@@almas4663Wait. 8 episodes an hour each would be about 24 episodes of the original animation (I think there, episodes are 20ish minutes)? That's awesome. I think the biggest problem with movies adapting books, or in this case, shows, is the short screen time, which forces creators to cut out and change things. ARE PEOPLE REALLY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE THICKNESS OF THE STAFF!?!?!? 💀. People like that are gonna hate on this show regardless if it’s a masterpiece or not if something like that upsets them
Avatar: TLA is where my love of Martial Arts, their artistry and prowess, their beauty and devastating lethality, began. If they cant capture that, its a flop. People remember things like that.
I'm really excited for this, it seems we'll be getting a new perspective on the Avatar-verse. And even if it's bad, we've still got the original series.
I really hope this is good I really do. But I'm gonna keep my expectations low, I still worry about stuff that just ruin adaptations, fantasy or any form of viewing experience as of lately. But man would be awesome to see ALA like this and as good as the original and if its somehow better man even better.
Not to mention Netflix's reputation nowadays, but they did well with certain shows like Stranger Things & as long as they're serious about this show, which it seems they are, then i have hope this will live up accordingly. My personal biggest worry is when a director trying to adapt a given piece of fiction also simultaneously takes adavantage & tries to change it to more or less reflect their own personal opinions or ideas of how the show should be like as opposed to how it originally was supposed to be like, for instance with the first adaptation made by M. Night Shyamalan, it was clear what he was trying to do, he gave no regard for creating an authentic ALA universe & characters, he altered it to be what he wanted it to be. It takes a person who has true respect & admiration of what it is they are trying to adapt to truly accomplish a successful adaptation, if the director in question can't or doesn't understand the appeal to a given piece of fiction or genre, better they just step aside or they'll just embarrass themselves.
@@alexsurber3424 Well the show's creator left due to 'creative differences' which means the suits probably tried to change some bullshit that they didn't like, therefore left.
@@alexsurber3424 I'm cautiously optimistic because "Wednesday" and "One Piece" were good Netflix shows and the Netflix recent track record, aside from The Witcher, has been pretty good. .
@@bluelunarmonkeytarot8533 that is the worry, but one can only hope, Netflix is spending very big money over this, most they ever spent on any show they have ever made apparently, so we'll see what happens, there are some bad signs but there are good signs as well.
One thing I hope they can do better in the live action then the cartoon did is azula’s mental collapse, in the cartoon it’s so sudden and there isn’t really and build up to it, so I hope that the live action has places where it shows Azula’s weakness and mental instability
There doesn't need to be any build up. The point is to show that she's psychotic. The voice alone in the cartoon told me she was insane. The fact she's the fire lords daughter and a royal. Her fighting abilities. Everything from the second she steps in shows she's a psycho. Only those who don't fully understand human nature wouldn't be able to see it.
Did you not watch the cartoon? No build up? Since she struck Aang at the Earth Kingdom, she started to break down. That’s quite literally where we see for the first time, she genuinely doesn’t care. She’s been breaking down slowly, since we saw her from that point. What are you yapping about? The boyfriend episode? Are we not going to speak about her mental breakdowns during that episode?
@@bluelunarmonkeytarot8533 yea everyone knows that she is psychotic, but her personality was always to be perfect, seeing her hallucinate and cry for the first time is exactly the opposite of what she was the entire series, people do not go from a perfectionist to an unstable flame with no self awareness, if you want to disagree more you can tell it to the big dogs over at OverAnalyzing Avatar
Idk if you covered this but Daniel Dae Kim had an interview about 8 months ago I think where he states that there’s going to be a lot of humor so that gave me peace in knowing it wouldn’t be too serious.
Netflix lately has been killing it with their casting choices for their main characters. Jenna Ortega was great in "Wednesday" and Iñaki Godoy was amazing as Luffy in "One Piece". I have faith the actor playing Aang will be great in the role.
Honestly they could easily transition the series to take place over a few of years. Katara becoming a master waterbender seemingly over night nevermade much sense to me especially when she did struggle in the beginning. Netflix generally likes to announce new seasons after getting the viewer numbers.
They only made the show take place over 1 year bc in animation, it’s easier to have the same character models across all the seasons. However, live action is the opposite, because they naturally age, so I bet the show will start three years before sozins comet
@@gaylordcomicthat wouldn’t make any sense though. We got our adventures beacuse ang was in a rush and had to travel to point A to point B. If the series took place in 3 years 80% of the series wouldn’t happend. Ang would just master each element for an year and go clap ozai
@@genessab I don’t think it would suffer if they had more time. It would only show how much the team has procrastinated. If done right, it could make even more sense than the original. Only time will tell if live action will be better or worse..
Netflix has said this for a while now that they want this to be their Game of Thrones. That's one of the reasons why they wanted to make a live action adaptation for Avatar: The Last Airbender. And if they manage to make somethinng that is not only faithful but a well written extension of the source material, they just might have that. No surprise that they're going all out for the show.

