Clare & Rob
So pleased for you with the electrics and switching on the under floor heating must have been a bit of a milestone for you after all that time waiting to test it.
I’m glad I’m not alone in how fascinating you too find the wall work Clare, there were a couple of moments when I would take a pinning that had fallen out and think “wow, the last time this was pushed into that wall was 200 odd years ago!” It’s quite mind blowing isn’t? Pulling out the oats, reminded me of our living room ceiling coming down, with what seemed like kilos of oats up against the back outside wall, so much it seemed far too many to have been mice 😮
You did a great job on the wall, it looks beautiful! It really is a time consuming job isn’t but it’s also a job that you just get to zone out doing it! I, for one, didn’t find it boring at all watching you. I bet you thought of your dad and his work many many times ❤ I love your musings on the wall and how it was constructed and why certain things are like they are today, I’m with you on the fascination of it all!
Rob good job with the kitchen doors, it all looks very sleek! Ooh also I love your work table, that’s a great size for doing pretty much anything isn’t it. Wow, I bet that was a scary moment putting the stain on the doors after all the hardwork you did getting them on. It turned out pretty well though. Yes! The burnt Japanese look…that’s spot on. Hahaha I LOVE the spare summer look idea!
Aww Losty is a beauty! Every job is much nicer with a cat or two supervising and yep that pointing tool is just the right size for her too! ❤
Thanks guys, yes we are truly delighted and amazed at the kitchen we have created, can't quite believe it!
The stone wall is a labour of love, but I guess also a preservation of times gone by. Thankyou for such a lovely comment 💓
Tip: When you are staining, raw wood, use a sanding sealer. So that the wood takes the stain evenly. Especially when you're using light wood, that way, the finish will not be blotchy.Because wood takes the stain differently in different spots on the piece. I learned this a long time ago and it makes a huge difference in the finish. You won't get blotches of darker patches. Pine and lightwoods like birch, things like that definitely could use it. Makes the finish more uniform and looks better.
I agree clear coat or Osmo would have been beautiful I don't think he even wiped the dust off
Thanks, we did plenty of test pieces in the last video. We preferred a single coat rubbed on.
He did, thanks
Fantastic job Clare! You are excellent at pointing and adding the right stones as support. A lot of work Rob, well done! So much hard work, break time!
Thanks ☺ great momentum this week
Hi to you both,
Love the kitchen stain colour you chose.
I just got back from coming home to the UK., for several weeks, visiting and stocking up with goodies, especially my teabags. I was glad to get back to the wider motorways here in S.Carolina I must say.
Claire, you’ll love your finished kitchen, both of you will for sure. You can get something to attach the dishwasher so you just push it and it opens, so check around to see what available there. So love to see each weeks episode.
Have a good week both of you. Thank you for sharing . Maureen.
Thanks ☺ Narrow roads all right! Only Irish tea bags are worth keeping ;)
The doors need a second, if not a third coat of stain and then a coat of clear varnish. Great work being done.
We prefer a single stain, and we dont like the varnish or oil finish. Well see how it goes for a few weeks / months
Clare ! An Aussie here and we had a famous bush ranger by the name of Ned Kelly ( born here in Victoria but his Dad was an Irishman) when Ned was eventually caught and hung some say his final words were “ Such is Life.” While you were talking about losing a day to the electrician you said “ Such is Life “ 😂 It made my day . Even though Ned was a criminal many loved him because he fought against the establishment that were very corrupt back in the day .
We love ned Kelly in Ireland. He was an Irishman who stuck it to the brits ;) Great few films on him!
I look at the damp in the workshop and wonder how my parents / grandparents stayed warm and healthy in those old stone houses.
My mum's birth home (with 7 siblings lol!) was so bad that when they finally got a council house the farmer who was renting it to the family as a 'home' for the previous 15 years literally just took off the doors and was moving the cows straight in as soon as they had cleared their meagre belongings lol!I
It went from a home they had to pay rent for, to a cow shed instantly!
Probably because there was no running water and no electricity, and never had been lol!
Jez thats crazy! Things were simple back then eh!
wowwweeee, what great progreesss ,you 2 are doin so well ,congrats on havin all electrics working yeyy, roll on next video ,love watchin uxx
Thank you! Getting there slowly, delighted to have it before this cold snap!

Lightening up the pointing mix really makes the stones pop!
You two are such hard working couple looking really good in the parlour and love the black kitchen ❤
Thanks ☺
Note to self - Gotta stop pausing and commenting as I watch!
Sorry to wreck your heads guys lol!
Great video - Thank you!
Hey Clare, I have seen other people point and it seems a damp paint brush helps smooth out the pointing. Just thought I would mention it. I hope this is useful information.
I have an old paint brush I use, handy to finish it off
Staining on the kitchen cabinets is so contemporary! Looks fab!
Thanks so much! 😊
I like the stained doors! Love your Chanel ❤
Thanks ☺
Doing vv well 😊take easy 👌
Love the stained cabinets with the wood pattern showing through. The rock walls are really looking good. You have so much patience to deal with finishing all that.
Thanks so much!
Blimey...you two work really hard! The wall looks fab and the kitchen looks amazing. You've done a wonderful job 👏
Thanks so much! 😊
Chrome/stainless steel handles or groves for fingers on the drawers.
Your onto something with the groove! Check out tomorrows video!
Hi lovelies 😊 everything is looking amazing! Seeing it all come together shows your vision. Slow down I wanna be watching you guys for years to come! 😅 ❤️

Maybe clad over the wall under the window with some old timber for the contrast, and also to hide the concrete!

