Just wanted to let you know that the way you explain things in this video is clear and concise. It really helped me understand some of the finer points of tracking down a no image/no backlight issue I was having on a 6S.
Nice upgrade for video capture , and think you for sharing those footage i'm not always commenting but trust me jason i watched each video that you post and it helps me alot i'm learning more and more so thank you again ....
Hey Jason. I have an old 6s+ which is not turning on, no image and not detected. However I can put it in DFU mode with home and power buttons and iTunes sees it that way. Any idea? Thanks.
I noticed you didn't used a heatgun at all to remove those caps, was it because the LCD connectors just beside them could of easily been damaged with hot air? thanks
Hi I was wondering if you could tell me if cap 1295 is needed and if so the value and size I blew it off my board and I checked the schematic and it shows it's location ad number but nowhere else is it shown on the schematic
I replaced my cracked display assembly on my iPhone 6s, right at the end when I was plugging the new screen in it sparked and I got a bit of smoke. Can't see any damage but I'm not getting any image. The phone is definitely powering on, tried old screen no image either. Can you advise what it might be?
I don't know what it might be exactly, but my advice is to make sure the battery is not plugged in when you reconnect the screen cables as it's super easy to accidentally short pins during reconnect.
I have a question how do you acquire your donor boards? Well I got more than one question, are they boards that where unrepairable? If so how did you get them from the customer?
Hi good video After I replaced the U1502 in iPhone 6 and I have a surprise the iPhone Dead oh gosh and I don't find it Please do you have a idea about it From Brazil
Nice fix :) ever serviced a Microsoft surface RT? I cant find anything about this board. I mean, nothing. It behaves like its trying to power up in a cycle and I say that because the 12v keeps oscilating. No water traces or corrosion. I'm thinking a bad cap but I have no clue where to inject power.
I really enjoy your videos thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to make them! By the way how did you acquire you knowledge in this field I am really wanting to learn especially since my car accident left me with a partial paralyzation lost my career and now disabled. Thanks again have a wonderful weekend.
hi, its very inspiration watching your videos...I do iPhone repairs...but want to learn chip level repairing...Need little help from you, could you please let me know which equipment you use and which brand.
For your search box popping up off the screen you can also try draging your taskbar to the top of the screen and back. (make sure you unlock the taskbar first) The search box should snap to below where the taskbar was, might be quicker then your blind keystrokes...
Sir STS, do you have multi tester tutorial? I wonder how do you know if the filter, cap, coil and resistor is short to ground by testing it in oms mode , resistance, and diode. You are a big help in my career on board level repair, i learnt a lot from you sir. Please upload more repairing and troubleshoot videos.
I am starting my own business in cell phone board repair..were do you recommend to buy SMD parts, ic's etc. I am buying the microscope that you are recommending..I just need to find where you buy you smd supplies from. thanks
Hi, your videos inspired me a lot to begin with micro soldering. So I'm just sitting here waiting for all my tools to arrive so I can start repairing phones etc. ... I just really need to know why didn't you run some volts across the motherboard to see the burned cap ? I would highly appreciate your answer as I'm very new to this and I hope I can get better in this. Greetings from Slovakia !
I enjoy watching these videos because I too like repairing phones and laptops whatever else. I repaired my iPhone 6 plus just because I couldn't see it there not working. So I got a new chassis for it and screen and it took forever since it was my first time ever removing all the parts from inside that it was a bit overwhelming lool. So many tiny screws and different sizes that I did try to mirror the positions of the screws on my mat but, when you have a child running around and curious about stuff the screws got mixed so it was a lot of trial an error but, I just put what felt right through tension not to much just incase I got it wrong and messed the board up. A few months after since I've been using it tho the screen on the top right corner is darken abit compared to the rest of the screen and now to add to the commotion when I press my power button to lock the screen it doesn't want to come back on but, the phone is still working as when I hold the home button it vibrates so watching your videos I'm coming to some conclusion that either one of the screws are too big for where I may have misplaced one or two or the screen needs replacing again as it was a rather cheap screen. I'd like some support on that if anyone can help?
STS you guys are great. Are you able to point me in the right direction to find the schematics you use as well as the extension type? Appreciate all your help, keep up the great work!
Hello sir My iPhone suddenly getting blue lines vertial and horizontal lines Without any damage what can I do I check flex cables all are fine and don't have any damage what isbthe problem I removed flexs and re fixed but still same problem
I've been attempting board level repair for a while now and teaching myself alongside with doing it. Today I finally managed to find a shorted capacitor on an iPhone 6 on a 5V7 power rail and resolved the short after removing the cap. Videos like these help me in my theoretical knowledge, but actually doing this stuff is a whole different thing. Anyways, the LCD now works...kinda, but with my usual bad luck the phone has further surprises for me. Turns out touch is not working, and the lcd has some strange ghosting effect (not to mention the whole motherboard is bent because I received the phone that way). Its difficult enough to do SMD rework with a crappy hot air & soldering station, without a microscrope and with a tiny working space, and now I've gotta reflow or replace the Touch IC? Screw me right?
