Thanks George...Just had that same problem....New to this hobby...only on my second run (your Peach Brandy) and yes...I let it get up to temp to fast...propane hard to control and once it hits 120 ...it moves FAST. Before I knew it I was at 185...and climbing. I got it down a bit but I guess it was to late. I even stopped the run at 110 so I wouldn't get tails. The learning process never stops. Hi,thank you for your video,if you buy 96 ABV alcohol and you mix with water to 40 ABV,It is better filtering alcohol by activated carbon before distilling and making gin? The gin will be smoother?
ok so, I ran my still for the first time, I ended up with tails like you said from running too hot. (I have a fix for that). When I rerun the "shine" do I make it add up to 5 gallons again with just water, and take out my 2 oz at the beginning for foreshots again? Thanks George!
Congratulations on your 1000th subscription, keep up the good job it's viewers like me that need your advice and information so thanks for all your help and support
Thanks again Mr George. This happened to me about a yr ago. Just so happens I cut with a different water for the first time with that run also. So I dumped it back in the still and re ran it. It fixed itself but had no freaking idea what happened. Process also change I don't get buzzed and then make a run. I start a run and get buzzed half way thru when I know everything is stable. Happy distiller here. Many thanks again G.

George, running the cloudy shine through a carbon filter will make the cloudiness go away. No need to distill again. Happened to me on my last run with a half gallon of 170 proof, and it looked and tasted perfect after. Congrats on the 100K

I wanted to contact you about this. I made my first ever run and was excited to get 162 on the first jar! (Pot still) I use a PID controller. My temp never really ran constant moving up and down several degrees the entire run. I suspected I over packed the column and will cut that back for the next run. Ended up wit about 8 pints of 160 to 130 proof. When I cut it was cloudy. I did notice also a smell as I ran but thought it was normal. Now I know. Need to slow it down.
I've only ever had my distillate become cloudy when I dilute it with water.....its always crystal clear except when I water it down, itll cloud up like crazy. However, I've found that if I use store bought distilled water, itll keep its crystal clearness
Congrats George, you talked about collecting the tails, but the sprits in the jar was clear until you added the water! What did the water have to do with the sprits getting cloudy? Confused!
My 1st 2 runs on my T500 using a sugar wash turned cloudy upon dilution and never since then has it turned cloudy. I think that perhaps the column packing had some residue on it which got washed out after the 1st 2 runs.
Congrats George. This hobby has benefited so much from your knowledge and teachings. I have learnt so much and it's amazing what you taught a bonehead like me. Lol.
George I have a question. If I take the column off my pot still and set it beside it - and connect the two with a 1" stainless braided line. Insulated braided line. (Or even if I hard line it) Would you suspect I could still do a run...and get it to work...? (The backstory is, trying to reduce the height of a double keg kettle ) (and my buddy with a 2inch boka swears it won't work....) I'm not trying to get 94%....just my regular 70 - 50%.. Thanks..🥃
There are several things that can happen. First off, tails. Too much tails in a batch will make it cloudy when proofing the shine. The second is the water that you use to proof it. Use steam distilled water because specific minerals and other variables such as PH may affect the outcome. The water's mineral content could very well be the cause, but I've been told that a high PH High Lime water source is best to ferment with and proof with. I don't agree with using that to proof with, it is safest and the best result proofing with pure steam distilled water.
Hi George, I watched your video on cuts. Your tails you suggest 204 and 100p as a cut, on your heads cut you suggested holding at a certain temp? What if you can not do that? What's your abv % for their hearts cut each end. If not doing multiple jar cuts that is.. getting tired of washing 30 odd jars after mixing the middles ones together. With maybe once in a blue moon adding a head or tails cut into my heart's blend. 150p to 110p% abv or 190 to 100p abv? What's a good preference. Cheers.
I just did a gin run and I had cloudy at the start and I was doing my head in. But I soon learnt that was the heads and I ended up having perfectly clear likka til I got to 40% and hit tails! Love your work gorge!

I am excited for you too George... looking forward to that reveal
Is there a way to fix it or do you just have to run it again?