Love love love this! Looks amazing , truly like the animated version brought to life! Big props and kudos to all involved in making this and getting it done. - with a little less than a month away it’s so exciting to see all of these teasing trailers,, I’d literally pay to watch it sooner. (I know that’s not possible but that’s just how exciting it is.) 🤩😍
honestly I still love the little details with Aang his arrow tattoo's and his Glider Staff detail is cool like the air symbol on the staff is pretty neat tho I wonder how the hole glider will look like but even so everything looks great
Appeal to the new generation of viewers spells bad news considering the original show creators left the Netflix adaptation over creative differences. The original show was literally perfect just adapt what was on the show onto the big screen. My guess is the writers are going to go full Witcher story rewrites for this show.
the staff aang holds in the frontal shot could be from back when aang was in his home temple so that might not even be his glider, just a monks staff? or maybe when they return to aangs home temple in the series aang finds Monk Gyatso's staff? so its not his glider that's why its different
Embrace this change adaptations, my friends, for within its currents lie the seeds of positive transformation. Like a tea steeping in hot water, let life's changes enrich your journey, bringing forth unexpected and delightful flavors. 🍵 - Uncle Iroh
My only concern is that they may cut important episodes for “budget purposes”. In this day and age, there’s really no excuse to remake a series and leave out things the original series has. If the viewers add up, they will have the money to afford it and can not be so stingy with it. I know there are people who will disagree with me, but there have been series that are not successful for their remakes BECAUSE they cut that content out and end up canceling. Some fans will hold high expectations for remakes to honor their original and keep it to the T if not incorporate it somehow. I’m excited for sure. But this is Netflix. If they don’t get their unrealistic expectations of audience they want, they will cancel it and that will be the last straw for me and cancel my subscription with them. I’m sick of that crap they pull. And I’m pretty sure that what they want won’t be enough for them even if it does hit the budget and more to keep the show going only because not enough people watched it 😑
I hope they make it more serious. The goofball animation antics don't translate well into live action. Just look at the One Piece show. Many liked that show for the exact reason i couldn't stand it. The characters weren't realistic at all, and copied their anime counterpart too hard, which broke all immersion for me. Live action warrants more realism from it's characters. It just does.
if its anything in quality scale to PJO on disney im excited. i have issues with that show as im an adept book fan, but its amazing none the less, the issues are easy to wave when i consider the things that have made it amazing so far. so the good can out weigh the bad.
I never finished the series when I was a kid , but I’m watching it all now at the age of 29 , and I think it’s great , I think I’d definitely be an EarthBender I love the stomp kick the earth bender does in the intro … that’s badass makes the think of MKX Tremor !
I hope by appealing to a new generation they don't mean adding unnecessary strong female, black, Latinx, and LGBTQ characters in world based on historical East Asian culture.

