Reminds me when I was a kid I would bring a ferro rod, 550 cord a flashlight with 50 batteries, a whole metal mess kit and camp stove a foil blanket. just to go 10 ft into the woodline behind my house. Now after years in the military I usually it’s a Nalgene bottle of water pack of smokes, radio w/ efhw and lifepo4 battery, and maybe the drone/go pro to go climb mountains for Sota
You could get lost in those 10 feet and need to set up camp. Better to have it and not need it I always say.
@@hamradiotube while I agree with you ounces add to pounds pounds add to pin and pain adds disability. I’m still quiet you d and can already feel it creeping up.
If they add tent loops to the bottom, I will definitely buy that. Great review!
Thanks for bringing us along. Loved the thought process and designs. 73
Good ideas & stuff. I just saw a video on Brightline Bags that feature a modular zip together system. A camera bag module could be a good set up for QRP rigs with backpack straps.
Looks good. I would want to take more water with me. Looks like I could put some below the radios on the bottom and put some sort of straw upwards.
Mike your in Michigan right ? Let’s go for a hike 👍. I almost got my go bag done. Looking for a battery and solar power mat now. 👍.
Heavens no. I defected to Texas last January.
Enjoy your VIDEO Content Mike , This Backpack is Pretty well thought out . 3 things needed to make me a Customer - 1. a chest center belt ,you know to join the shoulder Straps together and a clip . 2. a full Padded Hip Belt , very important to distribute weight . 3. Antenna Hole at the top for Pedestrian Radio Use . Just hoping one of those sto. Bags fits my TS480HX LOL. All the Best , 73, W5heh
I want a rolling version. And I wrote Giga about it
Would like to know more about the waist belt. That is what potentially makes the pack load bearing by transfering weight from shoulders to hips.
Well, it's a belt that goes around your waist. That's about all I can tell you. I never used them.
Neat video. This bag looks great and very flexible....economical too.
Looks like a nice pack. 👍 I was hoping you were going to fit the cat in there. THAT would be entertaining. Maybe not for you or the cat, but certainly for your subscribers. I've been using Mosiso padded laptop sleeves to transport the Ft-891 and tuner in my go pack. They also make good pistol cases.
Great video Mike! Seeing the IC7300 packed up sealed the deal for me.
Awesome. Just took it for a trip over the weekend and it worked great.
Was interested in this bag, but its so similar to the Vertx Gamut 2.0 I have already. If I hadn't bought that years ago for another purpose, this bag is a way better buy at $100 with the pouches. The gamut was $270!!!
I like the backpack. I’m not a amateur radio guy . I do have my GMRS license. Anyway I would like to set up a GMRS radio ,battery / antenna combo that I can put a Nagoya 771g antenna on the radio that way I can use the radio on the way to camp etc. v
I use Apache 4800 cases. No way am I gonna load all this stuff on a rucksack and strap it on my carcass (hearing crunching noises and whimpers o' pain). I did this a decade ago when I was insane and played around wih green military manpacks; Green Radio Roundup, April 2006 QST. Power to ya' bro if you can hoist this stuff!! :) Also, google the Raven 2500 pack.
I've got a bunch of those cases and I find them more cumbersome than they are helpful.
@@hamradiotube Each of us is built differently. I ain't Hercules by any stretch!
Tell me if I worry too much, but I worry about the knobs on the 891 while crammed in there like that in just a canvas bag, under a bit of weight. Am I being too paranoid? I will say that I was moderately impressed by the price. I fully expected him to say that they were charging $160 just for the bare bag and $40 for the extra accessory bags.
After dropping my 891 in the snow when I was activating the middle of a frozen lake and the 891 took it like a champ, I stopped worrying about it.
Hey Mike - any chance you know the weight of the empty backpack?
I don't but I'd guess a couple pounds.
Sweet ... eventual goal, less embarrassing than my suitcase, LOL. -Dave - KU9L
Hi Mike,
Great review. When you loaded the backpack, the coax coil had dead space in the center where you could have put a few items. Hello to Satan and you have a safe and Happy New Year. 73 WJ3U
I ended up putting a battery there over the weekend. fit perfectly. Happy new year!
This thing is great for radio and bdsm toys and tools.🛠️
I just got a bag from Gigaparts today.
