Critical Role Q&A | MCM London Comic Con

- Опубликовано: 13 сен 2024
- The cast of the wonderful web series Critical Role joined us at MCM Comic Con London for an hour long Q&A session on all things Dungeons & Dragons.
Dungeon master Matthew Mercer took to the stage with Marisha Ray, Liam O'Brien, Talisien Jaffe, Sam Riegel and Brian Foster to meet thousands of our fans and answer all their questions on everything from how to be a great dungeon master to what their favourite critical role campaign was.
We were thrilled to have these Critical Role members join us and to see the happy faces of thousands of Critters!
If you'd like to join us for MCM Comic Con next time, you can get tickets for our Birmingham show here: bit.ly/2RnBUyc
nice to have a way to find out what matt actually answered me because I kinda had to focus on not fainting
Just listened to that part. Must have been a rush meeting them all in person
I always like to think I'd be like iron, as I am typically one ballsy bitch. I call people out on their bullshit all the time...
Anyway, I like to think I'm that strong, but somehow I feel like meeting so many of my heroes in one spot would make me break down. I'd probably just stsrt drooling and babbling gibberish.
@@Silindistani it was! Especially the autograph sessions the next day! Liam is the nicest person and gives the warmest hugs! Hope you can meet them some day, too!
Yeah, I think you made Marisha's day. You could see how happy she was. 😊
Your question was my favorite of the whole panel, I loved both of their reactions so much. Und dein Cosplay sieht super cute aus
Matt - What else can I throw at you? High level druids man.
Me - A cliff.
but the trick is you don't throw a cliff at the druid, you wait for the druid to throw themselves off the cliff haha
Doors don't care what level you are
@@marcusalm7350 What I found out is that the true final bosses are bridges and walls. :D
I like to create an opposing party of the same level as my players to oppose them. Or surround the final boss with it.
But I play RM, not DnD, so it is less of a problem- noone is immune in RM.
More specifically, a sloped cliff.
the person matt pointed at at around 7:47 was me in my caduceus cosplay, and i am still not over it, damn near fainted
Still not over it?
@@lizzyobrien2376 nope
So glad the logo was kept on screen while the cast came out. It's not like I came here to see them or anything.
Yeah I agree! One of my favorite parts is watching them come out on stage :(
Go over to the Critical Scope channel to see them come on~
Yup annoying
MCM grossly underestimated how popular they would be. They were the main reason I came and I wound up getting turned away :(
Same :( I didn't even get to see them once cuz A) I knew nothing about booking up for signatures, and B) the line got into the stage area and then beyond to halfway across the massive hall. At least seeing them was my main goal and I already had a bad day due to the jubilee line being down, so I didn't like being turned away even though I understood why
I got int the stage hall 3 hours early but there was still only standing room. It was absolutely chock full.
I bought the tickets as a birthday present for my brother, we got to the stage in plenty of time and were still turned away. Was so poorly planned. Staff just screaming at the crowd...
@@callumnun same here, for me the tickets were my birthday present, but I was later to the main stage due to them originally being scheduled for the live stage. When I finally found the main stage the queue was snaking around the hall.
Taliesin: "Boy, I really love chaos magic"
Now, for campaign 3 it makes perfect sense 👀
13:19 Yeah, that chant was all the people being turned away from the panel cos it was full. It didn't get ugly or anything, but the organizers vastly underestimated how many Critters there were going to be.
The only reason it didn't get ugly is because how incredibly loving the community is! A more hysterical community and they would have had police involved.
@@JellyMotion Oh, for sure. Absolutely.
That's insane. There are so many critters around the world. now they know for next time.
yeah we were just outside, whilst i didnt chant myself there were quite a few fully tooled up cosplayers, some from overseas, absolutely gutted to have turned up an hour before the stage opened only to not even be told a good reason why they couldnt be let in, or why there wasnt a screen showing what was going on - and tbqh, they just wanted to show some love and were shouting 'crit role'. It wasnt angry, it was just kind of a ... melancholic sad paper aeroplane thrown to a crush
@@mf-h3659 I was there 2 hours prior! Looked like anyone who went to the photo meet didnt get in either
Welcome to “How to take praise from so many wonderful accents!”
"BABY IS NOT A DUMP STAT"
/r/nocontext
McM had no idea what they were doing. Only half of the critters got to see the panel and a lot of them travelled from long distances just to see them. We were robbed because McM underestimated us. Can we PLEASE have our own convention? Critcon would have more than enough people to support it financially and I'm sure that the cast would love it as well. For now, the European critters are just gonna have to play Russian roulette when paying a lot of money and travelling long distances.
