This is one of the best roguelike fantasy 2D dungeon crawlers I've ever played and I've played far too many of them. Although one critique on this... Critique. Dungeonman's the class is not a super hard and useless class, it's actually the best choice in the game to start with once you know anything about the game. (Arguably even if you don't) The exact opposite of what you were saying it was. =P
I actually backed this game in kickstarter, and then never played it cause it joined the giant backlog of other games in my steam library. Gonna move it up the queue a bit and hopefully give it a shot soon.
Exactly what I just posted, lol (I think in the summer sale it was 80% off steam price. I still think you can get with a minor/major donation elsewhere).
"There's 2 steps to become the ultimate content creator.. Never read comments on RUclips.. Game volume can never be turned down enough.. Never make a series or full play through" ~ SplatterCat 2021

I had to pause for like 10 minutes to breathe after 20:16 That joke came out of nowhere and I'm barely holding back a smile right now. That's the splatty humor I subscribed for. Wish my job allowed me to play more of these game. Will definitely have to see if I can find time for this one tho.
I just discovered your channel and have been binge watching all of your indie game spotlight videos. Really has helped pass the time while I get over COVID so thanks for that!
You've got some of the best, most intelligent and humorous dialogue of basically any other content creator on this platform! I love just watching and listening to all the funny and interesting things you say throughout your videos. Makes them much better than your competitors. Great job and keep up the good work! I've been binging your content lately and I hope to catch one of your twitch streams for the first time soon! ✌🏻
@ 7:11 A full 50% bonus information content there from Mr Splatty. Awesome! 🤣 Great humour in this game! 😄 Telling the guy who's trying to blow you up to get a refund @29:51 for his vowels is brilliant. 🤣 M 🦘🏏😎
Thanks! I was dying trying to remember the name of that game. Looks like nostalgia for Castle of the Winds was the inspiration for this game. Seeing the exit to the starting area confirmed it for me. This is lovely.
Love the sense of humour, Real Armour is a great skill name. You should try Spire's End the boardgame Splatty, it's like a boardgame roguelike and I think you'd dig it.
this game started as what is now called an auto-battler on Kongregate, back when auto-games were new, but I can only tell really cause the academy uses that games field
Always nice to see Tales of Maj'Eyal get some competition to breed better content and features. Tho this game is much more limited in characters to make it seems, with only 6 classes. Where as Tales of Maj'Eyal has like 30 classes and 20 races or something like that. Never really counted. Man, I should really go back and replay Tales of Maj'Eyal again.
Splat, if you like ToME (4), you really, really need to try ToME 2, which is an older version and substantially better. They reworked it because there was some trouble with the estates of Tolkien, given that ToME2 was almost completely based on LOTR. It may involve a bit of digging around to find it, but it's totally worth it.
Speaking of open world roguelike/lite, I'm soooo hyped for Streets of Rogue's open world sequel and it's been killing me cause it's probably not coming anytime soon.
"There's TWO steps to become an ultimate warrior, scream louder, hit harder and charge faster" splatter at 2021
Spoken like a true warrior.
Aren't those 3 steps? Then again, finer details are usually not part of becoming the ultimate warrior.
INT is a dump stat for Warriors
Counting isn’t among the essential skills.
First thing I thought of was ...that’s 3 not 2
Monsters in dungeons tend to be curators of antique vases, that’s why they’re so pissed off when random dudes come in and break them all….

The tongue in cheek tone pairs perfectly with the classic structure of the game, it keeps things familiar but fresh and fun.

#RealGamerProblems
I did the same for Children of Zodiarcs.
I'm sure I remember playing this about 7 years ago. Surprised to see it here now.
Edit: Checked my Steam library. Last played 4 Jan 2015
Exactly what I just posted, lol
(I think in the summer sale it was 80% off steam price. I still think you can get with a minor/major donation elsewhere).
Steam is singlehandedly the reason why my paycheck doesn’t go as far as it should. :(
Man, I'd love to see a regular roguelike series going, like once a week or something. Stream VODs, if nothing else.
it's cool that you aren't railroaded to your death and can instead go back to the academy, rare to see that in a roguelike
Just when you get into it “alright we’ll find out next time “ 😭
And there is rarely a next time.

I will forever charge into battle screaming “by the powerful pectorals of Uklangor”
A reference to M&W’s Vectron?

Guess what: CotW is one of the major inspirations for the game. :)
@@Utoxin That's awesome.
made me think of CotW immediately.
Ended up grabbing this and Caves of Qud. I know very little about both games but they hit my nostalgia receptors.

