  • Though Larry Walker had a no-trade clause in 2004, he jumped at the chance to join the St. Louis Cardinals: “Coming here for some 14, 15 years as a visitor, it was really a no-brainer. They said ‘You’re going to St. Louis,’ and it didn’t take me but a couple minutes to say yes."

I have a lot of respect for Walker, he was a damn fine ballplayer, and ever deserving of the HOF nod he got. That being said, he's really just being nice here. His coming to St. Louis was strictly business. He knew if he finished out his career in Colorado, it'd be nice, and he'd be revered as one of the greatest players to ever play for them, but that'd be it. Larry knew if he came to St. Louis, he had a shot at getting a ring. When it didn't happen in 2004, he gave the Cardinals one more year, and we got knocked out in the NLCS in 2005. Larry then respectfully hung it up. Walker was really the only player we had in the WS in 2004 that delivered offensively.

Finally the writers wised up. Over the past few years I am sick and tired of hearing "the Coors Field affect". Give me a break......how about the small ball park affect. Cincinnati, Chicago, NY Yanks right field, Baltimore..etc etc etc the list goes on,. When larry appeared on the MLB network after he was selected for the HOF, he made mention of an interview he and Tony Gwynn had done. I saw that interview and it is without a doubt the best one ever. He had Tony Gwynn cracking up. Larry is also a very witty and funny guy.
