Nightwish has never been without a wonderful lead vocalist. All different, to be sure, but each helped the band create amazing music. The two albums featuring Anette are brilliant.
This is a beautiful track. Anette at her best. MAny thanks for reacting to both a lesser heard track and an Anette track. Anette may not have the charismatic voice of Tarja, the versatility of Floor or the greatest live performance presence, but she still brought a lot to the Nightwish party.
You should definitely watch "Imaginaerum", the movie Nightwish have done with all the songs from the same named album. This song is a part of that, as well as storytime, ghost river, I want my tears back and last ride of the day and many others. It would be great as a live stream!

The first era with Tarja, which i love the most gave us five great albums and put NW in the the world of famous band worldwide. Tuomas knows the best parts of the singers as well. Check "Meadows of Heaven" - maybe the most awesome "Anette song". This one includes deep emotions of Tuomas.
I think the video from the fan was trying to reference childhood cancer. At least that’s my interpretation. Don’t give me love, pride, beauty or rest. Just give me truth instead. But I found this quote from Tuomas about the song Songfacts®: This is the only track on Imaginaerum that Nightwish keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen penned with bassist-vocalist Marco Hietala. Speaking on a track-by-track video, Holopainen pointed out that it's "kind of funny that the most poppy song on the album is composed by the most metalhead dude in the band." The song's lyrics were inspired by American author Henry David Thoreau's book Walden, which is a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings. Holopainen admitted to Metal Hammer magazine: "I have to admit it's a bit of a rip-off, because I'm a big fan of Henry David Thoreau, the poet from the 19th Century. I read his book 'Walden', where he said, 'I don't care about the love, the beauty, the pride or anything, just give me the truth. I thought there was a big philosophy behind that, and I started to think I could make a song about it. The crow represents pride, the owl wisdom and the dove love and peace."
FINALLY someone reacts to this!!! One of my favorite Anette songs (w/ Marko!) *edit: Yes that ending is a heartbreaking twist. Also, Troy does that mid male vocal section w/ the Irish tin whistle. Nightwish had a contest for the fans to make a video for the song, this creator won and rightfully so!!! It's the "Official" Nightwish video for the song.
Sabina!!! :) This is one of the most beautiful and sad Nightwish songs. I´m so happy you did this one and you put a big smile on my face but also I felt that sadness with you. I will wipe away my tears now... I loved this reaction so much!
Fascinating to see this song be your intro to Anette (with Nightwish). Most start with ‘Amaranth,’ which is very poppy, or ‘Scaretale,’ which is weird lol. Both are great songs, mind you, but this song I think really does a better job showcasing Anette. She shines on these slower, gentler songs so much.
This video won a Nuclear Blast Records contest to be the official music video for the song. Way too many people have never heard this Anette, Marko & Troy (Troy singing in the English "Cumbrian" dialect) masterpiece. As for the meaning Tuomas said: "I have to admit it's a bit of a rip-off, because I'm a big fan of Henry David Thoreau, the poet from the 19th Century. I read his book 'Walden', where he said, 'I don't care about the love, the beauty, the pride or anything, just give me the truth. Hoi Sabina, in fact the creator of this video, Petro Calvo, made it in honour of his sister wich was all her life seriously ill, she couldn't have a normal kids life tho she longed for everything other kids could do and this is what he wanted to depict in this video and because he was a nightwish fan he searched for a song that fitted the video. So he came up with the lesser known the crow, the owl and the dove. The song fitted the video magnificent and vice versa, The only very sad part about it was that his sister couldn't enjoy it because she died before it was ready..., knowing that gives this clip a very dramatic turn...
When I first heard this song it reminds me of the old movies The Last Unicorn and flight of dragons. The lyrics at first glance may appear to be simple and the song itself is folksy with a fair bit of modern thrown in. But even without the visuals you can't help the feel there is something far deeper. I don't know Thomas's original intentions with the song but every time I hear it I Cry.
fyi: this animation is the contest winner, Nightwish (or the Label?) asked their fans for their ideas. sweet and nice reaction video as always sabina, thank you for the beautiful moment. Und danke Henning, schön das du das versprechen wahr gemacht hast ! =) what about listening to the 2 Anette albums in a live "party" stream, again with henri ?
The Anette era is probably my favorite era of Nightwish, probably because she was the vocalist when I discovered them. This song ranks amongst their best.
When i saw this video at first, i shed some tears at the end. It was a mixture of cuteness and sadness. Normally I don't like the voice of anette, but thuomas has the ability to write songs for specific singers. And with this song he was successful. I love the vocals of this song, and i thought, you should listen to it. I think you enjoyed it 😀Thank you for this beautiful reaction
When I first heard this song in the album, I remember feeling pain and loss, and still to this day I feel my emotions are brought to the surface. This is one of my favourites, and no matter the line up this is nightwish.
My favorite Anette songs are "MEADOWS of HEAVEN" - the album version with the fan made video by Gonda Huisman, and "SLOW LOVE SLOW" Montreux Jazz Festival 2012. If you want to hear more of Marko's soft side, check out, (on your own, no reaction thank you) "MARKO HIETALA - LULLABY" Marko is singing Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan", accompanying himself with an acoustic guitar, to Jukka's tiny baby daughter. It is a private video. Jukka = the original Nightwish drummer. Some comments can be heard in Finnish: "Eyes get wet, she's looking so keenly/closely. Love at first sight."
