Also, extremely gutsy move from Cora in terms of having Tony Renda pinch run for Sandy Leon. Pretty much went all out with that decision in terms of trying to end the game right there.
The Red Sox smart and strategical baserunning and the fact that the Red Sox lead the league in stolen bases is really not being appreciated or even acknowledged really. Sox are 5th in MLB in home runs, they have the best defensive outfield in the game, and the best batting averages. The Red Sox are just very solid and dominant in almost every aspect of the game, and that's the difference.
The bullpen is still the team's big weakness, and it's one that Dombrowski did not address at the trade deadline. And for all their timely steals and aggressive baserunning, they've still run into more outs than any other team in the majors. That 8-run rally in the 4th inning of Game 1 all started on a bad mistake by Bradley Jr. that happened to work out because Holder forgot (or was never taught) how to actually get someone out when you have them caught in a rundown.
Dreamline78 I agree that the bullpen is the Red Sox main and possibly only flaw, I was disappointed that they didn’t get that reliever at the deadline, and last night even we saw Kimbrel, Thornburg, and others be shaky against the Jays but thankfully our offense bailed them out in the extra inning win. As for our base runners running into outs: to this point we have scored a good bit more runs than anyone in baseball so I think the gambling has certainly payed off more than not. And yes the rally started on a Yankee miscue but then the Red Sox capitalized on it, which they’ve been doing all year.
Just like we did when you were better. Just think of it as an incentive to up your game. The biggest reason the Red Sox and Yankees are two of the best teams in the decision is the primal NEED to beat each other. That's what rivalry does for the sport.
Well imma Yankees fan but i give alot of credit to the redsox front office for changing the culture and philosophy of the sox make up. Before the team was a all power line up now its a grind it out team with a excellent game plan . Cashman & the Steinbrenners have def. Messed up with the homerun or nothing mindset. Much respect to the redsox ,congrats on a great season
That's Yankee 'fans.' Those of us real fans know the Red Sox are simply the better team right now. I get no joy from saying that, in fact it annoys me beyond belief to type that. But I'm 35 and I try to be as real as possible in all aspects of life. How anybody with even a slight knowledge of baseball could right now try to pretend the Yankees, or any team, is in the same class as the Red Sox is beyond me. We'll see what happens in October, but the Red Sox have the most balanced team. It's just facts.
As a Sox fan I love hearing A-Rod say “oh no” when there was the error on the 3rd basemen and when the ball got through to win the game. People say he’s a good caster, but he just roots for the Yankees the whole time with backhanded compliments to the Red Sox
The Red Sox swept the Yankees in a 4-game series at Fenway Park for the 2nd time in 3 seasons and for just the 3rd time in the last 48 seasons (6/4/90-6/7/90 and 9/15/16-9/18/16). Man, the way they handled the Yankees is reminiscent to their ALCS comeback in 2004.
NEW YORKS FINEST I really don't care since I'm not a Yankee or Red Sox fan. Just reminding you of the facts. And stop with the played out 27 rings comment. Every loss the Yankees suffer, that's what you New York crumbs resort to. Weak.
NEW YORKS FINEST Bro no one cares about that the Red Sox owned Rivera’s ass many times and now they got their asses kicked once again. Don’t hate just deal with it
What are you talking about? That’s NOTHING like the 2004 alcs comeback. We had been getting schooled, demolished and roundly humiliated three games in a row. Then clawed, tooth and nail up the side of the canyon in a feat that had never been accomplished to take the last four. It was the most harrowing week in the history of Boston sports. I was 20 at the time and even MY heart almost couldn’t handle it. I don’t give a fuck what happens now or 50 years from now. Nothing will ever come close to the drama that was the 2004 alcs.
I was in Boston at that time and it was so late I was asleep in a hotel yet when I woke up I heard the Red Sox swept the Yankees and I’m like WHAAAAA, then I watched this later that day.
TheDieHardWWEAddict. I’m not a Red Sox fan but Eduardo Rodriguez has been out for 2 months and pedroia has played like 2 games all year. The Red Sox just swept without Chris sale that’s a good sign for them
Sale on the DL, Vazquez on the DL, Swihart on the DL, Erod on the DL, Kinsler on the DL, Devers on the DL, Pedroia out for the season, Smith out for the season and the Sox still swept the series!

How does a Yankee's fan change a light bulb?............They don't. They just talk about how good the old one was.
This is the greatest comment ever
How does a Red Sox player/fan celebrate the world series before 2004? They don't, they just let the good times roll.

Nehemiah Howard They called up Dan Butler.
And with 2 out. Gutsy indeed.
Swihart was in the bench
Enrique Munir ediaztejada Swihart is injured
Can Dan Butler pinch-anything to get a catcher back in the game?

And the lack of Big Papi or coaching isnt a problem this year. Coaching isnt holding back this lineup, an even stronger lineup than last year.

Pretty cool that Xander got another shot to win the game like that after the error. What a game!!!
veeryyyyyy
You can tell JD is the best because he doesnt rely on just home runs, clutch singles are also in his repertoire
Sam Eddy one of the best all around hitters in all of baseball. Him and Mookie are the best duo in the Majors!
Yeah, I agree. Thing is, Mookie can too, and also works a count toward walks like a true legend.
Yup
Sox's strength. Real players who know the value of getting the damn ball in play. Dislike the current trend of it's all pitching and long balls.
Also, it shows faith in his teammates. He kept the line moving and gave Xander a chance to redeem himself.
