@@jmannii I agree she doesn't have to be homeless. It does take changing your mindset. $1500 allows you to live in southern California. It's not fancy, and it's tough as you make it, but people do it. It's a matter of choices and so many people choose not to live within their means or they think they're entitled to more than they work for. $1500 means having to rent a room or even sharing a room and budgeting properly. No extras, no frills and it can certainly be done because it's being done by people every day. It doesn't have to be forever. You know about the "four walls" so you know about Ramsey and what it entails. No eating out, find a second part-time job, avail yourself of churches, food banks and social services when eligible. Nobody NEEDS to have an apartment to themselves - we prefer it, but many people enjoy living in roommate situations their entire lives. $1500 a month living in a car leaves plenty of room to be socking away funds. People do it every day. I have been saying this for decades: we need to bring back the good old Boarding House. I always thought (still do) that they provided a really important homelife and community for the tenants/renters/members. You have someone who oversees the housekeeping and cooks meals at specified times. You can choose to be as solitary as you wish or participate in the 'family' atmosphere. It provides security and companionship. You have your own private room or share a room, but meals are as a household.

Living in your car has become an accepted reality in certain parts of Cali. Since she has a car, she'd be better off driving up to San Fran where unemployment is 3% and minimum wage is near $16/hr. Set up 2-3 jobs so you can work 80 hours a week. Keep living in your car or stay in cheap motels for a few more months so you can pay off all your debts and save some cash. Then line up some jobs in a city like Boulder or Denver where unemployment is low, pay is high, and cost of living isn't insane. Get out of Cali and find some sense of normality. It will be alright.

For those of you who don’t know where her $$ is going-Newsflash: cars don’t have kitchens or refrigerators. How much would it cost to eat out for 90 meals a month in California? Then factor in that Gas down there is $3.39 a gallon (down from $3.89 a month ago). She is managing to shower and show up presentable to work-so there’s $60-$100/month for a gym membership. Cell phone. Car insurance. It adds up.
Agree and Disagree. There are Other things she could be doing. 1st is that she could be making a lot more money. Also, I love Buckee’s :/). Disagree with the other factors. I AM CURRENTLY living out of a car in CA. The money is HERE, in the city. If she can get her income up she can start saving enough money to make a calculated move; whether that be in her area or to a different area. The level of difficulty would increase exponentially if she went somewhere hot/cold. TX is cold this time of year and humid in the summer. Doing that in a car is insufferable. And even then she’d need enough $$ to float her a couple weeks until her 1st paycheck.
My dad lived out of his car when he put himself through college in Cali... He didn't do anything stupid, but he was helped his mother with any money he had as his dad died young and they were extremely poor. He grinded for decades, climbing each rung on the ladder until he became successful. Life's hard, but America is an amazing place of opportunity.
A studio apartment in Northern Ca. costs over $1000/month. You can't live here on your own making $1500 a month. I have three generations in my family alone of women beating husbands and children and know many other guys in that situation. I would say it's 50/50 if all domestic abuse crimes were reported. Even in schools there is a epidemic of female teachers having sex with students. Happened quiet a few times in my school but never involving a male teacher with a student. As for women having no money, women cause over 80% of divorces and usually get more than half of the husband money and the man can end up homeless even if he was a good man because the wife gets the house. It's never good being in a situation like this, I've been there. I did it on the east coast, it used to get cold. It's a very depressing existence, the only good thing is that I was young, just 18 at the time. Anyone living this way can change, there is a way out eventually. I just worked as much as I could and was able to save $5000 to get an apartment that I shared. Even though it's been a long time and I'm now far removed from that life it's something you never forget, once I got some traction and stability I left that lifestyle in the dust because you never want to go back to that ever again, the thought of it is scary. Nowadays, things are going pretty well. These days, If I tell anyone who didn't know me back then that i used live in my car they look puzzled because it doesn't look that way today...thankfully.
Every place has its thing. California has earthquakes and wildfires, the east coast has hurricanes, the Midwest has tornadoes and blizzards. Welcome to NY, welcome to Florida, welcome to...
No idea why people would rather be homeless in California than moving anywhere else where cost of living isn't in the 6 digit range
It's the climate; same homeless problem in Hawaii and Florida. If I had to be homeless, I'd prefer CA to FL (hot, humid, muggy and buggy in addition to the crazy)
@@janebrown3587 If I had to be homeless, I'd ask why. She doesn't HAVE TO be homeless. She can drive or take a bus to Tennessee, North Carolina, or many other states where the cost of living is cheaper. She can work a job that allows her to pay for her four walls. (Disclaimer: I DID live out of my car for a while but I had a better plan and cost of living wasn't my main problem. I didn't need to move to a warmer climate. Her case is pretty solid, though, that her location is the problem).
@KA NC and TN have plenty of good high paying jobs and the cost of living is not crazy. (Im a happy NC resident). We're not a poor state just because we're southern lol. We're not Kentucky!
@@janebrown3587 Other states are much cheaper and nicer in my opinion - North Carolina, TN, Kentucky, the list goes on and on. I have a beautiful townhome for $1100 a month in Ohio.
Dave, you can't get approved for ANY place to live on $1,500 because you gotta make at least double the rent; usually triple.

There are
Other things she could be doing.

