      Hi Stephen! Thanks for giving it a try. I’ve never tried carving black walnut. It’s beautiful wood and I may have to give it a try.

    Cousin Jack, found you through Reddit and really like your video for the comfort bear! The chatting is nice. Camera setup and lighting is quality too. Also, learned about the Janka Hardness Scale!
    I subscribed and look forward to the angel tutorial as well.

      Hi Cousin Elam! So happy that you enjoyed the video! Sunni and I appreciate your comments about the camera angle and lighting too. You'll find variations on the Janka scale. Some versions include more wood species than others.

    Really enjoying these unedited long videos. I've been carving for a while now and my main problem is the little "stringy" wood parts in the corners where you can't sand. I whittle woth planks maybe thats the problem.

    • @whittling
      @whittling  2 года назад +1

      Thanks very much! There are a variety of things that can cause the stringy effect. Sometimes the wood can be poor quality and that can be frustrating. I'm planning a future video on this subject about "winning the battle against the fuzzies". Thanks for posting your comment!

    What is meant by comfort bear?

    • @whittling
      @whittling  2 года назад

      Hi Gary! Good question, there are a number of comfort carvings that are popular as gifts for elderly residents in nursing homes and for patients in cancer treatment centers. They tend to be small, relatively stylized carvings of animals. For example, comfort birds are very popular.
