Congrats on the recovery!! I have a similar backpack set up for my Helios rod. Use two Fish Pond silicon straps PLUS I have a Fish Pond River Rat drink Koozie that the rod tube sits in. This cups bottom of tube so it doesn't slide down. Overkill? Yes. But it works.

Fantastic! Ever tried fishing in shorts and gaiters? The initial contact is cold, but the freedom outweighs the problems with waders or neoprene pants etc. I love fishing in light aqua shoes, with gaiters taped to them and shorts.

    That's a real "happy ending".
Looks like we has some rain.
About 3 years ago I dropped an old Shimano Raider Bream rod and Diawa reel off the back of my Hobie into Lake Burle Griffin.
A few weeks I was back and bumped into a guy who usually fished Googong. I happened to mention my stupidity and he got his phone out. "Look like this"? It must have stood upright and he'd hooked the top eyelet kayak trolling for cod.
I couldn't explain the million to 1 odds when she told me my cheap replacement was premature.

That's where monster trout live !
Well done on the recovery !! Only the really determined head there ! Get a wading stick man or hiking pole and add a solid retractor to the pole and your wading belt !!

Wonder if Orvis/Simms/Fishpond etal will come up with a fully integrated rod tube backpack. Stay safe out there! Seriously add a day to your trip to NZ and hire a guide. You won’t regret it!!!

Orvis Bug Out bag has an extendable sleeve that turns a bottle holder into a single ended sleeve that the tube can't fall out of.

Remarkable. Now, that was an effort. Well done! That rod deserves a place on your wall in 30yrs. Glad you found it. Men in tights. Remind me not to follow you if you ever say "It should be just down here". 🙂 Down in Tumut now. Was 44 on the way down. Cheers mate PP
