I just love how Vivaldi is always so Vivaldi.
@Malik Reinwald Why would you hack someone’s Instagram especially your girlfriends that’s kind of scummy. Have you got trust issues, bud?

Great chemistry between the two main cellists, but every single person in the orchestra seems to genuinely be enjoying being a part of this performance. One of my favorite RUclips videos I've discovered in the last year.
This is the most exciting interpretation of this piece I've ever heard. Purists may complain. Who cares. This is so fresh and unique.
Agreed. I don't know what purists would have to complain about, except the type of 'purist' that resents rhythmic freedom.
Man the tension that they build up is amazing and beautiful
What l so love about this ensemble is that they are not just musically wonderful but they are also so exciting and interesting to watch. It is always a musical drama when they perform baroque and the result is out of this world
E' per questo che la musica BAROCCA è un qualcosa di eterno e che sempre si rinnova a seconda delle esecuzioni
I remember being a violinist in orchestra. The two best cello players did this song and I admired their skill so much. Playing this on stage with them and the rest of the orchestra felt so powerful and moving. Amazing song.
The fact, that you call this masterpiece a song says everything, good that you're not playing in the orchestra anymore
@@nevermind.20. lol, but true
@@nevermind.20. I also dislike the word 'song' being misapplied in this fashion, but your comment is needlessly harsh.
Loved the bass notes from the lute
Patrick Deveraux. Indeed! Those longnecked Baroque lutes are a challenge to acquire & master. The open string bass notes are like growling of a huge predator- but blended so well.
This is one of the most refreshing renditions of this work I've heard. Extremely interesting improvisations, almost shocking sometimes, but never out of place and always with passion! Bravi.
So lovely to hear this played on baroque cellos. Beautiful mellow sound. This is how Vivaldi would have heard it.
This perfomance is close to perfection...that 3rd mov. Rocks
Vivaldi's music shakes the essence of the soul....
The most accurate and free Baroque performance I've ever seen online. Thank you🙏. This is the video I use in my class to explain Baroque music
Wow, a beautiful Concerto for _Two_ Cellos! Only a genius could compose such a thing. Oh, Vivaldi, well.
YEA, the only piece that beats it is Bach's double concerto for 2 violins performed on two cellos.
@@Thingolfin Yeah, well, for me that's comparing two archangels, one happily celebrating Human life (like Vivaldi typically does) and the other prayerfully celebrating Divine life. Gotta have them both.
@@endpc5166 I know for sure when the Angels have to Play for our Lord in heaven they have to play nothing else but Bach, but once they are amongst themselves they start playing Vivaldi;)
Magnificent! Magnificent! This is what ensemble is all about and I dig that oversized bow tie! Well done everyone and I'm sure Antonio would be proud. This is what it's all about!
I just listened to this amazing 2 cellos concert on web radio and I felt absolutely wondered, so I've looked for it on youtube to listen again, and I found this awesome performing...
THANK YOU.
Wow! Absolutely brilliant performance. Solo cellists are unbelievable! Bravissimo!
What a crazy interpretation!
They pulled it off -- hard to argue.
Beautiful work, as always! I love that particular bit at the end where they're practically headbanging because it's so intense. One of the best parts of a performance is body language. Love knowing how into a piece someone is.
I'm gonna start holding my cello like that whenever I play this piece lol
lol... for about 30 seconds you will. Then pain will set in because your modern cello's strings are tighter... you know this though ;-).
@@BetterMe981 Hi. I've been playing in a baroque orchestra for the last couple of years after finishing my cello studies, and I must say that holding the cello in the way shown in the video, as if it were a viola da gamba is not painful at all and you get used to it pretty easily. It being in contact with your legs also changes the resonance of the instrument, which gives it a more baroque-like sound.
Also, the different of posture has nothing to do with the tightness of the strings as you suggest. I play with metal strings instead of gut strings, since baroque is only a part of my repertoire. However, my stand partner plays with gut strings and, although they have a different sound and are more sensitive to temperature changes, they are not that different to play technique-wise.
Have a nice day.
@ my comment to Payton L was a playful response (easily recognized by his "lol" and my ";-)." It was in jest, acknowledging the playful silliness that one would actually not just hold a cello like that for one piece, unless they were very experienced.
To your other point, I respectfully disagree. I'm a professional cellist on both modern and baroque cellos for over 40 years. Metal strings, gut strings, posture and the setup of the instruments has everything to do with each other and pain. Our bodies become conditioned to the different styles of holding the instruments. Pain can most definitely present itself if one's body is not used to the style and different string tensions. There are books on the issue, as well as courses at university level.
As you grow and learn, keep in mind that your experience isn't everyone's.
Happy, healthy playing!
I tried once...didn’t turn out well...my friend invited me to play a baroque duet and asked me to do that for fun...
@@BetterMe981 A lovely , Civil and educated response! Very rare to see!
Ah Vivaldi... some of the most beautiful music ever!! Great rendition too!! Messer Antonio smiles from Heaven!!
Among performances of Vivaldi piece for two cellos..in particular.. their performance is the best..strong and week bit and fast and slow flow..just like drama..i love the two cello performers's deep understanding♡♡
There is a very good reason that Apollo's fire has taken hold of the early music scene. They have quite the dramatic flair as evidenced by this recording and others that they have made.
Of all the composers of classical music I think he is the most fascinating.
And , that’s sayin somethin!
I believe that if God has Jesus on his right, Vivaldi will have him in front of both to enjoy all his music and this wonderful and beautiful composition. Thanks and congratulations Apollosfirebaroque.

