Scandroid, the modern Synthwave project from Detroit based artist/producer Klayton, best known for his multi-genre project Celldweller, is Klayton’s love letter to the 80s.
The debut, self-titled album features 15 tracks, ranging from the driving instrumental energy of "Destination Unknown," to melodic vocal tracks like "Awakening With You," "Aphelion," and "Neo-Tokyo," rounded out with the cinematic epics "2517" & "Singularity." As a child of the 80s, Klayton has also included a cover of the classic Tears For Fears song "Shout," that he has been patiently waiting to cover since he first heard the song on U.S. radio in 1985. The digital album concludes with a bonus remix from synthwave artist Waveshaper. The 72 minute album depicts themes of a cyberpunk future where humans and sentient robots struggle to find a connection in their dystopian world.

Thematically, contrast this with Datastream, which is about finding fulfillment in the virtual. I love how immersive and thoughtful Klayton's musical universe has become.

Jo, das ist wirklich echt Schade. Grade bei mir in BW, ist der Anspruch an Musik nicht gerade hoch (zumindest in meiner Gegend nahe Stuttgart). Die meisten hören leider den ganzen Mainstream Müll. Kaum muss man bei irgendwas auch nur ETWAS nachdenken oder hat keine ultimativen Beats, und schon ist alles total langweilig :/

Most of Scandroid's slower songs, (this one according to a couple websites clocks in at 75 BPM), such as Oblivia (90 BPM), and a few others I can't remember seem to sound a bit better a little faster. I think it's cuz at about 1.25x speed, they add up to around the same speed as most of the other songs of theirs, around the 110-130 range.
Neo-Tokyo, on the other hand, breaks this observation; it's 110 BPM according to a couple sites, I haven't tapped it out myself because I can't find a reliable tool and don't have a metronome handy but at 137.5 BPM on 1.25x speed it's the faster, yet slower sounding one of the bunch.
That's because the BPM on Connection is counted only on the second beat. You need to double it, this is at 150, which is why it's really driving :)

the entire album is based on the future of humanity as robots become super intelligent. Some people think the advancements are going to far, others welcome them. This is portrayed in "Probots and the Robophobes". Meanwhile, the songs are sung from the perspective of one of the robots, who seems to have gained human emotions, especially love.
In keeping with the theme of the album, it's probably about a self-aware, virtual entity that wants to go beyond the realm of the virtual to have a human connection with someone out in the real (meat) world. There's an allegory here with people who are seeking connection but are unable to find it and substitute it with hedonistic pursuits (such as video games, in this video) but would gladly leave it at the drop of a hat if it meant a genuine connection with someone out in the real world.
