if you want to be a petroleum engineer, you can study chemical engineer or mechanical engineer...I just found out the university of Zulu Land has a new engineering department and they offer BEng NQF level 8 qualifications...they offer mechanical, electrical and computer engineering.

Chemical engineering industry is becoming saturated. You will find that most chemical engineer works in wastewater and potable water treatment plants. Some works in banks, so it very rear to find job in petroleum industries. Best this is too choose a chemical engineering university that also offers a branch of mineral processing (mining) like Stellenbosch, UKZN, NW and Wirtz. Mineral processing is the fastest growing branch of chemical engineering and money is also there.
