Nadal was 23 at RG2009, World No.1 that time and not lose any matches at Roland Garros before. And Soderling made it happened. The first person defeated Nadal on clay, at Roland Garros. This is highlights of the match. Sorry that I dont have first set of it. Enjoys ! - Спорт

One of the biggest performances in Tennis history. I saw this live in RG and Söderling played like an Alien. That forehand was so powerful. By far the best Match I have ever seen. People were absolutely shocked after the game. Rafa was amazing that day but Söderling simply overpowered him.
It´s great to read a comment from somebody who was actually there...
The forehand? How about the backhand? That was the shot that made the difference. Rafa loves to hammer crosscourt forehands against a right handed opponents backhand and break it down. Soderling returned those shots with interest and like Djokovic...he could drill backhands down the line to finish points or tilt the court in his favor. Robin was absolutely obliterating those down the linebackhands and this limited the effectiveness Rafa's forehand since Soderling wasnt baited into a crosscourt exchange. Rafa eventually ends those when he finds a forehand down the line for a winner. Soderlings flatter shots were so penetrating and this served forced some short balls that he just ripped the cover off...amazing tennis. An absolute power clinic....
@@gqnelly I agree. Rafa was totally confident that he would beat Söderling on clay since he did it handily just a few weeks before, and RS had very poor clay court stats in comparison. I really love the fact that someone just can decide to be better than ever and execute it.
Great analysis. Soderling played like a giant Djokovic with an excocet missile for a back hand which served to destruct Nadals game
Such a shame that his health ended his career. As a result he was only in his prime for 2-3 years but during that period he was one of the best players in the world. He even overtook murray in the rankings.

Söderlings ability to take high spin balls so early was magnificent. Such a good clay player.

@@meetdenis82 Rafa didn't lose to Nole because he didn't even reach him the previous year, getting trashed in the semis. And it would be absurd to suggest Federer would have deserved the title more if was losing earlier instead of in the final.
When you look at the game, the way Soderling played, this win was not a shock. He deserved it. Nadal made a mistake by keep playing on Soderling's forehand.
Also, by not playing more aggressively. After the first couple of sets you would think he would change his play style. When Nadal did go more aggressive, it worked well for him.
@@usmh There was not way Nadal was winning against Soderling. I could tell by the tempo of the first set he was fucked.

Soderling kept his composure throughout the entire match. Many of his shots should’ve been easy points but Rafa was still able to get them back and Soderling didn’t get shaken up because of it.
The only man who truly destroyed the wall. One of my two best Roland Garros memories in the last thirteen years. Thanks Robin.

@ensayofr He's always injured or acts injured when he is losing
@ensayofr No excuses. Both Djokovic and Soderling beat Nadal fair and square. If a player steps onto a court to compete, it is assumed they are healthy enough and that is that. Nadal played pretty good in 2009, but Soderling was just in the zone. In 2015, Djokovic was in great form and thrashed the bull in straight sets. Nadal was having one of his worst years on tour, but who's responsibility is that other than him? Soderling was insane on clay. Beating Nadal and Federer like he was toying with them. I guess the ball bouncing higher was perfect for his strokes, pretty much every shoot was a winner.
I'd say not even Soderling's family predicted that one
At that time, Rafael Nadal's parents were in a difficult divorce process, which was affecting him morally and psychologically a lot.
That led to the final being played between Robin Söderling and Roger Federer, the Swiss taking advantage of his only Roland Garros. The following year Nadal faced Robin Söderling again on this occasion, clearly winning three sets. Then he only lost two more games at Roland Garros against the Serbian N. And maybe he had a bad AO 2008 because of mononucleosis but i don't know if it was already there when he played and lost to Djokovic in straight sets.
And for Djokovic i didn't noticed excuses, except maybe after USO 2016 until RG 2018 included cuz he was having a really bad period, out of Top 3 and was ranked as number 21 or something else, so he lost to some players during this period then came back at Wimbledon 2018 for real. I think it was fair to find excuses in that period for Djokovic.
However, i find it strange he is taking medical time out when he's loosing or struggling like against Carreno few days ago and against Thiem in AO 2020, it's not the first time he did this, but didn't see many people saying he was injured whenever he lost, unlike it happens more with Nadal to me.

It was said he was hurt at that time, but he was still playing a lot better than when he played against djokovic in 2015. Soderling had to play really great to crush him. Nadal was having one of his worst years on tour, but who's responsibility is that other than him? It was justified too because Djokovic should have won in 2013(that unnecessary net call will forever be remembered of robbing Nole another FO).
@@s.l5787 He lost to Sock in 2015. Didn't win a single title before going to RG. Lost in straight sets in AO to Berdych including 0:6 and to Murray in Madrid. Then USO first time ever losing after winning first two sets. It was the worst year in his career.
In 2009 he lost to a better player that day. In 2015 he was extremely low on confidence.
NLLeFa Nadal was flat out horse crap in 2015. In addition to what you mentioned, he lost to Berrer in Doha, lost to Raonic in IW after dropping 5 match points, lost to Fognini twice (Rio and Barcelona), and lost to Wawrinka in Rome. Nadal facing Djokovic that year would be the equivalent of 2017 Djokovic playing against 2010 or 2013 Nadal.
Hahahaha was Nadal hurt last year
I was at Roland Garros for the 3rd round and I remember seeing on the game board in 2009 Soderling - Ferrer, I thought it was Federer - Soderling, it was just premonitory.
Who here after Nadal win 12th title ??
The Dominator me🤣🤣🤣
Without Robin Soderling , Roger federer will never win French Grand Slam
Sederling showed the recipe to beat nadal. It just dam near impossible to replicate.
alex he just beat him once and even he can't figure out how
alex . Nadal was'nt fully fit . Didn't have the muscle too rev up the back of the ball and get the heavy spin . Couldn't run the ball down enough .
When a player gets his forehand going Nadal has a tough time.
Robin Soderling hardest forehand what I saw. It is not about power it about how close ball fly near net, like straight line.
A great day for the sport
The level soderling displayed in this match simply wasn’t human. To take the ball that early and hit it that hard and sustain it for an entire Bo5 match…simply incredible. A once in a lifetime performance. Soderling must’ve sold his soul to the devil for it or something.
Nah. Nadal of 2008 would have whacked him. This Nadal was not 100%
The day even god was shocked
your god is very weak