And that’s why One piece takes the trophy (for now at least) even if ATLA is better. They're like chess and checkers. Played on the same gaming board, but still two completely separate games
Just because its a big production doesnt mean it will be good. Im holding my breath for this. The original creators left the team soooo i seriously doubt it will be what most people are looking for. Lol them saying its for a "new generation of viewers doesnt inspire hope. Sounds like ut will be "woke". Ill at least watch the first episode tonsee how it goes. Hopefully im wrong and its amazing tho again im not holding my breath with how most of the entertainment has been going the past 5 years.
Am i the only one that thinks Zuko's scar looks awful? Just looks like makeup, not burned skin at all! And Aang's glider has the smallest wings ive ever seen... smallish details, i hope it doesnt bother me too much.
The shot of aang in the thumbnail could be when he was in the air temple and found monk gyatso’s body post genocide after Katara walked in and asked sokka what’s going on
Can we all agree that if it turns out to be shit we chuck it down the same hole that we threw 'the movie that shall not be named' Cuz i think the movie that shall not be named is getting pretty lonely down their
Now after the success of the one piece live action, I'm less inclined to believe this show will fail but unlike one piece this avatar series won't have its creators running the show. Oda made sure to be actively involved to make sure one piece was as faithful as possible. They did not do the in the production of avatar
Remember the episode were they watched a play of the avatar and toph was a buff dude 😂 the dude who plays sokka in that play kinda looks like the live action sokka ngl
It is cool that they have access to an parallel universe in which there was a previous live-action adaptation of this series so that they cna learn from its mistakes.
I actually like Avatar 2010 movie.I think the casting was really good , and the music and special effects were great. The biggest problem was that , they put all first season of Avatar the last airbander , into one 1hrs .30 min movie.Which was so bad.
How was the casting for the movie good? They casted white actors to play Asian and Inuit characters and South Asian actors to play East Asian characters. Nothing was accurate.
5:55 Nope. Correction, no beef (weird statement to say in the first place). The designs look so similar, almost uncanny that it would even be infringement. So I will only assume that Avatar Studios gave Netflix permission to use that design... along with other designs. Because that's what happened. What literally, actually happened. According to a source from another A:TLA video I saw, Bryke and Avatar Studios buried the hatchet of their differences and gave Netflix/Albert Kim permission to use some Avatar Studios original design.
Can we all stop a moment... this 14 year old is supposed to have a love interest with a 17 year old? When she turns 18, he'll still only be 15. Sure the age difference isn't that bad. But tell me any 18 year old woman that wants a 15 year old boy?
B-better? BETTER?! what the fuck!! Avatar was awesome how it was and they think they couod make it better in serious or funny parts? No way. And do remmember what happened last time Netflix promised to keep up with original source. Witcher ended as disaster
The fact that that trash of a live action movie couldn't even get some of the names right 😡 this is looking amazing to me. I adore the original series so much, so I'm really excited to see what they've done.
First live actions movies are very thrilled although so many lack about its makings, coz it's really matter for die hard fans to wait it produced. But it's fair enough waiting for more perfectly made 'The Last Air bender ' movies ❤
ATLA is not a kids' show. The original is damn near perfect, more than anything else I've seen. They need to stop trying to "appeal" and just make greatness. Fans will follow greatness, not "appeal."
It is a kids show and there's nothing wrong with that lol. The important thing to remember is that the show doesn't talk down to kids. Children can still understand when something is real or true, when something is serious and impactful, or lessons profound. With that in mind the creators were able to delve deep into the characters and themes of the show, making it not only enjoyable for children but for adults as well. When adults can enjoy a kids show you know they did a great job.
Balance between humour and seriousness is hard to do so i hope they do it well. If they make it too serious, they wont seem like people and it will just look ridiculous.
Yeah I feel pretty skeptical about that. Something people tend to ignore is how cartoon characters are so much more expressive than real people, and live action adaptation actors have to work really hard to achieve that level of expressiveness- especially child actors. I really hope the director put in the work with the kids to help them feel confident enough to be fully expressive or this whole thing is gonna be so awkward
Knowing this I'm more confident in the series live action being successful. Considering how much of a success the animated series was, and the clusterfuc* of a 'film'. Netflix is taking a huge gamble with this and a lot is at stake for them. They knew that if they screw this up there's going to be a lot of backlash and a lot of investment could be lost.
This show means so much to me. And my entire town in a way it may not for others. Zach went to high school with me so we grew up watching as it aired and felt a lot of pride knowing he was the voice behind arguably one of the best shows ever made. I was so disappointed, and frankly offended by the original live action. It was truly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It's not like some of the inaccuracies we've seen in movie franchises like hunger games and harry potter. There is literally a show M. Knight had access to to base the movie on. To get the names, fundamentals of how bending works, and change the characters personalities was unacceptable. Even in all the portrayals of Batman that span decades worth of movies, the core of the character regardless of actor, remains the same. Bruce is always kind of a dick, cocky, and white. M. Knight decided to make main character who is both colored, and the main comedic relief - and cast a white male and write a verison that has no humor. And please know this is no slight on Jackson Rathbone. The writing is not his fault and he's actually really funny in interviews. The original movie was so so incredibly poorly done. The fire nation being almost entire comprised of Indian decent actors made no sense. Dev patel is excellent as were the actors cast alongside him as fire nation soldiers. But even the creators of the show have expressed where each nation got their influence of conception from. The fire nation is based on Japan. All the characters names from the fire nation are Japanese. Zuko....? Firelord Ozai.....? Also, Ba Sing Se literally means indestructible city in chinese. Water tibes, I can't argue for as I don't know what eskimo and inuit names would sound like. But being Asian myself, and from what I know of Japanese and Chinese - Sokka, Katara, Noatuk sound similar to Native American intonations for names we learned about in US history. Given that, M. Knight truly ignored an entire series that was written and created with respect to the cultures it drew inspiration from - and said - mmmmm, nooo we're gonna change everything. I'm sorry to rant but this movie actually infuriated me. I'm so excited for the new version and so happy the new cast was appropriately chosen. Netlfix recognized how important this show is and (hopefully) cut no corners
"Noatuk " has a ring of sounding like an Inuit name, as does other characters like "Ujuraq", "Siku" and "Atuat". On the other hand, "Sokka", "Katara", "Korra", Tarrlok" and "Yue" not so much.
@@keith6706 Thank you for your input, I'm admittedly most confidently familiar with Korean, Japanese, and Chinese names and pronunciation. So, if I was wrong thank you for the correction. That said, the original movie still didn't honor any of these cultures nor origins of their names. Like literally Aangs name was pronounced incorrectly..... again, it's not like some adaptations that had only books to go off of...there literally is a cannon show in existence to base the entirety of any future iterations on. It's similar to Ghost in The Shell with ScarJo. I'll be honest, I do actually like her and the writing was poor, but she also just never should have auditioned for the part. Especially in 2024 we need to stop casting characters to play a different race, but particularly when cannon material exists - and writers/directors blatantly disregard it, that's just pure laziness and lack of care to OG fans This show is one of a kind. Naruto is one of few after Sailor Moon I can think of, with the same impact in its time. But Avatar more so because it was the bridge for a lot of Americans who didn't grow up watching anime, become more more receptive to animation and not only gravitate towards western styles. While techincally Avatar is not an anime, it was the closest to back then with maybe only Lyoko coming close. I grew up with dbz, rurouni kenshin, tenchi muyo etc., so I grew up hiding my love for anime. And a lot of peope my age who were on the other side, thought those shows were "nerdy". Avatar changed that. Literally everyone loves the show. And so many of those classmates who told me anime was dumb back then - fell in love with Avatar and have since reached out to both apologize, and ask for show recommendations.
Girllllll ain’t no way people are pointing out the staff thickness or even getting mad at it. That’s just nitpicking at that point like bro it’s supposed to be sturdy.
The only thing I liked about the Avatar movie was the tattoo on Ang and feel the intricate patterns in the tattoo we're seeing in this live action can enrich the character if done right.