Great Video Jason i completely agree bout the hot air as well i use a Aoyue 968+ and it has made me heaps of $$ i have tested it and the hot air coming out of it stays the same throughout the entire repair :)
nice vid again. Thanks! About the equipment, I can't completly agree. I started with a aoyue all in one 2703A+. I thought I was doing o.k. But with phone rapair it was hard, and I wanted the micro pencil. So I bought the Hacko FM203. That was already a big difference. I still used the hot air part from the aoyue machine, it was working.....but looking at your video's and from Chris, Jessa and many others, I could tell that i did a crappy job with the hot air. So I just bought the Quick 861DW and it blew my mind really. It now feels so easy to replace stuff with hot air. I know this still is a budget machine. But way better than what I had. Could be that this 2703 is just not up to the work that I was doing with it. And I see that your aoyue is a stand alone hot air station, maybe that is way better then the all-in-one I had. Nevertheless I'm happy now. And for a reasonable price. Because here in europe hakko is already expensive...and the weller and JBC stuff overhere is a "root canal without anesthesia" kind of expensive :) And I can agree that personally I would feel stupid too when soldering a 3 cent capacitor with a multi-thousand euro hot air station. But then again, I never had the chance to try one haha.
I thought it was clear from my story :) But yes, i would recomend it. But the one used in this video also seems to do a good job. So my finding is only based on 2 different units that I personally used. Big plus that I forgot to mention is that this thing is really quiet compared to my 2703A
Hey, just want to say thanks for the input and let you know that this did not go ignored. My next hot air station will most likely be a Quick station.. I've been hearing a lot of good things. The main thing for me is those profiles though. Looking forward to that :) Thank u!
good job! So did you fix the broken loose shield? lol. and what about the component you thought someone touched with a tool at the beginning? $130 for hot air, I just may get that now.
The component in the beginning was ok, it had just been touched by a pry-tool I think. No harm done there. To be 100% honest, I actually forgot to correct that shield though. It won't really make a difference but with me trying to make sure everything is perfect, that bothers me! lol Thanks 4 watching & commenting! :)
I got the hot air station using the link! I had $80 in Gift cards to use! funny you forgot the shield now you cant sleep! you don't think anything related to that shield moving would have impacted that back cap?
hi STS Telecom your videos are great I learn something every time I watch you guys , I have a question why use ohms instead of continuity to test short to ground ? thanks in advance
Great video man, i wish my language proficiency could make me got everything on the first view, btw whats software is that u using to see the board image and components (at 8:00)? Thank you very much for this awesome material.
@36:38 Does anyone know where I could find this "article" on STS Telecom Micro soldering Ipad Rehab please. EDIT - I think that I may have found it here if anyone else is interested www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/362934/Broken+logic+board.+Who+can+repair
The easiest way I've explained about capacitors in troubleshooting is that once they become resistors, that's when you have your short-to-ground. The dialectic material somehow dries up or leaks, therefore allowing the current to pass through from the VCC to the VSS, thereby rendering it a resistor. It could very well be bad manufacturing of the cap. I expect caps to go bad with legacy equipment, but very rarely in electronics that are only a few years old. There's some physics involved here, where a large thru-hole electrolytic cap has more mass than a tiny SMD cap. So, I would say that the thru-hole cap has a better chance at a longer life than a smaller part. Engineering at Apple, Samsung, etc. do in fact know this, but have decided for the consumers that their products are not meant to be around for a long period of time. As for the shielding being cracked, that could very well have happened sometime in the past, but didn't cause a problem at that time. So, the customer didn't lie, as he really does think that the phone suddenly stopped working.
HAHA! nice foreordain slip, Love the videos, keep up the good work! I am getting into micro soldering myself as I own a general repair shop so I have plenty of Icloud boards, do you think it would be a good idea to take these boards and try and cause common defects to get some practice?

Thank u!! These comments really do help keep me goin! :)
Thank you Jason, after replacing chestnut and checking all of the data lines and fuses came across your video. And this was my solution

Where do you buy your iPhone Schematics from
Shouldn't caps have a very high DC resistance?
Good evening, what is the temperature to remove the nand and the other components?
Good night, what is the temperature to remove the nand and other components, because when I try to remove it, it will ruin the tracks of the board.
