Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems somewhere I've read these trains have a one man crew and they are issued sidearms. No kidding. The rason being is if the crew member needs to stop because of a stickng brake or for some other reason he needs to leave the lcoomotive cab, bears are numerous in the area. .
