A lot of people don’t want anything to do with the police or the criminal justice system. Pressing charges means having to talk to police officers, something many folks have legitimate reasons not to want to do.

@@MrEkzotic You can't expect cops to be robots. Sure, cops will also look for the killer of a mayor more than the killer of a bum. That's juat life. As long as cops give a good effort to protect everyone, a favor here or there is nothing big. Also these small PDs are often strapped for resources so they might use their discretion to go after the robber of that deli over some other crime. Ultimately, people need to protect themselves, cops are usually too late.

That is silly talk. He was driving a Ford Escape. He needed to plan better and that would require a Ford Focus. For him to pull off a 2 state drive, he would need a Ford Expedition or a Ford Excursion and with the cost of gas, he couldn't go very far without getting any money from the heist.
Just imagine how funny it would have been for him, and that guy that went viral a few weeks ago from Zooming into a suspended driver's license court hearing while driving, and then having the audacity to make a media round saying it was a clerical error, only to learn he never had a license in the first place. That "fantastic" duo would have a combined IQ score of 5, and brains smoother than a drag coefficient of 0.001, in plain English that's an object that's imperceptibly different from the smoothest possible object that has mass and a surface area that can be measured.

There’s a lot of factors that cut down jail time (some that may not even be known to the public). Do *way* too many criminals get away with essentially nothing? Oh yeah, and it’s a huge problem. But given this guy is old, no prior record (?), cooperated, and etc about if he actually intended to use the weapon/pre-planned to rob the store/whatever it would have helped lower his punishment. (That being said, armed robbery is armed robbery… someone’s life was inherently in danger).

It's a common trend now, senior citizens having to rob stores or banks due to being scammed or not having enough money due to medication prices or corporate landlords
This is exactly the comment I was looking for. Was he in the wrong for trying to commit armed robbery? Yes. Should we start looking into why a senior citizen is out here trying to rob places? Also yes. I would love to have the story behind why someone's grandpa is out here robbing places.
Senior citizens in the USA who have done 10 years of fulltime work have no excuses, they can at any time go into a retirement home and get medication paid for entirely by the federal government through Medicare. At that point they don't need the money through social security since everything they need will be provided through the retirement home services, and the federal government will garnish their social security to recoup some of the debts the person enters before end of life.
This is what I’m thinking, maybe he is in debt or so broke his wife doesn’t know and was desperate for money, he seemed nervous, uneasy and it was clearly his first time so what’s going on in his life that drove him to such desperate measures?

Even though the guy was a criminal, I feel for him, because a guy that age pulling his first robbery most likely did it out of desperation. It has to be horrible to get to old age and not be able to take care of yourself financially. So many elderly people are struggling but they aren't in any shape to work. On the other hand, the police and the citizens involved did an awesome job.

@@MADmosche2 yrs probation and 6 months of that in jail. He also has to maintain sobriety which suggests he may have been under the influence when he did it. That would explain why he didn't have a record, why the whole job was such a mess and why he seemed slow when they caught him
