Welcome to the Letterman RUclips Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. These highlights have been artisanly-produced, carefully-curated, and chosen completely at random by an old computer that used to pick numbers for the New York Lotto back in the 90’s.
1:44 The best part is the way Barry says: "I dont wanna die, David.
I think George may have repurposed that "Barry White's voice attracts snakes" thing for the Whacking Day episode of the Simpsons. Also they neglected to stress the importance of checking for ticks after being in the woods.
The writers on The Simpsons say he’s one of the best.
That if jokes were home runs, he hit the most. Coming up with the best classic sounding lines.
For example he came up with:
“Hey you, let’s fight!”
“Them’s fightin’ words!!!”
"That wasn't part of our deal, Blackheart! That wasn't part!"
My favorite is when Sideshow Luke Perry gets blasted out a cannon, flies over the safety net, through a window, through the Museum of Sandpaper, through the Kwik-E-Mart and a display tower of acid, and safely lands in the pillow factory.... only to have it implode.
all of these segments were so very dumb and I love them with all of my heart. It's nice to see some of these writers talk about their favorite bits. Thank you, Dave. Thank you, Team Letterman. Thank you, World's Largest Vase. Your message has not been forgotten.
George also pitched the idea for "Whacking Day", also featuring Barry White and snakes.
Love these clips. Keep the letterman content coming.
George Meyer is a comedy legend. There should be a statue of him somewhere, other than the one I have in my living room.
Derek. Can I sleep on your couch. Please.
@@heavycheck57 yes
I think Ames IA would make a nice spot
Camping With Barry White is a fond memory for me. Hazy, but fond!
Now I know the origins of "no problems here," "I love the sexy slither of a lady snake," the Rube Goldberg -like progression of the fire in Homer the Heretic, and Poochie's parting words. Surprising how iterative comedy writing is. Even the best have their favored formulae.
There is a kind of pre-internet innocense and charm to old these old installments of Late Night that escape today's Late fare. Im lucky to have lived and enjoyed those times.
I love when Barry stifles a laugh at 1:29.
George Meyer, the Army Man (America's only magazine), also writer of 12 classic Simpsons episodes.
I still have a $10 check from him that he sent when he had to cancel Army Man so he would have time for the Simpsons job.. Of course it was never cashed.
George seems like a writer's dream... Having a smart/dry sense of humor is my personal fave. "Comedy" - Mark Normand👍
Great stuff! I love these staff favorite compilations with the behind-the-scenes stories.
GEORGE MEYER? God, i almost spat out my drink. THAT guy...genius. I'm freaked out yo. Funniest ever, ever.
The talking vase has much to teach us, if we will only listen.
OMG - the sequence with the talking vase - so bizarre and fantastic.
Oh man this was great. I hope we see more like this.
Hey, I know that guy who was Over-Inflating all those toys. He brought back that shredded volleyball and it hung up in a local bar in Piermont for years.
"David, my leg". 😂
Funny. Its clip like these that remind me of why that show was fun to watch for several years.
Read about George Meyer in Adam Grant's "Give and Take". Excellent read and George is a great guy.
‘Linoleum of doom’. 😂
13:30 Daniel Stern can't keep it together. Show some respect for the World's Largest Vase. Geez.
The Praying Hands Raceway. Forgot about that one. Comedy gold.
Oh wow, Barry White later came in an episode of the Simpsons.... also involved SNAKES! That's awesome!
Thanks Dave and Team for putting this on! amazing..the best
The New Yorker had a profile of Mr. Meyer some years back. I think the title was "The funniest man in America".
I can’t help but think how less terrible a place the world would be now if we had heeded the World’s Largest Vase’s message.
DAVID LETTERMAN/PAUL SHAFFER.... two of the greatest guys on late night T.V in the Eighties.Love them, please, keep em' coming.
George seems like a cool guy to hangout with. I was hoping Toast on a Stick was one of his gags. Another video on that one, perhaps?

Toast on a Stick was the brainchild of Merrill Markoe’s brother Glenn, who is unfortunately no longer with us.
@@dongiller Ah, thanks Donz.
I heard "and it kind of" in slow motion as the end screen video came up.
13:30 It's Daniel Stern. The Home Alone guy.
Love Dave's Adidas Country's.what a great shoe.
I never realized how much a young Will Lee resembled Paul Revere of Paul Revere & the Raiders.
Whoah, Don, do you have a budget now to fly in guests? This is awesome! How about a Spiderman multi-verse interview where both Dwights each give us their take on this deeply troubled character.
Not Don. :)
@@dongiller Ah well, it was worth throwing out there. Hey, whoever is running the show here, If both Dwights could somehow appear in a new episode of Biff Henderson's Realm Of Mystery, this new channel would break the internet. I'll waive my consulting fee :)
It's nice to see that he finally outgrew the Amish haircut.
Nothing like seeing Dave in the bad hair days. Suddenly, I feel like listening to Motely Crue again.
In case of a Barry White emergency walkie talkies can also be a life saver. But they could have almost no base response. That's why this design has a powerful 5 inch woofer attached to it. Hello Barry? ......(Barry's deep voice blasts through the woofer).....😂😂 2:27
I liked the steam roller bit
Pretty sure you meant Walk on the Wild Side, Paul…
Guy’s hilarious
Huh, I wonder if the premise of The Simpsons episode Whacking Day (guest starring Barry White) was spun off of this idea. Wikipedia says "It was pitched by George Meyer, who wanted to create an episode against the mistreatment of snakes."
Hilarious. Hadn't seen some of these.
Is George from Seatlle? He has a map on the wall.
I looked it up. No, but he lives there.
We need Paul and the actor/singer!
Hey, that's Keith Richard's drummer!
Steve was Lettermans drummer FIRST
Steve Jordan?! Is there anyplace he hasn't been?
rattle snake aint no joke lol
Did Barry really know what he was getting himself into, and did he condone this bafoonery? We may never know.
Music is gone.