Heck Yeah!
Nice, backpack. Love it. Thank you for sharing.
You bet!
Nice bag !! I just use an old flour sack and throw it over my shoulder. Time for an upgrade :)
It'd prob be more comfortable
Do you have a name or link of the rails on the 7300?
Just look up Portable Zero
Looks way better than the Icom backpack great video for the price point its a good value de W9US
Thanks Mike
Is "doingy" a technical term? 😀
Mike, still using this pack? Curious a year later how it’s doing?
Oh yeah. I use it all the time. It’s held up very well.
3:30 KITTY!
Satan: If I fits I sits and I go POTA
It looks like Mike is about to go SOTA on us with that backpack.
Now all I need is a summit...
hey,,,,,why are you still in 1080P ,,,,,,
Because I don't need all the ladies swarming my house because of my boyish good looks if I shot in 4k.
@@hamradiotube lol, 🙂,,,,, hey! im sure you would get used to the female attension after a while ,,,,,keep up the good work, love the vids mate
That seems like a really great backpack with lots of places to store stuff. I recently bought a different backpack for my bug out setup, and I have 75 feet of RG-174 coax in a small plastic container I bought at Randalls. The smaller coax seems to help with weight in both the backpack and when running up the side of a mast. I wish Sotabeams would get their fiberglass masts back in stock, because some of their masts would work really well in a POTA/SOTA/bug out bag. 73 KD5YOU
Thank you! Perfect review, super bag. 73!
My pleasure!
The new Gigaparts Explorer backpack. Mike tested, Satan approved.
That's a 2 for one special right there.
One bag to rule them all.
For those of us "of a certain age", this pack is far too large. My own experience is that I will fill every nook and cranny of a pack, ultimately making it just something to put in my truck (not on my 70 year old back). That's why I purchased an 857 Sierra Pack from Portable Zero LLC. A nice snug fit for my FT-818 (in an Armoloq frame), two 1.5 Ah Bioenno batteries, an EFHW 40m antenna, 25 ft of coax, and a Microsoft Surface computer for logging. Essentially, it's too small for me to overload.
Pouch all the things.
Why not take the cat :) a throw line and weight with folding bag is great
Maybe a pouch for the G90??
The g90 will fit in an 891 pouch, thus getting 2 birds stoned at once.
IMO, doesnt seem to have enough padding or protection for my 7300.
I have the Portable Zero rails on my 7300 so I'm not worried about it at all. But, Gigaparts is going to be releasing bags/sleeves for several different radios very soon. I've tried out first hand the prototype bag for the 7300 and had input into its design. It fits in the bag even with my rails on it, and then that fits into the bigger bag no problem.
@@hamradiotube OK COOL, THANX
Where are you going to stick the CAT control?!?!?!
Lmfao
Wherever he tells me.
The backpack seems like kind of a let down, enough room for radio gear, not really enough room for radio+hiking gear.
you really need to buy a CB
What makes you think I don't have one?
YOUR AWSOME
Satan being helpful!
Yes, "helpful", that's it lol!
I'm retired with a fixed income. I check the forecast first and take a 5¢ plastic bag in case.
Another "influencer" that got a free backpack from a company telling you that you need to buy......and don't forget my discount affiliate link.....can get military bags cheaper.
Lol another sad ham with literally nothing left to do with his pathetic life but leave negative comments. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe!
If you don't like it, why do you watch, and then comment?
We'll never know. Sad hams gonna sad ham.
@@douglasvamateurradioandmore cuz wanted to see his view. Used to really enjoy mikes videos, but I guess him moving to Texas and being closer to jason has rubbed off on him also become a sellout.. thus has mad me sad...
@@chadbruce8534 Its a $60 pack that has design elements with a ham user in mind instead of yet another bag that 'also' works for hams. The Maxpedition water bottle pouch that lots of people use for the 705 costs nearly the same...a water bottle pouch. It isn't going to be all things for everyone, but its hitting a lot of the points that many of us have been looking for and unless the folks at Tom Bihn or Kifaru suddenly become interested in this market, we probably won't see anything else this focused (excepting the hyper-focused options like Icom's bag). I don't know what kind of view you were expecting, but I think most people would have a tough time coming up with significant criticisms for what it is so far.
