I was about 10 when this film released. It ran for one year in Chennai (then Madras). Many of us sang the lines of all the songs without knowing even a word of Hindi! With the aid of "film song books" that had the words phonetically printed in Tamil. Someone had to translate the meanings for us!

Super super hit film and song of our college days which made Khanna Rajesh as first super star of film industry in India.🌹
Though it is a very famous song, I have not seen or heard it for years. I came here after seeing the FB post of a friend, who has knowledge about movie cameras, in Tamil, through a link he had given there. And saw the clip through new eyes. I give a rough translation of what he said:
"More than the storyline and the songs, I marvel at the way the entire film is picturized. In bright sunlight there will be a lot of shadows, which will keep changing as the sun 's position keeps changing. Concealing the shadows with a lot of lamps (lighting), entire film must have been shot with the aid of a light meter, without losing an iota of focus. In color. In those days it was not possible to review what was shot immediately. The film must be developed in a lab, mounted on a projector to see the rush. There must have been a lab in or near Darjeeling; otherwise it would not have been possible to take each roll to Mumbai or Delhi. It must have been like walking on a knife's edge, one small mistake and all that was shot would go waste.
Remember, it is the responsibility of the cameraman, and his alone. The sunlight at hill stations will be slightly bluish in the morning. And slightly reddish in the afternoons. The low temperature is the culprit for this. So color temperature correction is inevitable. The cameraman has to decide what color film (Hindustan/Kodak/Konica/Technicolor/Gaeva/Orwo) will be suitable for the purpose and location at the very outset. So it is obvious the cameraman of this film was very intelligent and very very experienced, to give such crystal clear images in pleasing color.
A lot of cameramen while filming in the hill stations will employ plenty of long shots and take panoramas. Because the background will inevitably be so beautiful. But the Aradhana cameraman has broken all the rules, was revolutionary. He has completed almost the entire film in tight closeups/closeups/mid shots. I don't know how the director accepted this. But after the mega success of the film, it might have been taught as a lesson for future cameramen.
Remember that in cameras of those days which used film, after a scene is shot, no color correction can be done in the lab, unlike today's cameras and technology. So if you watch closely, lot of old films will flounder in color grading. As the movie proceeds, the scenes will slightly go to greenish/brownish tinges and then back again. Today we can take a raw footage and then color correct it in VFX Post Processing. And use a lot of HDR technology and give the footage an entirely new look. Not possible in those days! Cameraman of Aradhana must have memorized and mastered color grading technique for many years, and used it to color grade the entire film naturally! He must have used plenty of lighting, and so must have ensured the color temperature of all the scenes remained at 5500k. It is quite a wonder!"
Note : I am not at all knowledgeable about cameras, so I may not be very perfect in the translation of technical terms, but there it is!
After reading this comment, I again saw the whole clip minutely. Though I am also a layman about photography & cameras yet I think what is written is absolutely correct. Real masterpiece in all respect cinematography, music, lyrics, direction, acting, outfits. Whole team behind the song & film is great 👍🙏
Hats off to the cameraman. I always wondered about the color and camera work in this movie. In fact i used to wonder why even subsequent movies did not have this quality though technology must have improved.