Thanks ☺
Doing vv well 😊take easy
Thanks ☺
All looking amazing ✨
Thanks, getting there :)
Akl kooks fab! Grest progress, i didnt think at the start yous would do so much and so fast! Maybe just add timber frame around shed openings & staple on plastic/tarp or maybe roofing membrane or house building paper to keep it dry for now...
Yeah good idea, may do that frame!
Lovely dob on the doors Rob
Thanks!
It was, definitely a better idea to buy rather than build the carcasses - You would've likely been BURIED by that job when having to deal with pre-existing stuff like the counter top, cooker, fridge etc to factor into the build measurements and generally work around?
As it is, it looks great 👍 Rob!
😊😊
Thanks ☺
Wall looks great Clare, fab! Wow love to hear the underfloor heating works, I have to admit I had concerns, that's amazing. I expect to be embarking on a similiar journey soon. Fabulous stuff, following everything :)
Thanks :) Heats up pretty fast, much faster than our old wet underfloor which could have taken 10 hours to change a degree. This changes within 5 minutes. But our last floors has marble and im not sure how much insulation. As you know we only have concrete here, but massive insulation at 200mm. I would guess, that current thru wire is far faster than boiler pumping water to make temp changes. It also means thermostats are much more responsive to keep a constant temp rather than they old fluctuating water underfloor. Some evenings we'd be freezing and up the heating a degree or two only to come downstairs next morning to an inferno and have to open all windows... defo reccomend!
Glad u quiet smoking. I thought so since your breathing improved over the last 5 years! Love the lot bed in the van
Like the staining on cupboards, are you going to put brass handles on them, that would look nice
Actually no handles, check out tomorrows video!
❤🎉 Looking amazing! ❤🎉😊
Thanks ☺
Meeouw Lustee , from Yoshi , Kirby n Sox . Those parlour walls are looking superb Clare , well done for all your hard graft , luvin the nails Rob , suits you sir . Woof woof Roonie
Heheh, thanks for the hi's to all :) Robs almost getting more compliments on the nails than my walls 😂😂
Love❤❤the stain!
Thanks ☺
The black stain will also hide any slight imperfections with the door levels / alignment.
And the flippant comment about 'just' make another whole set of doors is exactly what my wife would say in all seriousness lol!
Love the room, looking good with the lime..
Thanks :)
Sand and sealer first, so now you see the blotchy finish. May give them 2 more coats?
Thanks, we tested a few finishes in the last video, we dont like the stain any darker
I hadn't thought of it until you replied to a comment I made on an earlier video, but it must be strange doing more and more tasks separated from each other, compared to earlier when it was the pair of you always battering on together as a team?
Yip good to be back for the latest :)
Both rooms AMAZING! Gea work!
Thanks so much!!
Stained doors, looking swish ❤
Thanks ☺
Wear a glove - always good advice 😉
Always! hahah
Is the stain also a sealant? If not I recommend a sealer for the kitchen area. The color though is gorgeous. It really anchors the room. And Clare you’re so very brave reaching into that big spider hole. Yikes. I couldn’t do that. The stonework looks very good though I’m sure it’s loads of work. Take care ✌️🤍 🥶
Yip its actually an external stain, so its a good sealant on its own. I'm gonna hunt down a spider tomorrow!
I can't believe you surrendered that room to Clare so easily Rob!
By publicly naming it HER "woman-cave" I hope you appreciate that you've hereby forfeited ALL rights to it - And by Jaysus it would've made a helluva wee 'snug' to demolish a few bottles of Jameson in!
'Happy Wife, Happy Life!' I suppose?
That mantra has always worked for me anyhow lol!
The room looks GREAT!
Its a grand whiskey spot all right!
hi rob n lare whos won your postcards ,did i win one xx
We haven't drawn yet, we are thinking about something new and we need to get that setup then we will do a draw there. Hoped to get it done today, but possibly a couple more days. Sorry, we should have said, but we haven't forgotten 😊
Will you be able to clean your kitchendoors without a paint on it? Can't imagine, the plywood soaks water and other fluids in.
Yip its actually an external stain as Rob wanted something we could wipe down.
Stain is UGLY clear coat would have been beautiful
Thanks, we love it. Clear coat looked naff!
Fabulous job..beautiful 👌 😊
Thanks ☺