It's not the cast's fault, from what I heard they too were confused at the lack of organisation.
#Critcon has to be a thing! Even if it only happens in America, I'd be willing to travel there for a Critcon.
I almost don't want to watch the video because its so painful knowing I travelled and paid so much to see a cast who helped me through my years of depression just to be shot down my MCM's horrific management. I hope the cast realises this.
@@somethingblabla5720 I absolutely guarantee that they're just as upset as we are about what happened. Time and time again conventions underestimate just how big Critical Role is, but there's not a lot the crew can do about it other than insist, "no, seriously, we need the biggest room you have!"
I just hope that MCM is a lesson for all future conventions. :/
My girlfriend and I flew in from Germany and drove 9 hours just for the panel just to be turned away after waiting in line for an hour. That was heartbreaking and we sat through all panels on sunday to see the second panel. I hope next time you come to Europe, everyone will know better than underestimate European critters. That was us shouting outside btw. Please bring merch next time as well. I loved the wonderful critters we got to meet especially at the fan meet-up.
the first non-malaysian All Work No Play fans
They probably originated from Malaysia but moved to other countries soon after birth
@@samoclese6435 I can confirm as the guy the who first mentioned it in this video that I am not of malaysian decent haha
ULTIMATE CALLBACK
I swear the IT guy they had in London was so lost apparently lol
A privilege to have snuck in the back of the main stage to catch this. Amazing. :)
its so awesome to see marisha so emotionally touched.
I wonder what Matt was thinking at 11:36 when Liam referenced a particular Archfey
Went to mcm to meet the cast and go to the panel. Turns out you had to pre-book just saying hi to them, autographs and pictures were extorsionate and the panel room wasent half as big as it needed to be. Mcm london really dropped the ball, wish they had a better first event in london. Awsome to see all the criters though and to realise im not alone in my addiction to the show.
its okay thomas all with time now that they understand an audience of that size exists they can plan for the future more thoroughly
MCM was a mess, we need our own convention. #Critcon please.
@@somethingblabla5720 Now THIS is an idea. 90% of those who attended Comicon this year went for Critical Role.
@@VanwoodVA Yeah, there are enough critters in Europe to hold a Critcon so imagine the size of one in America!
This is 100% spot on man! Me and my friend spent over £120 just on tickets and getting to the Con only to be told there that we wouldn't be able to meet the cast or get pictures. We only travelled from the Wirral but there were so many people who travelled from Malta, Germany, Holland, etc. who were told the exact same thing. Something that could've been avoided if MCM had publicised the pre-booking at all.
A live show in Europe would be awesome. In a venue thrice that size, at least. Heck, CR could probably fill an arena. Also, next time maybe bring some CR merch? Like, ten times as much as you think you'll sell. The demand is huge, more than you can imagine. And maybe talk some of the big trpg companies into coming too and selling their stuff there. They could have made so much money on critters buying dice and books and d&d tshirts at Comic Con and there was just... nothing. The organizers clearly had no idea what to do with Critical Role in general.
There was little, but not nothing. I myself bought a Dnd book and some dice at Comic Con.
I like to think that this was CR/MCM testing the waters: would their visit be worthwhile? I think the answer is pretty clear, and we can expect more in the future. :)
Was there sunday and they literally had no merch. Not even an empty booth where it may have once been. Also didnt get in to see the panel. Found out people had camped in the main stage all day sitting through panels they didnt even like. MCM should havs a rotation system. Its fairer. Spoke to someone who saw 4 panels just to be in for critical role. All I could think is that they took a place of someone who WANTED to see those panels because of a poor system by MCM hosts.
Also they should defo have had a screen. Its just common sense.
@@TheMusicSavage same here. I went on Sunday and wanted to either see them or get merch to get neither. So I went looking around and found some "percy dice" (regular dnd dice that were blue gold and white) if there's no merch find your own 😅😧 also people camped in the hall??? That explains why the queue got so long
I was really sad there wasn't any merch. I usually don't order because of the shipping prices but I would've straight up emptied my wallet if there was a CR merch booth there.
So at the con, I was told that someone asked for dating advice and that it was really bad and awkward. I feel that I have to disagree, even tho the question might be a bit awkward, I thought the whole situation was really adorable.
it was super cute
Honestly - the Mcree question was more awkward - Brian literally said no voice over questions. Perhaps the dude just forgot.
