So pleased for you with the electrics and switching on the under floor heating must have been a bit of a milestone for you after all that time waiting to test it.
I’m glad I’m not alone in how fascinating you too find the wall work Clare, there were a couple of moments when I would take a pinning that had fallen out and think “wow, the last time this was pushed into that wall was 200 odd years ago!” It’s quite mind blowing isn’t? Pulling out the oats, reminded me of our living room ceiling coming down, with what seemed like kilos of oats up against the back outside wall, so much it seemed far too many to have been mice 😮
You did a great job on the wall, it looks beautiful! It really is a time consuming job isn’t but it’s also a job that you just get to zone out doing it! I, for one, didn’t find it boring at all watching you. I bet you thought of your dad and his work many many times ❤ I love your musings on the wall and how it was constructed and why certain things are like they are today, I’m with you on the fascination of it all!
Rob good job with the kitchen doors, it all looks very sleek! Ooh also I love your work table, that’s a great size for doing pretty much anything isn’t it. Wow, I bet that was a scary moment putting the stain on the doors after all the hardwork you did getting them on. It turned out pretty well though. Yes! The burnt Japanese look…that’s spot on. Hahaha I LOVE the spare summer look idea!
Aww Losty is a beauty! Every job is much nicer with a cat or two supervising and yep that pointing tool is just the right size for her too! ❤

Thanks guys, yes we are truly delighted and amazed at the kitchen we have created, can't quite believe it!
The stone wall is a labour of love, but I guess also a preservation of times gone by. Thankyou for such a lovely comment 💓

Tip: When you are staining, raw wood, use a sanding sealer. So that the wood takes the stain evenly. Especially when you're using light wood, that way, the finish will not be blotchy.Because wood takes the stain differently in different spots on the piece. I learned this a long time ago and it makes a huge difference in the finish. You won't get blotches of darker patches. Pine and lightwoods like birch, things like that definitely could use it. Makes the finish more uniform and looks better.

    Hi to you both,
Love the kitchen stain colour you chose.
I just got back from coming home to the UK., for several weeks, visiting and stocking up with goodies, especially my teabags. I was glad to get back to the wider motorways here in S.Carolina I must say.
Claire, you’ll love your finished kitchen, both of you will for sure. You can get something to attach the dishwasher so you just push it and it opens, so check around to see what available there. So love to see each weeks episode.
Have a good week both of you. Thank you for sharing . Maureen.

Clare ! An Aussie here and we had a famous bush ranger by the name of Ned Kelly ( born here in Victoria but his Dad was an Irishman) when Ned was eventually caught and hung some say his final words were “ Such is Life.” While you were talking about losing a day to the electrician you said “ Such is Life “ 😂 It made my day . Even though Ned was a criminal many loved him because he fought against the establishment that were very corrupt back in the day .

I look at the damp in the workshop and wonder how my parents / grandparents stayed warm and healthy in those old stone houses.
My mum's birth home (with 7 siblings lol!) was so bad that when they finally got a council house the farmer who was renting it to the family as a 'home' for the previous 15 years literally just took off the doors and was moving the cows straight in as soon as they had cleared their meagre belongings lol!I
It went from a home they had to pay rent for, to a cow shed instantly!
Probably because there was no running water and no electricity, and never had been lol!

It was, definitely a better idea to buy rather than build the carcasses - You would've likely been BURIED by that job when having to deal with pre-existing stuff like the counter top, cooker, fridge etc to factor into the build measurements and generally work around?

Wall looks great Clare, fab! Wow love to hear the underfloor heating works, I have to admit I had concerns, that's amazing. I expect to be embarking on a similiar journey soon. Fabulous stuff, following everything :)

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  2 месяца назад +1

Thanks :) Heats up pretty fast, much faster than our old wet underfloor which could have taken 10 hours to change a degree. This changes within 5 minutes. But our last floors has marble and im not sure how much insulation. As you know we only have concrete here, but massive insulation at 200mm. I would guess, that current thru wire is far faster than boiler pumping water to make temp changes. It also means thermostats are much more responsive to keep a constant temp rather than they old fluctuating water underfloor. Some evenings we'd be freezing and up the heating a degree or two only to come downstairs next morning to an inferno and have to open all windows... defo reccomend!

Is the stain also a sealant? If not I recommend a sealer for the kitchen area. The color though is gorgeous. It really anchors the room. And Clare you’re so very brave reaching into that big spider hole. Yikes. I couldn’t do that. The stonework looks very good though I’m sure it’s loads of work. Take care ✌️🤍 🥶
