal on clay, at Roland Garros. This is highlights of the match. Sorry that I dont have first set of it. Enjoys !

    One of the biggest performances in Tennis history. I saw this live in RG and Söderling played like an Alien. That forehand was so powerful. By far the best Match I have ever seen. People were absolutely shocked after the game. Rafa was amazing that day but Söderling simply overpowered him.

    • @gqnelly
      @gqnelly Год назад +7

      The forehand? How about the backhand? That was the shot that made the difference. Rafa loves to hammer crosscourt forehands against a right handed opponents backhand and break it down. Soderling returned those shots with interest and like Djokovic...he could drill backhands down the line to finish points or tilt the court in his favor. Robin was absolutely obliterating those down the linebackhands and this limited the effectiveness Rafa's forehand since Soderling wasnt baited into a crosscourt exchange. Rafa eventually ends those when he finds a forehand down the line for a winner. Soderlings flatter shots were so penetrating and this served forced some short balls that he just ripped the cover off...amazing tennis. An absolute power clinic....

      @@gqnelly I agree. Rafa was totally confident that he would beat Söderling on clay since he did it handily just a few weeks before, and RS had very poor clay court stats in comparison. I really love the fact that someone just can decide to be better than ever and execute it.

    It was said he was hurt at that time, but he was still playing a lot better than when he played against djokovic in 2015. Soderling had to play really great to crush him. Loads of monster deep forehand and backhand winner at critical moments.. Whether he was injured or not he was still running and hitting like the beast he usually is on the court. No sign of any weakness! Soderling is to me the only one who beat the real "nadal" on court! The defeat against djokovic does not really count as at that time he had really lost his confidence.

      BS excuse he didn't lose a single set going into this match and didn't make the typical excuse he always does in the post game interviews. The excuse was only made weeks after.

      No excuses. Both Djokovic and Soderling beat Nadal fair and square. If a player steps onto a court to compete, it is assumed they are healthy enough and that is that. Nadal played pretty good in 2009, but Soderling was just in the zone. In 2015, Djokovic was in great form and thrashed the bull in straight sets. Nadal was having one of his worst years on tour, but who's responsibility is that other than him? It was justified too because Djokovic should have won in 2013(that unnecessary net call will forever be remembered of robbing Nole another FO).

      @@s.l5787 He lost to Sock in 2015. Didn't win a single title before going to RG. Lost in straight sets in AO to Berdych including 0:6 and to Murray in Madrid. Then USO first time ever losing after winning first two sets. It was the worst year in his career.
      In 2009 he lost to a better player that day. In 2015 he was extremely low on confidence.

      NLLeFa Nadal was flat out horse crap in 2015. In addition to what you mentioned, he lost to Berrer in Doha, lost to Raonic in IW after dropping 5 match points, lost to Fognini twice (Rio and Barcelona), and lost to Wawrinka in Rome. Nadal facing Djokovic that year would be the equivalent of 2017 Djokovic playing against 2010 or 2013 Nadal.

    I was at Roland Garros for the 3rd round and I remember seeing on the game board in 2009 Soderling - Ferrer, I thought it was Federer - Soderling, it was just premonitory.

    Robin Soderling hardest forehand what I saw. It is not about power it about how close ball fly near net, like straight line.

    The level soderling displayed in this match simply wasn’t human. To take the ball that early and hit it that hard and sustain it for an entire Bo5 match…simply incredible. A once in a lifetime performance. Soderling must’ve sold his soul to the devil for it or something.