Yes there is tough love, but many people make mistakes and when you're in love/infatuated you won't and/or can't see things as clearly. Hopefully in 6 months to a year my child is able to move out.
@@TaShar16 Thank you! She seem young and a bit naive, and I agree with you about working and respecting fair house rules. We don't know the whole story but I hope she and the father can build a healthy relationship.
Sad part is this is a growing epidemic in California, there are more and more ppl living cars as tech companies are increasing rents and housing cost across the state
sorry sound like she waiting on dave to say “you can come move in with me”
Natty Fatty Powerlifting does he charge for his course ?
She needs to move out of CA. I used to live in San Diego and I got priced out. I'm very fortunate because I was able to find an apartment in Tijuana for $300. It was built about 4 years ago so it's still new, has great insulation, and it has it's own parking spot for my car. It's been HARD having to adjust to this area but it beats sleeping in my car! My plan is to live here 2 years, save up my money, and eventually find another part of the U.S. where I can find a good paying job and buy a house. Thank God I found this place because Tijuana rents are also going up since it's so close to San Diego.
Any ideas of affordable places to live in the U.S. with good job/career opportunities?
@Natty Fatty Powerlifting Thank you. I'm interested in buying a home in the U.S. I work in San Diego and live in Tijuana so that's how I'm going to pay off my debts and start saving $$$. I have a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration so I can definitely work in the government sector. I am working in Sales right now and I prefer it over a government job. I figured I can work in Sales for another 5 years and then get a government job after that. My goal is to make as much $$$ right now that I still have the energy and drive.
She’s coming from the position of a victim... she needs to change her attitude and go WIN.
That can only start once you actually start winning which hopefully she will be in due time.
Relying on people is what got her in this situation.
Whittier...I live 5 mins from here, lot of drugs in this city
I'm in el monte! Wow so close to home
Lots of drugs in America..period
i used to live in hacienda heights
Her own father didn’t want her. Most likely she’s on the habit too.
I live in La Habra, Whittier is literally my neighbor.
I'm willing to bet there is more to the story ...maybe some sort of addiction....but Dave was great in handling this call with sensitivity and emphaty. Dave knew this woman did not need to be beaten down any further.
This was one of Dave finest moments. 👌
Dad hated her boyfriend. She thought she new better.
I think she has an drug issue
@Natty Fatty Powerlifting Not punishing her. Treating her like an adult.
Natty Fatty Powerlifting Exactly she said her dad is overly controlling.
Chic Noir29 means...he has RULES...which she’s not interested in abiding by evidently.
So much learned helplessness in this call
Dave better than I deserve Ramsey 🙆🏻♂️
I have an idea of why her dad doesn't want her back.
but it is wrong to abandon your children in need like this.
hope she learned a lesson.
To those fleeing CA, please leave your liberal voting habits at the state line. Sincerely, every state that does not want to end up like California.
Amen!!
Don’t worry, I am👍🏼👍🏼 My vote means squat here in California.
I live in va i make 1500 a month im 52.....i rent a room 600 a month all utilities included....no debt......full benifits and money in the bank and car paid for......a real car toyota corolla.....TOTALLY HAPPY
Welcome to “fantastic” California where people are struggling to make money just to get to work. The poor is often taken advantage of by the ones who have money or own property. I’m from California and I don’t like that place! It’s a horrible place to live financially. The government failed many people there
I suspect that the father didn't want her to move out because the ex is a jerk and the father could smell that.
I think she legitimately perceives it that her father wanted her around for life, and there could be legitimacy to that, but my hunch is stuck on the first conclusion-that Dad was just looking out for her and she didn't listen. Then dad decided that he's not going to help out, to teach her a lesson, I guess?
imo - move to diferent place
Thank you Dave for helping this woman.
She needs to join the Military and They'll teach her how to make decisions and be responsible.
Alicia Browndocken the military would be an excellent place for her to get herself out of this horrible situation she is in. I don't know if the military still offers sign on bonuses but if so that would be another incentive for her to join. She would become disciplined and responsible.
@@bonnievandergriff8272 And the educational assistance earned really help with schooling after you're Discharged. Veterans Benefits are Awesome.
@Omne Obstat not everyone blows up hospitals dumb dumb, that job goes to the terrorists and even with terrorists it doesn't happen once a month. Once a year maybe...
Omne Obstat everyone doesn’t go to war when they’re in the military. I was in and I never ever deployed. She doesn’t have any kids so she can see a recruiter, keep her mouth shut about her carpal tunnel and get a foundation. While she’s in, she can use her TA (Tuition Assistance) for free and get a degree. When she gets out, she can use the GI Bill to get an even better degree. She can get herself a house using the VA home loan after her 1st enlistment, pay it off by paying extra on the principal every month and she can rent it out if she has to PCS or rent out a room or two while she lives in it or use it as an AirBNB. She has options! She better use them while she’s single and build a foundation for herself like I did.
Some people in society are missing the main point. Everyone in society starts the conversation with what people are Entitled to and not "What and where do you want to be and How can we get their? What are you Personally Willing to Invest"?
When I sat down with my financial advisor, I didn't tell him what I thought the world owed me I shared with him where I wanted to be and we set up a plan to reach my goals. Now I'm one of those rich home owners who hoards money. Yeah, Right, my house is paid for and I have an investment portfolio in mutual funds that provide jobs for millions of people. It's not the haves vs the have nots. It's the doers against the sitters.
The Women in Oakland right now trying to seize a house because it's vacant and they want to claim it is a perfect example. The house was just bought by and investment company 2 or 3 days before they moved in illegally and now they won't leave.
What is this world coming to. If you want something work for it. Dave Ramsey has some great advice.
Drugs, alcohol, living the high life and now reality hits as the money runs out as the looks disappear and the man with the money moves on.....
