Money from Australian Football which is played on the same size ground helps us develop great cricket stadiums. It means they are used all year...not just for a few cricket games during the summer. It’s also why most grounds now use drop in wickets.
What if someone Hits a long six and the ball falls inside the boundary after colliding the roof!! Would that be considered a six or not? BTW in cricket outside environmental factors like dew, wind etc affect the game so holding a game inside a closed stadium isn't good for cricket itself.
The ball has hit the roof on three or four occasions. They have changed the rule a few times too. It used to be 6 if it hit the roof. Now I think it’s a dead ball. I think I have that the right way round. If you search RUclips there are videos of the ball hitting the roof. I think Mike Hussey did it versus the World XI in 2005.
It’s a very good point. At the problem both Melbourne drop in pitches (MCG & Marvel Stadium) are very lifeless and producing poor cricket. That’s a big issue over here at the moment.
Saw a few bbl games there in my time in aus a few years ago, including one game where the roof was closed (Melbourne Derby). The Renegades tried to hit the roof a couple times for a six that game, but failed terribly each time and were easily caught! They finished all out for under 60 I think 😂😂 a better t20 stadium than the mcg imo, which was often barely full for the bbl.
Beautiful stadium But Australia should build stadium in which only cricket should be played not other sports Cuz the pitches in Australia are dead not really helpful for bowlers
This is so true!! We’re very lucky to have these stadiums because it’s the income football generates which enables them to be built. But then football demand no centre wickets and we end up with benign drop in wickets. Unfortunately cricket doesn’t generate enough revenue in Australia to have their very own hi tech stadium.
@@DroneVictoria_au Looks like we'll have Indian wickets in Australia then ;-) Yep, cricket is exclusively summer sport, so multi purpose stadia more practical
@@DroneVictoria_au football means you mean real football or rugby and yeah i have heard rugby is very famous in australia may be more than cricket but one thing i have seen australian cricketers are much richer than Australian rugby player if rugby generates more money then why cricketers are more richer
Lovely stadium with great access and location. Helps that Aussie Rules footy has an oval pitch they can utilise both sports to make it economically viable to have stadia like this. Most cricket grounds in the UK are Victorian built so upgrades are not viable. Sharing isn’t an option either. Maybe one of the bigger grounds in England could be adapted but I doubt this would happen. Cricket in the UK is way behind the popularity of football so investment is not a high or a priority as say India or Australia.
You are spot on!! If you look at all the stadiums across Australia they are hosting a couple of international cricket games a year but football is played at major venues up to 2 or 3 times a weekend during winter. It’s absolutely football (AFL) income that makes the stadiums viable. We’re really very lucky!! Mind you one thing our stadiums lack is the charm of the English stadiums.

I am from India but I like Aussie cricket 🏟️ stadium structure at first look it's Don't seen like a cricket stadium it is like a football stadium love from India ❤️❤️😊
Yes that’s right. There was also one other three game international series played there about 10 years ago during our winter. Other than that all international games in Melbourne go to the MCG which is only 2km away.
TheJigFreak There are a number of no fly zones nearby so you’ll need to download CASA’s app for their location. If you stay out of those you can fly unless you become aware of any aircraft operating nearby.
The issue with this stadium is that current biggest cricket stadium in the world (MCG) is only 2km down the road. The MCG will always hold the Boxing Day test and international cricket in Melbourne. It seems a waste to have a stadium of the quality of Marvel Stadium not utilised for cricket. The only time it has been used for international cricket is in the middle of winter with the roof closed.
If the ball go straight above the pitch and collide with roof and fall down, so eventually there will be less chance of catch out. What will happen then 🤔

Bro why cricket australia not consider these stadium for international cricket?
The issue with this stadium is that current biggest cricket stadium in the world (MCG) is only 2km down the road. The MCG will always hold the Boxing Day test and international cricket in Melbourne. It seems a waste to have a stadium of the quality of Marvel Stadium not utilised for cricket. The only time it has been used for international cricket is in the middle of winter with the roof closed.
If the ball go straight above the pitch and collide with roof and fall down, so eventually there will be less chance of catch out. What will happen then 🤔
At the moment the rule is that in that case it is 6. Seems silly but the rule used to be dead ball. That robbed a few good shots of a six.
But why is it named the marvel cricket stadium??
Marvel sponsors the ground and pays for naming rights. The name changes every few years depending on the sponsor. It’s true name is Docklands Stadium.
Authorities will ban Gayle Russel on playing in this stadium for sure
sankalp palkar Chris Gayle actually played for the Melbourne Renegades who play home games here. He never hit the roof.
