    It is heartbreaking breaking that he has recently had a relapse since this song and was just in the hospital. Now he is starting the road of healing once again.

      @Coping_Skillz  23 часа назад +2

      That is truly heartbreaking!
      Like most things in life though, relapse is part of the process. It shouldn’t be viewed as a failure but rather something to learn from!
      From what it sounds like, maybe Ren pushed himself a bit too hard too soon.
      Super frustrating for him, and I hope he recovers quickly!
      But, hopefully a morsel buried in the experience to learn from.

      With great power comes great responsibility, and Ren is truly a hero! He is using his growing powers and platform for so much more than simply creating brilliant music. He is hope.
      Ren shared the full story of his health journey in 8 video chapters leading up to the release of this song and what a journey it has been. If anyone hasn’t already watched them, I highly recommend you do. You can find them on his secondary channel RenMakesStuff. With all the chapters he is showing immense strength in sharing his story that is so hard to tell, being vulnerable and telling it because he hopes it will help others and raise awareness. And here he is with another rendition of that story, now told through music. The world needs Ren 🐰🕳️
      BTW while I can’t speak on his behalf, I imagine there was something very grounding and a sense of relief in cutting himself. When living every day in excruciating pain and with no explanations, there is probably an odd beauty in the clear cause and causation of it. It isn’t good, but it is truth. Luckily I believe that was the only time of self harm at that level. Though he has also talked about how smoking has been a sort of self harm that he finds satisfaction in because it is his choice unlike the illness. A way to regain a sense of control when at war with your own body I suppose. It’s hard to fully understand without going through what Ren has been through. And he is unfortunately still struggling. But the strength he possesses to keep dancing is inspiring 🖤

    Ren made blogs for others suffering with similar issues during the years listed
    One was seen by a Doctor based in LA who offered stem cell treatment worth 25000 dollars free if Ren documented it on line. The video he saw is on Rens channel its heartbreaking to watch. Treatment gave him a few years respite in which he performed in the streets of Brighton England and went viral a few times worldwide restarting his music career. He spent 18 months in a clinic in Calgary receiving treatments to repair damage to body and brain and to get rid of a coinfection bacteria from the Lyme . During this time he released Sick boi Album which went number 1 in the UK last year independent while he ran things whilst hooked up to iv bags 5 days a week. He returned to UK in July and shortly after got news from tests that the infection was still present
    Making a music video a few weeks ago he had to be rushed to hospital. Has been resting since and needs to return to Canada for further treatment at the end of October

    Good choice. Ren has a good selection of mental health songs - and many from the pre-Hi Ren days that are really powerful. Most Renegades (I'm a renegade Renegade) will point you towards the collaborations - I just think they dilute Ren's good work. Pre-Hi Ren days ==> I suggest "Crutch" or "Patience," both made back when he was really sick. EDIT: Sick Boi, Diazepam, Su!cide, Chalk Outlines, Fred Again, also. Heh. All mental health related.

  • @perfectkismet

    The "raw thoughts" Ren was writing from his "coffin" were actually blogs rather than songs. He was trying to leave a legacy that someone might use to help other people... instead, the stem cell doctor came across them and offered him treatment for free if he could get to California.
    Ren promised his younger self, and the community he made around his health blogs that he wouldn't forget them and this song was a part of that. He released the official version for ME Awareness month, specifically to give a voice to the #missingmillions and, as it said in the official video, to give a message of hope because he wished he had more messages of hope at the time.
    He's only made two other very obscure references to self-harm that I've come across. It's not one of the things he presses the point on.
    Ren currently identifies as agnostic, but he uses a *lot* of religious iconography.

      Leaving a legacy in writing for people after him is such a wild thought. I can’t imagine what he was going through.
      Self harm is a very important topic to address, I’m glad he was vocal about the art of his journey. You never know who it might help.
      I’m glad he takes such solace in music, I can understand why he considers it close to god. It sounds like music was something he held onto that helped bring him out of some dark times.

    This will be fun, educational, and emotional. We REN fans love him as a musical artist for sure, but greater than his musical genius is the message that he is delivering. . Hope, strength in each and everyone of us, and a belief in a better world where caring about each other is more important than personal greed! It’s a message for mankind to get our shit together. We’re currently failing as a species that deserves this planet we call home. You’ll see as your introspection is right up REN’s messaging alley. Music is the one universal language that supercedes religion, politics, borders, skin color etc. REN’s personal health struggles have given him enlightenment to empathize with humanity on a level that we’ve yet to experience from a musical genius. It’ll be interesting to see how this all evolves as his greatness is being recognized by more and more people like you, who obviously place the greater good of mankind above personal short term gain, and greed. Look forward to sharing your Ren journey. Unfortunately Ren is once again facing serious health problems. Despite REN’s continued references to religion he fully understands the power of religion without being a “religious” person. He understands both the power of religion along with the inherent evils that religion has caused in the history and evolution (or lack thereof) in the human race. You’ll see. Some Ren fan said, prophetically, there’s life before Ren and there’s life after being introduced to the wisdom of Ren. Welcone to the world of Ren!

    Ren was unable to get out of bed for the first year, by the 2nd, his contract with Sony Music collapsed. Ren was tortured, there are no other words. Lyme, begins it's insidious invasion of the brain destroying all protection. Psychosis is the only reasonable reaction when you are at the end. Ren's journey with this disease is far from over.

      @@Coping_SkillzThe Big Push was primarily a busking/street performance band. They did covers and originals that spanned multiple genres... but didn't write a *lot* on mental health beyond what leaked in from Ren. People have called their originals a cross of The Beatles meet The Doors meets ska. Their most popular covers range from Wade In The Water, to Black Sabbath, to Jimmy Hendricks, to Fatboy Slim, to The Police, though they all end up with a kind of ska flavor ("happiest Black Sabbath I've ever heard"). There are two other co-lead singers that bring their own flavor as well, but it's basically three singing guitarists and a drummer. And they honestly appeal to just about everyone no matter your musical preferences. I know *I* was never a classic rock or metal kinda girl.

    • @Coping_Skillz
      @Coping_Skillz  3 часа назад

      The chapters have been recommended by a ton of people!
      I'm considering doing an extended reaction to all the chapters.
      A couple people mentioned he plays a song at the end of each one and I was gathering that they may be songs that are available with videos of their own. So, if I do that I may skip the songs at the end so I can react to those by themselves.
      Then make an edited video of the "highlights" - as they apparently are fairly long to highlight the parts that resonated with me the most.
      But, have to have a good chunk of time set aside to do that!