Awkward and bad? Dude, it was the cutest and best question in the whole Q&A. Did you see the facial expression of Matt and Marisha? The love in their eyes? There was nothing awkward with it!
I think in most cases, this is true. Coming in with seething self-loathing and lashing yourself in front of a panel for pity is typically what you get in panel questions.
Her question was direct, uplifting, and was meant equally as a compliment to Marisha and Matt as it was a legitimate question given the diversity of the critter community.
I don't think anyone thought the question was bad. I was clapping happily.
MCM please next time you have to be more aware of popularity of Critical Roll. Judging by the Cos play and the Qs on the day CR was the main even! Bigger stage more time some organisation so that the maximum amount of people who are fans get to see CR. My friend payed for a whole extra day in London tickets for Sunday and had to change her flight because she did not want to miss the panel!!! If CR are kind enough to come again next year (and I pray they will and want to do a live show)PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SPACE BIG ENOUGH PREPARED!
It was so awfully prepared, MCM had done no research and were not expecting the level of turnout. So many people missed out on seeing them, there were people crying!
If they could use the platinum hall they could fit hundreds more people
They could then use the normal hall with a screen for those that couldn’t get in to watch it live
It's par for the course with MCM, the first couple of years that Rooster Teeth showed up it was terribly managed. I figured it would be the same for CR.
i didn't get in and it was a shame so hopefully if they come back ill get another chance
Starts at the 4:05 minute (skips the not working intro video, starts with Brian explaining the rules)
Doing Sarenrae's will there

Thanks you glorious human being.
Thank you for saving me four minutes of my life!
I love Brian's name tag in the intro vid!
Who else is watching this after Undeadwood came out!?❤️
Is it just me the really wants to see the guys of critical role do a group spice girls cosplay now? I mean like, really really want it?
SOOO TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT WHAT YOU REALLY REALLY WANT
I'm calling it now. Sam would be baby spice.
So good to be able to see this. Wish I was there to have a chat with Talisien, he's made of awesome
man a lot of the questions here were so much better than the questions I saw at the Q&A's here in the states.
Did Talesin not get any questions? That's unfortunate 😥
I wanted to ask him "How did he master Molly's accent, even before Liam did."
Unless something else awesome comes up, Taliesin's excitement about Malta and the Popeye museum is my favorite part by far
Taliesin's answer to the character question at 22:12 is so good considering Ashton's abilities!! So cool to see that it happened
18:06 Matt explaining his Bob Ross approach to map making.
46:31 Best Question of the Night
I’m so happy that I got to see this but I also turned up two and a half hours early so I’m sorry to all those that didn’t. Thanks for uploading this!
I played one of the characters I'm most proud of, and he's a cleric. Egan Ulysses, quiet, speaks only when he feels he has something important to say, and ended up ruling a small town without wanting to.
I love him so much, I miss playing him..
I have such a nerd crush on Matthew Mercer......😍😍
8:41 Marisha, that was so proactive!
it's the producer in her
Hey everyone! I just wanted to take this time to say how nice it was to finally meet other Critters! Critical Role has always been a solitary hobby of mine and have no one to share it with. It was so nice to talk with others who have experienced it and love it as much as me. Hope to see you all again.
EXPLOSIONS!!!
my girlfriend and i got in at 11am. we turned around 20 minutes later and the place was packed full. feel bad for all those who showed up at 3pm for the show and got turned away
Really hope Critical Role come back for those fans who couldn't get in. Would be great if it wasn't at an MCM event as it looks like the debacle continued even inside the panel.
"I've played a lot of Clerics"
you and me both Matt, you and me both
Is it just me or do a lot of cleric players end up DMing?? Cause that has been my life.
@@SCarr8813 Makes sense because clerics often have to run around after their teammates, and DMs often have to run around after their players
I've played a lot of clerics too, but they are bloody awesome. I love how playing a "healer" in dnd is genuinely amazingly fun
@@ashu21 I'm glad you put "healer" in quotes, because... well... Jester 😂
It's a shame the mixing was bad, and apparently so was the event organizers. Happy to see the critters that were able to go enjoy!
So good to see these guys over in the UK, the only down side I saw when I attended was the poor organisational skills of MCM comic con. There was so badly organised and monitored by them that it felt that hardly anyone got to see them on the panel. MCM needs to change the way they do these panels.