Lovely Marco! Anette us much maligned. In the studio she can have a lovely voice. Not always for sure, but at her best she is really, really nice. This song shows that
As far as lyrics go, this is definitely one of the most cryptic songs in their entire discography. It is structured like it is telling a definite story, but what that story is about is very hard to discern and a lot is left up to interpretation…at least those are my thoughts. Annette’s vocals work well on this song, I’m not one to join the bashing Annette bandwagon, she deserved her place in the band. It’s a good song that works very well with the fan made video. A thoughtful reaction Sabina..that was clear to see.
Good to know you're digging into Annette era, her studio stuff with Nightwish was amazing. You should react to Scaretale, very opposite to the sweetness of this song, and Annette can surprise more of you this time.
Anette was the Queen of the studio (in my opinion) and you are right Sabina this is incredibly sweet. I've heard this before, I just can't remember when? Thank you for showing us this video. Love from Florida.
Tuomas has a beautiful way of expressing the joy of living even on the edge of death. A very deep poetic song. Each bird evokes a different part of humanity in the attributes associated with their natural traits. At the very end you see her soul sitting next to the 3 birds on the tree outside the hospital window. A truly beautiful and emotional artistic statement. appreciate every moment of life Sabina. 💖🙏
I've only heard Anette singing Scaretale (which she nailed) before. This song though was made for her and Marco to sing. I'm sure there's more symbolism in this song that we don't generally know about. Another 'soft' song you might enjoy is 'Through the Eyes of a Child' by Aurora, live at the Nidarosdomen cathedral. It's magical.
The song or the video? To the best of my knowledge, no one in Nightwish had any connection to a child that passed. (I'll be the first to admit that I don't know for sure, though.) The video was actually the winner of a contest by the record label - you can find several other fan-made videos posted by Nuclear Blast Records. But yeah, knowing that the swan guides souls to the land of the dead in Finnish mythology (as a couple other people also commented), I can easily see where the ending of this video came from - the maker of the video is Portuguese, but if they're familiar with the legend, and especially if they had a connection to a child gone too soon... the video being a memorial to the lost little one makes perfect sense.
I think the song is more related with the movie. Without revealing much the person passing away is not a child. But this interpretation is much more effective.
This specific song reminds me of the band Pure Reason Revolution from The Dark Third album. An underrated band and a fun album if you’ve never heard of them!
One of the Nightwish songs I listen to almost every day. It's such a beautiful song. This and Turn Loose the Mermaids. Another song from the Imaginaerum album well worth a listen.
Thank you for reacting this song. I never heard this before! This ist a song which they should do more in concerts. Troy and Floor maybe sing it same beatiful.
The composition is by Marko, the text by Tuomas. Tuomas probably wanted to develop the band in this direction after Tarja left. Anette is the ideal singer for this and can play to her strengths here. But it wasn't the music that made Nightwish famous and what the fans expected. And it's not particularly modern. When Tuomas realized his mistake it was too late. Tuomas couldn't fire Anette because she did what she was hired to do. She couldn't and didn't want to go along with another change of direction back to the Tarja style. The atmosphere in the band is becoming increasingly toxic and there was no way out. They race towards an abyss into which they finally fall. They had to hire a new singer who was just as broken as themselves. Tuomas uses such ideas today in Auri, his side project. AURI - Kiss The Mountain (OFFICIAL LYRICAL VIDEO)
You should definately check more her songs from Imaginaerum and Dark Passion Play albums. But stick to the studio versions. 1. Amaranth 2. Sahara 3. Cadence of her last Breath 4. Eva 5. For the heart I once had 6. Slow love slow 7. Turn loose the mermaids (my fav
The Anette era of NW also have some very good studio version songs, im not the guy not liking Anette as much as the 2 others.. Anette imo did have great studio recording quality, she did only lack on the live shows some, surely to know NW, and get all the greatness thet made, you need to include a lot of Anette songs to. Fun fact is that Tarja still did over half the NW albums released to this day, 5 of em, other 2 only did 2 each.. just a small sidenote..lol
Wonderful song and another beautiful reaction from you Sabina. I'd really love to see you react to another Annette song, Meadows of Heaven, my absolute favourite song that features Annette - here's a link to it; ruclips.net/video/vxsjv6LtRz0/видео.html
Yes it was defenitely Marko. Was not sure right away, but I could easily recognize his voice later on. He just had to sing with a very gentle voice to match the vibe of the song and not to over power Anette. He is versatile, he knows how to use his voice, depending on the song, and what is needed. Troy sings as well, on the middle part.
The Anette era in Nightwish was one of their best, Tuomas for some reason was pumping out incredible music in those days.
I agree those 2 albums are great, just shame Anette wasn't great at performing live.
Nightwish has never been without a wonderful lead vocalist. All different, to be sure, but each helped the band create amazing music. The two albums featuring Anette are brilliant.

