- Rain. Wind. More rain. Feeling depressed due to the winter blues?
Try an escape to Spain. I had heard of people traveling to Spain to escape the Dutch winters...so I tried it out back, and it was the best idea-a 3-hour flight instantaneously made me 10x happier.
Note: I traveled there in early December, and everything was OK. But do be aware of all the changes due to COVID-things can change by the day. But if you can do so safely, I would highly recommend it for your wellbeing.

My mother is from Cordoba. The Mezquita will always have a special place in my heart. It is so beautiful and peaceful inside. The unique Andalusian style is so beautiful. We spent our summers in Spain ( from France) and every summer we would spend time visiting the Mezquita.

I was a bit hesitant to book travel to Spain after Christmas but in this video the weather appears perfect.
The weather was perfect! Not too hot. Not too cold. I mean, it would've been nice if it was a bit warmer...but for "winter," no complaints!

I did this same route few years ago with my older son. We started in Madrid, and after Toledo we took the train to Sevilla, and from there Cordoba, Gibraltar, Malaga and Granada, heading then to Barcelona and back to Madri. I think, as I said in a previous message, that you should consider relocating to either Spain or Portugal ! Warmer and more comforting David !

I use mainly my iPhone 12 when I'm out and about (everything was filmed using iPhone). The video quality on smartphones nowadays is top-notch
Otherwise, I do have a Sony A73 with 24-105 lens when I film at home.

Hi! If we have 6 days in Andalucia, how would you suggest we we divide it up amongst cities like Granada, Cordoba, Granada (and Malaga if there is time)? Thanks!
You being from California probably appreciated the warmth, sunny skies, low cost of living and laid back vibe of Southern Spain. California is becoming extremely expensive.

Hi David, funny I did exactly the same tour around 25 years ago when I was around your age. Flying to Malaga and visit the same cities with the high speed train. Especially Seville is a city where I could live, I thought in my younger years. But then somethimes live choose for you, I felt in love some years later with a Swiss girl and living there since then. Amsterdam, London and Paris are certainly more exithing cities in terms of international community, high culture and economics, but the life style in Spain is very attractive. Living more outside, and so much beauty and history. I only couldn't live there in the summer: its much to hot for my northern skin. I think what we most miss in the winter are the blue skies, because I feel the same happiness when I go up in the mountains here in wintertime. Fog lakes they called them, if you are up over 1500 meters and see the clouds beneath you, that keeps the lower areas so depressing greay. And although colder, the sun and, being out in nature makes me feel so much better. Stay healthy and I wish you the best for 2022.
Hey Ronnie and happy new year! Oh wow...where in Switzerland are you now? That would actually be a dream for me to live there too one day...I really miss the mountains. Yeah and being out in nature just makes me feel so much more alive. I'd love to be able to spend winters in a place like Spain but not the entire year.
@@hidavidwen Better late then never reaction :) I am actually going to Andalucia again for 4 weeks this winter and came again on your nice posting. I live in the area of Zürich/Basel. The tall mountains are about 1.5 hours away, but smaller mountains in my area ( 1000 feet) are less steep and much better for easy hikes. Don't hesitate to write if you are around here , we would be happy to show you some interesting places and we definitely have tips on how to travel and eat on a budget in this expensive country. @@ronnie9187 Thanks ronnie! Can't believe it's been almost 2 years since that trip! COVID was still around and there was the lockdown here in the Netherlands. Great memories. I miss the mountains of course. And yes will definitely consider writing if I come to Zurich/Basel-would be curious to hear about your love story of how you got to Switzerland!
@@hidavidwen Yes, time is flying ! COVID seems so far away, like it was just a bad dream. My love story is too long to tell as a RUclips comment, but let me say that I was first in love with the mountains, and I hiked a lot in the alps in my younger years, and I met my Swiss wife in Zermatt: that is the short version ;). question did you go in end of December? I'm going for the Christmas holiday and I'm trying to gage the temperature around that time.
I'm literally leaving to visit Spain next week, this video couldn't have come at a better time hahaha. I was hoping southern Spain would be warmer but it seems pretty chilly based on what people are wearing

Oh yeah...it's quite chilly when the sun isn't shining...so you do need a jacket...but hey, at least the sun is shining and it's still probably warmer than most other places during this time =) Happy new year

I'm thinking of renting a car to drive to those places and my main stay will be Malaga. I'll be flying to Madrid from San Francisco :) I came to Amsterdam 2 years ago, lovely city but it was raining cat and dog the day I arrived and the walk from the train station to my hotel was miserable lol...

Yeah Amsterdam's weather is crappy (not the best idea to come during winter!). The one thing I dislike the most. Are your from SF? I miss SF so much especially now

Hm...well the sun was the best part of Seville hahaha (especially coming from the Netherlands). Not winter-related but when I was in Seville...there were some processions that were happening...but Seville is just beautiful =)

Thanks! Hm well I spent almost a month because I also "worked remotely" there too. But I would spend more time in Sevilla/Granada. I only spent a day in Cordoba. Malaga is a bigger beach town...and you can base yourself there to do day trips.

I live in California, and if there is anything I am jealous of is that you can take a train, maybe a short flight in you are in countries each with a different culture.
Oh yeah that's probably the thing I love most about Europe =) Though I do miss sunny California, it has it all
Yes you are right. Something that so many people outside Europe seems to fail to understand: each country, hell each region within these Europeans countries, have their own unique culture, traditions, cuisine, and even nationalities and languages or dialects. Barcelona will be like a different universe to say Cordoba in Spain. Or Corsica vs Rennes ( France both) or Turin vs anywhere in Sicily….

Haha yes I’d love to go back! Oh 6 months…you’ll have plenty of time to explore a bunch of places.
Out of those 3…for traveling, I prefer
1. Granada
2. Seville
3. Cordoba
Granada is just a dream come true. I would love to go back and spend a few months there

Thanks gordon! Hm, I'd say Seville for one week. Lots to see and do. You could definitely spend a few days elsewhere too and use Seville as a base.

That building in Seville is iconic and gorgeous. Probably one of the most impressive buildings I've seen on camera.
They film bits of a Star Wars there when Palme walk with Anakin.stunning place, I love Seville.

Sunny but chilly days. I think 10-15 Celsius
Do the hotels there have heating? Or the winter in Spain is still pretty bearable?
Hotels should have heating and AC. But winters in Spain are quite bearable =) It can get chilly at night but in the day, t-shirt weather many days!

Hi Lily! From Santiago, Spain :) You can find them everywhere there. You can probably also find it online…but it was extra special because I had finished walking a camino and then bought it there!

- Go to Plaza de Espana day and night (both beautiful yet different experiences...more peaceful at night)
- Got a bike? Bike around Seville...it's one of the most bike-friendly cities in Seville
- No bike? Download VOI app and rent an electric scooter to get around (fun and cheap!)
Do you have time to travel elsewhere? You can do a day trip to Ronda (beautiful!). I also fell in love with Granada...I would go there!