A lot of people who didn't read the Q&A rules :)
It is Europe
@@Sofus. what does that have to do with anything? lol
@@yoheywhatsupyo Europe is wild chaotic and I love it
The only time I get annoyed at Critters if when they don't follow the simple rules for the Q&As.
Sofus I know it is 8 months late but your right. Europe is on fucking fire.
Matt is the biggest fucking nerd, he knows all kinds of cool shit about a ton of subjects, why? Because he just wants to be a better DM, and make the stories as real as possible - And also he just genuinely just loves to learn
Gotta love the man
Marisha's got some awesome 70s hair going on. It's rad.
Thanks for sharing this! I missed the event because it was so popular, so it's great to see it online!
Woe to you the random audience member recording in portrait mode
I hope MCM take note of this for future events. I was there on the Sunday and I heard so many critters saying they missed the panel because of meet and greets or they didn't get to do the meets and greet because the cast got whisked off to panel. It just seemed like for such a huge event, the organisers really dropped the ball. I know a lot of people who travelled a long way missed thier photo op and they've got no time scale on a refund. On the Sunday the talk got moved to the main stage from the live stage, because the live stage only had about 100 seats! Bad show MCM, especially when some fans had spent 100s to get there, get hotels and pay for autographs and photos. Must do better. Such a shame that the guys first European trip was tainted in this way.
Simona the German bad-ass. To get up in front of a crowd and ask Matt Mercer for dating tips, also coming out to a crowd...I cant think of anything that takes more guts, absolutely amazing. Hope she finds her wife.
People went to the previous panel and just stayed in their seats. Most were actual fans, but I’m pretty sure some of them were basically just there so they could say they’d been to lots of panels.
Let in the people who queued for hours!
The tables full of sad Jesters and Caduceuses were heartbreaking. And then I went back after the panel to find an orderly queue and organisation
Well done, MCM. You fixed the problem - way too late.
Matthew Mercer more like Matthew lord have Mercy this boi SWOLE
a live show in London would easily fill an O2 arena
Thanks for uploading this!
If/when they do a live show, I MUST BE THERE. 6 hours if travel be damned, still closer than the US!
Especially after seeing another Israeli critter asking a question in the panel, now I'm ASHAMED.
I definitely want to see Brian do a one-shot, especially a Deadwood one.
How dare you not show me this until now RUclips?
I hope they come to Birmingham next year! It's my dream to meet Matt Mercer!
Matt is Liam's D&D Daddy
a D&Daddy, if you will
I wish that they hadn’t put the logos on for so long. I love seeing the entrances.
God bless Simona's soul
39:30 The brian Foster one shot is base on the Bachelor. Hahahah
It doesn't need to make sense, they can be MAGIC rivers.

guys line up mate in Britain we have a special talent for lines.
Props to louis for keeping it together
I’m so sorry to the people who got turned away! I would have been so upset. :/
Can't even imagine all that positive energy in that room, ha!
If they do a live episode of Critical Role at MCM next year, I'm there!
They gotta come back to England soon
I would play the HELL out of a Spice Girl RPG
here's an idea of who could host Brian's between the sheets. See if Anna Prosser-Robinson is available. She's done hosting before
Great to finally see what was being said in the pannel as i was among the many who couldn't get in, but fortunatly for me crit role wasn't the only reason why i went to MCM (hence why i was deffo not getting in as i was waiting for a pair of lovley comic creators to return to their set-up instead of queuing for 2+hours) and my friend dressed as percy got his photo with Talison at 6... which also lead to another funny story of how his percy prop pistol was confiscated by security for being to heavy and he would have to pick it up before 6pm, the only problem being that Talison photos opened at 6 and he had his one booked, so i honourably volunteered to pick up his prop from security and then had to wait outside in the freezing cold until him and his girlfriend came back from the photo shoot. 1 hour in the cold later and i was tempted to just go home with the next person dressed as Percy. luckily my friend finally turned up and said that all my drinks for the rest of the night were on him (which was good as london prices are criminal... now how do i get him to extend this gratitude to our dnd campaign where he's the DM and i'm a discworld-esq wizard fucking everything up... hmmmmmm) :P
I don't know why they think there isn't a Brian W Foster in Exandria. Have we forgotten Liam Las Vegas?
7:47 Not seeing when they raised the sign, I thought that Liam being inappropriate for a moment.
21:25 Damn! Look at these faces!! HAHAHA that guy just asked such a hard question.