It looks like a lot of money is being put into this series.
After 9 years since Korra ended we're finally getting something Avatar again. So glad we're in this timeline
That is until they rush it and ruin the pacing. I'm just going to stick to the original.

6:31 I love the new picture of Aang. Getting a better and closer look at him 😍
I'm glad they are taking it seriously and using M. Night's movie as an example of what not to do
Ok.
Avatar: TLA is where my love of Martial Arts, their artistry and prowess, their beauty and devastating lethality, began. If they cant capture that, its a flop. People remember things like that.
Starting to look like they nailed it.
Bro this show is gonna be fire
@@vividly94yeah everyone keeps skipping over that fact thinking it will be okay. I expect this will turn out like the Kevin smith he-man.
I liked how sudden it was
It was like it had always been inside her but she just snapped
@@bluelunarmonkeytarot8533 yea everyone knows that she is psychotic, but her personality was always to be perfect, seeing her hallucinate and cry for the first time is exactly the opposite of what she was the entire series, people do not go from a perfectionist to an unstable flame with no self awareness, if you want to disagree more you can tell it to the big dogs over at OverAnalyzing Avatar
Did we watch the same show?
Idk if you covered this but Daniel Dae Kim had an interview about 8 months ago I think where he states that there’s going to be a lot of humor so that gave me peace in knowing it wouldn’t be too serious.
I think we're all so ready to see this trailer...
I also don't want a one to one show ..
I'm super excited
Aang just looks so frickin amazing. That is literally THE PERFECT cast, looks-wise. I am so excited for this series.
Netflix lately has been killing it with their casting choices for their main characters. Jenna Ortega was great in "Wednesday" and Iñaki Godoy was amazing as Luffy in "One Piece". I have faith the actor playing Aang will be great in the role.
Very interesting….I’m actually excited to watch it!
But I do have a question about your essay here. When was ATLA ever “…too serious…”?
Let’s gooo!!! I’m so excited!! Any info on shooting season 2? They need to film it before the actor start getting too old.
@@elisitbon4672that’s not the reason.. the reason is because of the insane time pressure it puts on the group, it’s for plot.
Genuinely so exited for February 22nd
My bet is that the trailer is coming out on the 22nd of January, give or take a day. Exactly a month before the final release.
I think it's gonna be similar to Stranger Things and Lost In Space where it's a blend of two.
Man the VFX feels so much like Lord of the Rings. I hope the show lives up to it too.
I just hope they say the names right in the netflix version 🙏🏿
i’m 100% sure they will because the actors actually pronounce their character just like in the OG series whenever they did an interview or promos.
I am ung and i am the avahtar
There is one trailer 'course It's fan-made, but the voice is beginning with Avatar Roku and he is saying - "I know you can do it AANG" Thank goodness. Seriously chills)) throughout the whole video
A full scale fire nation war perhaps like an army marching
That would be awesome
That is a really good picture of aang. Without all of that hair I can just imagine him listening to the ancient sounds through the wind.
This is either going to be the best live action Netflix has done or it’ll be just a bit better than the movie
Let’s hope that it will be at least as good as OP live action
What do you mean a bit better lol they got everything wron there is a lot of things and one of them was THEY GOT THE NAMES WRONG well they said them wrong and it sucks I got so annoyed
My rule of thumb: if the original creators arent given full creative control, it will flop
1:43 whoever said "water, earth, air and fire" couldn't even be bothered to learn the incredibly simple order... And I do not at all trust Kim with that "it's true to the 'spirit' of the original but also my own spin on it, what do you mean the creators left because it wasn't ' Avatar'?!"
The Stranger Things and Los in Space have one of the best looking CGI effects I have ever seen. These guys are so good
Yeees!!!!! Also, Lost In Space always reminds me of ATLA because of the MC. Also, I like that it's a family show, it has humor and serious tone in it.
Love love love this! Looks amazing , truly like the animated version brought to life! Big props and kudos to all involved in making this and getting it done.