Vivaldi and Bach best voices of European Baroque, but Vivaldi's musical atmospheres are unics
I enjoy trhis concert again ! 💕 💕 💕
Just awesome!
Oftentimes I think of Vivaldi as the greatest of them all... and this is one of his masterpieces that push me to believe so

Thank you very much!!!!!!!
Not that it mattera when it was composed, what a cracking 11.5min concerto!!😀
Absolutely stunning!
I love that flavor each cellist throws in at 3:17
YES, I wonder if that little short octave change was improvised , because if so , that’s AMAZING.

Loved it. Period.
Nice concerto! Love from 🇻🇦!

Amazing 😄 and wonderful!
We just played that this morning with my group in concert. Its hard to slow yourself down after playing like that. Great song, but the most intense thing we've done. Waiting for the recording to come back to us
stupendi, semplicemente stupendi
Baroque cello for baroque music sound amazing!
The arch lute has such a prominent role it looks like a concerto for two cello and theorbo
Beautiful!!!!

Vivaldi wrote some great compositions.... it's a shame they weren't performing one.
Sensacional...👏👏👏.
Can we just appreciate for a moment that the cellists are not using their endpins? They really went full baroque on this one with the bows, bowholds, strings, and of course, the endpins. As a fellow cellist I can attest how much more difficult it is to have to hold the cello up with your knees.
What is the case, musically speaking, for playing without endpins? Such things as the type of bow used have an obvious effect on the music (obvious to a violinist at any rate), but I can't say the same for the lack of endpins.
@@commontater8630 without an endpin you can only use as much weight as your knees can hold into your legs and you’re also more free to move horizontally because you’re not anchored to the floor. The cello also ends up being more vertical as opposed to the more horizontal angle some cellists play with using endpins. So it changes how the cello is played and how you have to approach playing it which makes the music and style more similar to the cello playing vivaldi would’ve known
@@lulcy789 Thanks for your thoughtful and thorough explanation.
@@commontater8630it changes the timbre and resonance of the instrument to a more mellow sound. :)
@@nathanrock9269 Interesting. Thanks.
Nice, really nice
Everybody has showered praise on the two cellists and the orchestra by calling the rendition magnificent, extraordinary, bravismo, etc., and so naturally I have no scope in writing a better comment! Meanwhile, I will take my time out to contact some retired professors of English to craft an excellent comment. In the interim if I write that the rendition was fantabulous whether it will be regarded as an affront by the two cellists! I do not have the faintest idea.

I have just played exactly the 1st movement in my mind! The finding of this concerto does would be a divine intervention? :)
Além dos solistas e das restantes cordas, é marcante a presença do theorbo emitindo uma nota baixa.
Uma japonesa na orquestra!
Bravi! Bravi! Bravi!

Wow
I particularly enjoyed the 2nd movement with the interplay between the cellos and the theorbo. Gloomy yet glorious. What does the notation look like for the theorbo? You almost need a grand staff to write it out fully, or lots of 8vb and 8va symbols
I’m unsure, but I believe it’s basso continuo that they’re using. They are improvising based on figures under the baseline.
😮😮❤

Nothing at all against the cellist in the video, but how about Yo-Yo Ma and Sheku Kanneh playing the concerto? Now, that's a visual... Again, great job Cleveland Baroque Orchestra! BRAVO!
Can you link the video for me , bc I can’t find it :( that seems like an AMAZING duo
@@nathanrock9269 There is no such video unfortunately… I was wishing out loud… 🙂
@@audwinjones9079 WAH, that would be a amazing duo, I shall wish out loud with u :)
I’ve never seen anyone position the cello like that
Angry Fish this is baroque music. In the baroque period, cellos didn’t have endpins which are the long sticks at the bottom. That’s because they didn’t need to shift so much. Today, cellos shift a lot so they slant their cellos with their end pin. They’re doing it to be more historic.
Hope that cleared it up. :)
Thank you. I wasn’t trying to hate on them I was just curious. Thanks for clearing it up😀

At anyrate good perfomance~
Her Cello bow is a bit too tight- but did amazing!! Great job!! I played this a few years ago. Sooo much fun!
Maybe it’s because they’re using baroque bows? I’m not sure
@@honeybloom8533 They look like pretty interesting baroque bows tho! It also seems curved at the end of hers- signs of being too tight? But regardless still sounded awesome ✨️
@@_raven_3302baroque bows are meant to be super curved like that because they bring out the mezzo di voces compared to normal bows.
@@vishalsubramanian2051 Well yes, but I'm referring to the tip bent to the side. It's got a lot of strain for a baroque now even.
its surprising that they are using baroque style cello men
This is what Apollo's Fire is known for... original instrument performances
Just wonder why there’s no harpsichord here, instead there’s an instrument looks like an oud
Nicely done, but the cellos should have had more/better microphones... shame to waste such great playing.

Should be natural minor and not harmonic minor. Great show though.
Why all those kitsch rallentandi every two bars?
