Great video! Great painting! I like to paint the edges of my canvas black before doing the actual painting and then leave whatever paint spills over as I paint. I just like the final look of that

Me too! Painting them one colour can also be nice. The sides are usually just linen or white gesso for me.

Such an amazing painting! The colors are so nice. I would love to hear more about how you create and come up with your reference images :)

Thank you! I actually answered this question in studio vlog 17 (the q+a) but basically I film myself and edit screenshots digitally to make a reference image. :-)

Yessssss I'm so happy! I watched your other one multiple times so I'm really excited to add this to my 'paint with me' collection for when I want some company ^^ It's also so great that you don't just dive straight in but actually give us an explanation of your thoughts and plans for the painting you're working on. It's like you stated the desired goal, and we see you get there...eventually :D
I was actually varnishing some of my own paintings while listening to your video. I love watching the dulled darks come back to life. I never skip a varnishing video on Instagram! It's as satisfying as a tape peel.
Random but if I had to choose an absolute best bit, it's that eye with the little red above it. It's divine.

Ah I love this! Thank you :-) yeah diving right in seems weird, there’s been so many days of work on this one already so I just want to explain the setting. Video’s already long so might as well add a few minutes haha.

how do you manage to get such great lighting in your reference images?

It depends on the reference image, but I use different lamps to get different effects