I'm looking forward to the sequel that takes place entirely in 1970's Cuba.
Dungeonmang
splayt: shields are for 🤓
me: oof
Dungeonmans
Take me by the hands.
Lead me to the dungeans.
That you understands.
I bought it after just seeing this. This game is a wonderful experience!
“My grandmother died to a wanker” didn’t see that coming lol
Looks like a great game, I'll be checking this one out for sure
One of my favorite games. Sunk many hours into becoming the most MANS
New players should remember to scroll down the skills tab to access even more classes skills.
You know you're a badass when you walk around with a sword but then choose to headbutt everything to death lol.
I just discovered your channel and have been binge watching all of your indie game spotlight videos. Really has helped pass the time while I get over COVID so thanks for that!
This looks really cool. It would be nice to see your character appearance change when you equip gear though :-/
I love this guy's humor. His jokes about nerds and 2 steps to success were hilarious.
'Light armor, medium armor and real armor' sounds about right lmao

Omg this reminds me of a game i played when i was a kid called: "Castle of the winds" it's a 1993 rogue-like rpg with very similar world overview
Yup!
Other recommendations if you like CoTW:
“Rogue’s tale”
Castle of the winds was amazing!!!
Oh god there's a perk to eat books lol. Reminds me of that star trek TNG episode where Q says to Worf "eat any good books lately?" Hahaha
This looks like a lot of fun, I think I will be picking this up after work, and before the wife wakes from her nap haha
And I was right. After a few horrible deaths. I got into the groove of things, and am having immense fun in the game
Dungeonmans, I've been a fan of this, Dwarf Fortress, and my favorite Caves of Qud. What's taken so long Splat!?
He's played this game on the channel at least twice before.
The first time I played this game was 33 years ago.
Major thumbs up for Iron Maiden font on "to adventure" 🤣
Google translate: "cave" -> Beware; "cautus" -> Caution; "custoditi" -> Protection
We were going for Careful, Cautious, On Guard and that's pretty close.
i love that "Pay to lose" tag

As someone who has been working on making an RPG from scratch in python I have a new appreciation for projects like this.
T.O.M.E. and Dungeonmans are my two favorite games of all time.

Cold Steel makes a few two handed folding knives.
That right there is called a triger.
I lost it lmao
super great episode, this game is full of energy!
Love these games their so fun and I'd love to see you play this more splat
Are you going to stream this game?
Shield? Yeah that is for the cleric, unless the cleric can also wield 2-handers
You really love treasure,Yes you are.

feels a little like a full rpgmaker reskin/custom set
I only needed to see the triger in order to know I want this game, LOL!
One of the best games of the type, right with Dungeons of Dredmore.
Which Dredmore had a sequel :/
@@nigl2807 No, sequel was never finished, nor will it be.

Ar you gonna stream this game?
No idea if anyone ever told you this but the latin 15:25 means "Be careful, be careful, be careful"
Why dont I have this!!! THIS IS AMAZING!
Same vibe as Tales of MajEyal. A really deep version of this. But will play this for sure!
this game started as what is now called an auto-battler on Kongregate, back when auto-games were new, but I can only tell really cause the academy uses that games field
This is just like Aethra's Chronicles (1994), which makes me happy. Great to play basically the same game, but without emulator.
U play as escanor? That's awesome !

This game is utterly perfect.
@22:42 he equip a magic armor with an aura, but his shoe's magic aura get snuffed, Strange.
Does one invalidate the other?
Dungeons are just villages for monsters. they just chilling at home and boom, home intruderer murdering all their friends
Reminder that Psychomanser is OP as all hell
Didn’t Homestar Runner come out with a game called Dungeon Man like 20 years ago?
This looks really neat!
But why does it require 4 Gigs of RAM?
when he equipped the hammer the character sprite weapon stayed the same?!
Why?
I could have sworn it was tongue and cheek. The more you know.
'2 mins ago', damn, never been this quick to a video. Not even on notifications.
It would be so good if the characters appearance changed
The way you stared at that stamina potion and didn't take it. It really hurt me.
"scroll of ignore laughable projektiles" lmao
You MUST try Jupiter Hell if you have not already done so. It's fast, exciting AND turn-based. Hard to explain, great to play.

Damn, the 1st boss drops a hammer and it just gets left behind.
do you need to use mouse :(
So part 2 splat right
Nice vid bro :)
Is this the spiritual successor to Castle of the Winds? :D
