  • This tutorial shows how to create realistic 3D water animations in Adobe After Effects, without the use of third-party plug-ins. Follow along to make a realistic ocean flyover, and then adjust the settings to customize your water animation as needed. This is a 3D effect, so you'll be able to move or animate your camera to orbit the waves, or move over them. Anyone can make this water effect, no experience necessary!
    If you need 3D water scenes with more customization options, you can check out these popular After Effects templates from Creation Effects:
    "Ocean" - Create realistic 3D bodies of water, made from real water footage. Ocean allows you to create custom, 3D bodies of water in Adobe After Effects. Choose from over 60 video water textures (or use your own), and convert them into oceans, lakes, ponds, rivers, and pools. Insert your titles, logo, or other 3D elements into your scene, and customize the water with convenient controls.

      Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I just had a look in v.2024, and it appears that the "Twist Angle" property is not as sensitive as it used to be. You have to turn it up about 10 full revolutions to see the waves.

    18:26 ... Ok, so I got my copy of After Effects as part of a school program, but for the life of me, I cannot find any function for "Effects & Masks" on anything. Does anyone know what's going on with that? (Or should I just assume that the copy I was given is broken in some way?)

      Is your texture moving, without the CC Ball Action effect? Make sure you have animated the "Evolution" property of the Turbulent Noise.

    Big thanks your tutorial 🥰 May I ask if I wanna let the water more light and glow ( make the top wave clear and stand up! ) what effect can I add? thank you!

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  9 месяцев назад

      The tricky thing is if you adjust the texture to make the ridges brighter, it will affect the shape of the water. I think your best chance is to add a Glow effect to the finished water effect. Use a low Radius, and lower the Threshold until just the ridges are bright. I haven't tried this, so I can't guarantee it'll work.

    How would you go about to animating waves from an illustration of waves?

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  11 месяцев назад

      Depends on the illustration, but I would probably break it up into multiple single waves, spread them out in 3D space, and give them random motion and perhaps warping.

    This tutorial provides the perfect solution to what I need to create, so thank you for such a detailed tutorial. However, I must be doing something wrong from the outset as when I apply the CC Ball Action to the Watetry (🙂) layer and set the Twist property to 'Brightness' the Solid remains flat and the whole layer rotates as a flat shape when I adjust the 'Twist Angle' the adjustment to this angle does not behave the same way as it does in your tutorial, do you have any idea with what I am doing wrong? Any additional guidance would be gratefully received.

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Andrew. Do you have a Turbulent Noise effect before the CC Ball Action effect, and is your "Twist Property" set to "Brightness"?

    • @andrewgray1169
      @andrewgray1169 8 месяцев назад

      Hi there, yes to both. I have the Turbulent Noise effect placed before the CC Ball Action and the Twist Property is set to Brightness. However, when I adjust the Twist Angle on this property it behaves like I am adjusting the Rotation? @@creationeffects

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  8 месяцев назад

      This could also be an issue of low contrast in your Turbulent Noise texture. The layer will rotate regardless of the texture - that is normal. But if different areas are not protruding when it rotates, try increasing the "Contrast" on the Turbulent Noise. @@andrewgray1169

    • @andrewgray1169
      @andrewgray1169 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for looking into this for me, it is very much appreciated. I am however not having much luck, I have followed (or so I thought) your tutorial by putting in the same values for each of the within each effect and it does not behave in the same way at all, even when I increase the 'Contrast' on the 'Turbulent Noise'. When I adjust the Twist Angle the solid just rotates as a flat plane - it must be something that I have missed along the way. I will start over from the top and see if I pick anything up along the way?@@creationeffects

    I have a question. It seem almost every tutorial I watch talk about the pc getting slow when resolution is up, does it mean we need a super computer to be able to have things run as it should at full rez? What is the maximum specs to freely use Ae without it slowing down.
    Ps. Great tutorial 👍

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  Год назад

      Well, nobody - even those with super fast computers - can preview an animation like this in real-time in After Effects, until they let it render first (i.e, let it cache the frames). But the time it takes to render varies greatly, depending on the computer. I wouldn't worry about it, even an old computer can do this - it'll just take longer to render, and longer to preview.

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  Год назад +3

      Thanks, Tariq. No, you can't really have anything interact with the water. If you want something floating in the water, you'd have to have two water layers - one in front of your floating object (foreground), and one behind it (background).

    Is there a way you can add a image overlay to the cc ball action as well as keeping the turbulent noise?

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  Год назад +1

      Not really. The closest thing to that would be to add a texture, and add a Displacement Map effect, with the CC Ball Action layer as its map.

    • @wintertondesign7603
      @wintertondesign7603 Год назад

      @@creationeffects Thank you for your response ! Also if your were to create a water line to show it splashing up against a screen/ lens for example. How could i go about that?

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  Год назад +1

      @@wintertondesign7603 I suppose what I would try is move the camera down so that it's more level with the water, and far enough back to show the front edge of the water layer. Then put a 2D water texture layer (maybe some underwater footage?), below the CC Ball Action layer. You would need to crop off any of the texture that's above the horizon line. Whether this approach works might depend on the angle that you're viewing the water at. If you're completely level with the water, you might need to put the texture layer above the water layer, and animate a mask to crop out everything above the water line.

      @@creationeffects Sorry to bother you, I just have one more question. With the expression of effect("Evolution Speed ")(1) I would like to make the waves loop and not sure how i will be able to do this?

    • @creationeffects
      @creationeffects  Год назад

      @@wintertondesign7603 Turbulent Noise doesn't have a loop feature, but you can swap it out with a Fractal Noise effect, and just copy all the existing expressions over. Then you can use the "Cycle Evolution" option in the Fractal Noise effect. Or, you can keep the turbulent noise effect and just loop the clip by fading the beginning into the ending. I show how to do it here: ruclips.net/video/uI5mbXnuzq4/видео.html

      @creationeffects  8 месяцев назад

      Hi Martin. I just did a test in AE 2024, and it does appear that the effect works a little differently now. From what I can tell, the Twist Angle control is just not as sensitive as it used to be. It still works the same way, but you may need to turn it way up - maybe 6 full revolutions - and then you should start to see the waves. @@MartinAlejandroLiguori