Just have Matt playing as Victor or Gilmore do the Between the Sheets with Brian!
Splash damage instantly reminded me of splash damage studio.
This was a good Q&A. Europe, you did a good job lol
Wow, that was so sweet :) Also Liam is a treasure.
I feel like the US Critters had finally, slowly learned how not to drone on and/or ask cringey questions... and now they come to Europe and we have not figured that out yet.
i want brians jacket looks so cool
does anybody know how its called or where i can find it ?
Thanks!
A live show would have been awesome however the show was ruined by the people not learning from previous show that the area was not large enough and I felt sorry for fans who had queued for over 1.5 hours to be turned away yet again as large areas/unit were vacant but not utilised and no screening for those unable to get into the so called main stage. I myself and grateful for the staff who tried to filter others in and although missed most of the show was able to see the last 25 minutes.
Over all the event and coss player were awesome just so down at missing the first part of the show.
"had queued for over 1.5 hours to be turned away" I and my group had gone especially to see this and missed it exactly because of this. Was a great day and amazing to meet my party in real life but I feel that MCM let down a lot of people. Fingers Crossed that next time CR come over things will be better organised
So... Spice World is a PlayStation is a game where you can play as the Spice Girls
Fucking amazing
MCM really dropped the direction/editing part of this panel lol.
Liam O'Brien navigator for German market when?
MCM - Don't mess up this time i.e. anyone who has a priority ticket - Weekend or Sunday gets in. *Once those tickets have been sold that's it regarding numbers*
Preach, me and my brother are going especially for the panel and photo ops with these legends, hopefully the fact that they've gotten such a big arena for the live show during the week means MCM will appreciate the sheer volume of critters they can expect
I didn't realize Beau was D&D Jessica Jones, my last RPG character was basically Star Wars Jessica Jones, haha.
Matt Mercer and Brian Foster panel.
I want that spice world one shot.
So glad I was there
I almost feel that Brian and Ashley could share Yasha since Ashley is gone for work so often
As much as I like Travis running a barbarian, this is a great idea!
She missed the moment to ask Sam if he spiced 😭😂
" to see the happy faces of thousands of Critters!"
Not to mention the heartbroken ones of thousands of others :D
But who cares because they are losers! Yay!
Edit: Kidding. You guys are all lucky for even getting to be in the same room as them...and I'm just jealous because I've been a fan for ever. Well since late 2015
@@KitKatWiffleBallBat I didnt get in, and I was there 2 hours early! Sad times and no apology yet from MCM, obviously not crit role's fault at all!
Yeah just as many people who got in were also turned away, mcm was really unprepared for all the criters
@@JellyMotion No wayyy! That totally sucks! You got close once, maybe you can do it again? Come hell or high water, ice wall, or oceans of flame, you will make it AND GIVE THEM HUGS, BY GOLLY! 😬
I went to the panel 2 hours earlier and it was full already, I wasn't allowed inside even though there was room on the floor to sit. MCM hasn't apologised yet for their huge mistakes in managing the event and I really want to hear the cast talk on the matter.
So that's the pannel I didn't manage to get in the room to see...
you were not alone.
I think 1/4 of critters attending got to see it and the rest were consoling each other outside because MCM didn't let us in... we need a #Critcon ffs
Artificer Bryan would be awesome.
Ok internet. Anyone know where I can buy Brian's jacket?
*_Magic Rivers_*
I loved this
Seems so long ago! Please come back soon!
South Africa comicon next!
speaking of which anyone looking for players for dnd? online of course
Looks like it was great sad I wasn't able to make it
Even if you did get there, you'd have to pay extra for priority entrance and as soon as you get in wait the 6 hours in the pannel hall until the show starts because there is no other way to get a seat. It was chaos. MCM was out of its league. Hopefully this proves that we deserve a #Critcon though.
Christ MCM guys, that start was embarrassing. How do you fail to play a video twice, have a hype-guy who sounds like he has less desire to be there than CineWorld (who obviously didn't help with projecting), and whatever the heck is up with the editing???
2/10, do better. Won't be doing another MCM with CR coming, hopefully they can do more events in the UK that respect them even a little bit.
No working mic for the DM.....
Putting up a splash screen throughout the entirety of the cast coming out onto the stage...
MCM was terrible at handling the whole event, so many critters were denied entry to the panel and wernt allowed to sit on the floor to watch. I hope Critical Role find a better place.
@@AngusHamilton1991 Right?! The heck was that about?