Don’t give me love, don’t give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don’t give me love, I’ve had my share
Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead
A crow flew to me, kept its distance
Such a proud creation
I saw its soul, envied its pride
But needed nothing it had
An owl came to me, old and wise
Pierced right through my youth
I learned its ways, envied its sense
But needed nothing it had
Don’t give me love, don’t give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don’t give me love, I’ve had my share
Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead
A dove came to me, had no fear
It rested on my arm
I touched its calm, envied its love
But needed nothing it had
A swan of white, she came to me
The lake mirrored her beauty sweet
I kissed her neck, adored her grace
But needed nothing she could give
Gar tuht river, ger te rheged
Gar tuht river, ger te rheged
Gar tuht river, ger te rheged
Don’t give me love, don’t give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don’t give me love, I’ve had my share

I was very excited that you bring one of the "forgotten" songs from Nightwish. Claps for you.

You are right, I just checked an interview by Tuomas. The song is based on a book.
"Walking in the air".....one of my favorite covers with Tarja?
you can also hear Troy's voice. Floor sang this live in 2012, oh so beautiful.🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶
I want Turn Loose the Mermaids to be played at my funeral.

I listened to the two albums with Annette and they are amazing.
Beautiful song and video 😢

Anette imo did have great studio recording quality, she did only lack on the live shows some, surely to know NW, and get all the greatness thet made, you need to include a lot of Anette songs to.
Fun fact is that Tarja still did over half the NW albums released to this day, 5 of em, other 2 only did 2 each.. just a small sidenote..lol
The first time Troy sang!
You should check out " Korn " Rotting in Vain. Excellent stuff!
I believe Marko wrote this song.
Songwriters: Marko Hietala and Tuomas Holopainen
But they never tell who did what. I guess Tuomas wrote the lyrics, at least the most.
@@Idefixu Music by Marko, lyrics by Tuomas, as usual :)
I know this video and I'm reading her comments and I'm thinking.... oh boy, she is going to lose at the end
Could you react to "Rest Calm" by Nightwish? It's a bit heavier than this one, but it contains a softer parts with Anette and Marco singing together.
Did you reacted to Eva? This Song is emotional a much more.
👍🌹💖
Wonderful song and another beautiful reaction from you Sabina. I'd really love to see you react to another Annette song, Meadows of Heaven, my absolute favourite song that features Annette - here's a link to it;

Was that Marco singing in this song as it doesn't sound like him at all.
That was Marko in the chorus and Troy in the non-english part.
Iranian music😭😭😭😭
🇬🇧 Norfolk catching up with you
