It's ridiculous to me that this show doesn't get as much hype compared to other shows, I genuinely think they should greatly increase the advertising for this show. It flew right under my radar and thank god I randomly decided to watch it, Top 3 Shows of all time for me.
I think it's because of "Vikings", now it's finished, maybe TLK will raise, I hope so.
Here in Germany its probably that its only on netflix. Vikings, GoT and Walking Dead are on every video on demand service and on TV. Still lots of people watch normal TV here so the advertisement for netflix is less and for a new tv show its pretty big.

This show deserved atleast one more season after season 5 becoz till 4th season ,the show has covered 8 books out of 13 book of Saxon Stories and in 5th season they r going to cover 9 and 10 book means 3 more books are still to covered what about that...But makers has said that season 5 will the last season.

Sharon here: Because we followed 'The Vikings', we thought we might enjoy this series. Holy Doodle - it far surpasses the brother-versus-brother Viking series. This is so plot-and-character-driven, with high production values and excellent acting, that it keeps you thoroughly engaged and yearning for more. This is the first series we have ever binge watched. Can't wait to see Season 5.

I wouldn't worry, with each season it drifts further and further away from the books so it won't spoil the plot.
this. finally, somebody that gets it. Tired of pretentious snobs always saying the books are better (not just this show btw). If that were true, then why would millions of dollars be spent to make a lesser product? it's a totally different experience, one that is objectively better than just reading words on a page.

I would always rather see a great show end while it's still great than get dragged out into a slow and painful death, but I don't think The Last Kingdom is near that point yet. Did the director/producers choose to end it, or did they just lose their budget or something stupid like that?

Nothing compares to GOT. It was such a powerhouse, but The Last Kingdom gives us more bang for the buck. Every episode is truly entertaining and engaging. It is my favorite series. Never thought I’d say that until I watched it for the second time through. Everything about the show is just endearing.

Okay Uthred, what ever you do, make sure in season five, you make it your first priority to kick your cousins behind and get back your bebbanburg castle, Bury whatever you can find of Father Beocca, and convince athelflaed to give up her chastity since she can still rule Mercia even if she's in love with you, and also make sure it's a happy ending. I only discovered The last kingdom 3 weeks ago... have now watched all 4 seasons and can not wait for season 5. Best show I've seen in a long time, and I love the way you can check out the parts that relate to historical events. Really interesting :)
Bernard Cornwell is the brilliant author that wrote all the books all 14. Only one slip up in props that I could see. They did not have pewter tankards until late 1600's. Everything else is terrific. I know it might seem picky but I am a reenactor and these things matter. Drinking vessels would have been pottery, wood, leather and horn. There was some glass for the really rich and some metal goblets. Again if really rich you could expect some gold but not the peasants. I really hope they will continue the series because the last book only came out in 2020.

This is one of the best shows i've seen in the last decade. Every actor is top class. The story is so good. I watched 4 times and can get enough of it. And its one of those movies that it has a scene that brings tears to my eyes everytime i see it: the part where Uthred talks to the crowd when he is being banished...and speaks about Alfred.... that is the moment where the onions come and attack me.
For me it's when Uhtred takes Alfred hostage and the whole first 3 seasons go up in smoke. That was the best moment of the show for me.

Maybe they will end the show when Uhtred takes Bebbanburgh. The books continue the story of him defending it from Scots, Saxons and Danes but the show probably won't cover that and it's really sad
@@meatbagkiller7174 I think it is better this way because I don’t think I could bear seeing him getting betrayed one more time by Alfred’s kin, because I know it happens in the books. Also, he just loses more people who are close to him and that’s just sad. The author of the books hasn’t been kind to his main character. I would rather just watch him get Bebbanburg, its an ending I would be happy for and would make peace with. He is already late in taking his birth right as it is. Imagine if had put all of his brains, courage and skill in realising his dream. He would have been the Lord of the North decades ago.
The last kingdom is a program that you can watch over and over and still enjoy it , for me a good book is one you can read many times and enjoy it as is a good film or program, thanks for making this a fantastic program

I'm so happy that everyone seems to be having a blast and just seems to be a bunch of friends, it's good to see that the show won't get canceled because of the workplace environment, it always makes the show better when everyone loves doing what they're doing, so excited for season five!

Yes I felt sad when I finished it didn't know what to watch next. Thankfully I found Spartacus and I'm very happy because it's different but provides the same excitement for me.

Despite its popularity, and quality, and though I loved it and watched all 4 seasons twice, I think it's time..
The characters have run their course.
Keep in mind, the plot in this show moved quickly every episode. Packed alot into each episode.
They aren't going to continue it because in the books, a huge amount of time passes. The biggest issue is there is no realistic way to make all the actors look older, so they are gonna go a little off the path of the books and draw things to a close in this season. That's my understanding of it.
Its not making enough money. Netflix is a shitshow like that.

Yep, I'm right there with ya. I love high fantasy and medieval history, and The Last Kingdom combines those perfectly. I hate seeing a great show get dragged out for too many seasons (like what happened to Dexter) but TLK isn't at that point yet.
@@David_Fellner I totally agree with you about everything. Including on Dexter, that show for sure could have concluded so earlier than it did. But with TLK, I am finding that it just gets better with each season. It would be nice for the story to have a good ending. And so I hope, that since this is the last season, that it will wrap up the story nicely and give it a conclusion TLK deserves (we don't need another GOT fail 🙈).

@lavie_t I had the same idea If enough people sign and bombard the with email or complaints it can happen. I have seen other shows get huge backlash and then get another season. Last Kingdom of all shows should definitely get a complete story. They should add a 6th season as the final season with episodes covering the last 3 books (11-13) with 15 episodes instead of 10.

This is the final season. It won't cover books 11 to 13. Which is fine, given that season 3 was the best one and it deviated pretty hard in season 4 and wasn't as strong. Better to end on a high note than go the Vikings route....
@@lanycera Every show deviates from the book a lot, I think season 4 was pretty good. And like you said, season 5 ending on book 10 with Uhtred taking back Bebbanburg is a worthy ending, and pretty good one for the show.

They are on book 6 or 7 and saxon stories which are the books thats based on. Should have extended to seaosn 6 or 7. But netflix cancelled the show with season 5 they will time jump i feel and show the the last two books. Which is sad.

They just cancelled it. I haven't watched it but I heard it's good. I'm just wondering WHY does Netflix cancels all shows that look somewhat good.
Season 5 is the last season because the books it’s made from end.

There are 13 books in the series... season 5 takes us thru to the end of book 10 i believe... they could do 2-3more seasons!! Im so upset Netflix cancelled this show!! It’s the BEST series on Netflix!!
Word on the street is they cancelled a bunch of shows in order to fund their new reality tv show about social media influencers 🙄 it’s unfortunate
