  • Look at this gorgeous neon yellow day lily called Four are Wild. This variety is a TrophyTaker Daylily. I actually loved the bright orange daylily from Proven Winners called Primal Scream, that I wanted to add the bright yellow pop of color from this daylily as well. Both these colors look great with the blue plants that I have on this Westside Garden.

My brother had pancreatic cancer but after wonderful new treatments and much prayer he is absolutely cured. God has given doctors wisdom and we must never give up. Our goal is to be ready for eternity and thankful for every day we are given. ❤

You have really inspired me to plant day lilies as I do remember growing them in my French home in the Bordeaux area and how easy growing they are blooming for weeks. Your collection of plants & shrubs is really interesting. Thank you for reminding us that health is the key to happy living and that we can soldier through tough times & enjoy happy times as long as we do have our health. Some people will not get a second chance so we should take every single day as a blessing in Life. Just like you I feel like a kid in a candy store when I am visiting my local garden centre who always greets me with a cheerful "well, here comes trouble" ! 😊💚

Your garden is beautiful Kim. I thought about what your previous guest said about the Japanese beetles, they do some damage, but they go away. I noted in my garden journal that they were gone within 3 weeks in my area. I used to cut off the damage roses, but noticed they come back to the same flower from the previous day. Now, I just leave them their snacks until they stop feeding. My roses seem to wait until the beetles stopped feeding on them and are pushing out a new flush. It was still refreshing to drown the little devils.

We have the Japanese beetles here in southern Illinois. I just pick them off and place them in Dawn dish soap water. I think in early spring next year I’ll use a systemic on my knockout roses. Having said that, they only hit the roses. I don’t know if you have a lawn service but ours applies an additive in the spring that kills the grubs.

We applied the grub killer in the spring. The problem is that not all neighbors do it and we have that large common area in the back

I was trying to do the soap & water for the Japanese beetles, but I’m over it! Started spraying the Bio Advanced 3 in 1 (Amazon) and it’s works, killing those little pest! Spray in the evening to avoid the pollinators.

I use grub killer granulits early spring with a seed spreader in the grass also in my garden beds I do spray as well in late evening on my roses hibiscus have been doing this the last three years and the Japanese beetles have depleted thank goodness. I am in New Hampshire are our Japanese beetles are horrible. But by doing what I have has worked out for I have not seen one Japanese beetle this season so far last year I probably seen about a handful full . All my another beneficial bugs are still here and things are looking just wonderful. Good luck Kim with what you choose to do 👍

    Hey Kim!
I treated my lawn in the spring and summer last year and in the spring and summer this year for Japanese beetles! They eat The leaves off of my hydrangea tree and Proven Winners hibiscus, and on one of my rose of Sharon. I got tired of picking them off and put them in sudsy water so I sprayed them. There are LESS this year! They also put their bodies inside of my peach At Last roses in my front yard, usually at night!I sprayed it and my crepe myrtle trees. There are Less! I still pick off about 6 to 8 JB a day. I am so glad I sprayed my two crêpe myrtle trees in the front yard! That helped! My plants still look really good this year because I am on top of it! I still hate them😂. Did you know that there is also a “June bug” beetle that is brown and comes out at night and feeds off of your plants? I go out at 10o’clock every night on my front porch (lights on) and put out a sudsy Bucket of water and catch some!(I don’t know why but they are only in the front yard🤷🏻‍♀️) I catch about 10 at night and throw them in the water!I spend 10 minutes a night .Get out your flashlight and get on your front porch ! This is War! I have worked too hard and too many hours making my gardens look beautiful!🌺🌹🌸 There are NO bites on my roses or hydrangea leaves in the front yard! I have three at last roses in the front yard and 12 hydrangeas in my front yard!🙌🏼 hope this helps🙏🏼