Same. The detailed tattoo is the only thing I liked about the Avatar movie.
Appeal to the new generation of viewers spells bad news considering the original show creators left the Netflix adaptation over creative differences. The original show was literally perfect just adapt what was on the show onto the big screen. My guess is the writers are going to go full Witcher story rewrites for this show.
the staff aang holds in the frontal shot could be from back when aang was in his home temple so that might not even be his glider, just a monks staff? or maybe when they return to aangs home temple in the series aang finds Monk Gyatso's staff? so its not his glider that's why its different
no
the mix of extreme humor break aways and the extremely seriousious is what made the show good
Embrace this change adaptations, my friends, for within its currents lie the seeds of positive transformation.
And I’m pretty sure that what they want won’t be enough for them even if it does hit the budget and more to keep the show going only because not enough people watched it 😑
cry about it
All of Aang's hair went to his eyebrows.
i wouldn't mind a little bit of a serious take on this. i think it would probably add more depth to the characters and the overall story.
@@Celeborn93ok.

The problem with Avatar is that you need an insanely good child/teenage actor. He is the core of the story.
I hope by appealing to a new generation they don't mean adding unnecessary strong female, black, Latinx, and LGBTQ characters in world based on historical East Asian culture.

It is cool that they have access to an parallel universe in which there was a previous live-action adaptation of this series so that they cna learn from its mistakes.
They should cast the Rock as the boulder

They literally confirmed they using Shyamalan's movie as an example of what not to do. 💀💀💀💀

The fact that that trash of a live action movie couldn't even get some of the names right 😡 this is looking amazing to me. I adore the original series so much, so I'm really excited to see what they've done.
Ya there better not screw up
First live actions movies are very thrilled although so many lack about its makings, coz it's really matter for die hard fans to wait it produced.
Me and my Tea are ready🍵❤️
poor M. Night Shyamalan Avatar hahaha...I remember watching it in 3D after school :) hahaha
they even got Aang's ears right nice attention to details I guess😂😂😂(Aang's ears were mentioned to be big by a girl once forgot her name)
It looks to me like the arrows between Aang's head and the website are just flipped, pretty much the same lol
"The stick is a little too thick"
If people complain about tiny things like this then I guess it can't be all to bad!
Ok.
The VFX was >absolutely< a problem with the live action movie. Visually it looked fine, but the animation and timing was way off.
It looks insane! I need this show. I'm more excited for this than for the next Stranger Things season which is my favorite show there so far.
Love your channel bro
Especially in 2024 we need to stop casting characters to play a different race, but particularly when cannon material exists - and writers/directors blatantly disregard it, that's just pure laziness and lack of care to OG fans
This show is one of a kind.
