    Another Quick Tip to Make your day a little less complicated!
    ~-~~-~~~-~~-~
    The difference between baking soda and washing soda is water and carbon dioxide. Seriously. Baking soda's chemical makeup is NaHCO3 (1 sodium, 1 hydrogen, one carbon, and 3 oxygen molecules). Washing soda's chemical makeup is Na2CO3 (2 sodium, 1 carbon, and 3 oxygen molecules). When baking soda is heated up to high temperatures, it breaks down to become washing soda, water steam, and carbon dioxide.

    TIP: tired of paying for stain cleaner that is costly/works sporadically/full of chemicals/soak time? my friend worked for an industrial laundry years ago and showed me their secret to removing ANY stain cheap. plain (not the new fancy stuff) rock salt! just a handful in your load with less soap will destroy stains especially grease. they would service shop mechanics/restaurant whites/and small business' uniforms/shop towels that looked like there was no hope to come clean. buy it in the summer when it's dirt" cheap". it also softens clothes and no oder! i' have kept a bag by my washer for 25 years.

    Real washing soda is sodium carbonate.
    Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate.
    The heating drives off carbon dioxide as well as some excess water, if it is truly converting it to real washing soda.
    And your recipe should do just that.

    I can still find Arm & Hammer Washing Soda at Walmart. Here's my little recipe for making my own laundry detergent:
    1 4-lb box Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, 1 box 20 Mule Team Borax, 3 bars Fels Naptha bar soap...grate in food processor, then use regular bottom blade and process til fine, 1 3-lb tub Oxi-Clean, OPTIONAL: A container of those Un-Stoppables, choose your own fragrance
    This makes enough laundry detergent to last for a long, long time, and works out for me to 8-cents per load!

      @maryclendenin8565 8 лет назад +1

      I take all the ingredients and dump them in a big trash bag and "roll" it around to mix thoroughly. Then I store in a big bucket. It's just like regular powdered laundry detergent and smells so good. Plus my clothes come out so much brighter. I only use about 4-6 TBLSP a load. I'll never spend $12-14 for laundry detergent again!

Hardware stores sometimes have it in bulk (both baking soda and washing soda) but it is more expensive.

    You taught us all how to make our own washing liquid or powder so we keep the store shelves empty when we see it. Thank goodness I have some, just too hot to turn that oven on. Wonder if you could dry it out in the dehydrator, or maybe the fan would blow it around. I have an older dehydrator I use for non food items, I might just try it. Also, I make my trays, like the food roll up ones out of the plastic cutting boards from the DT to use on non food items. (2 in a pack for $1 and you can cut with sissors). If it is cheaper than the washing soda, may be making my own. You are one cool cookie, yes even in the summer time. Thanks for sharing.

    • @OurHalfAcreHomestead

    I just want to let everyone know that Baking Soda vs Washing Soda are two different chemically made items. However, we can use Baking Soda to make a substance that is very similar to Washing Soda. Washing Soda cannot be eaten like Baking Soda can. Simply because of the fact that they truly are chemically 2 different things.
    You can substitute Baking Soda(Sodium bicarbonate) for Washing Soda(Sodium carbonate) like this, to make your soap & such, but you cannot substitute Washing Soda for Baking Soda.
    ~Green Blessings

    • @OurHalfAcreHomestead
      @OurHalfAcreHomestead  8 лет назад +1

      NO you cannot eat washing soda instead of baking soda..I thought I made that clear..forgive me if I did not. but you can't just substitute baking soda in your wash for washing soda..it has to be baked BEFORE it BECOMES washing soda.

    • @SansaStarkofWinterfell
      @SansaStarkofWinterfell 8 лет назад

      Oh No, Please don't think I was trying to say you didn't make it clear ma'am. I just want people to pay attention and realize that yes, You can use baking soda in place of washing soda. But, it doesn't work the other way around. *So* it really isn't a "washing soda" per se, but a replacement able to do the job of Washing Soda.
      Know what I mean? 😊
      ~Green Blessings to you.
      🕉Tina
