Great topic. Always reminds me back from World of Warcraft.
There are a lot of tributes in the game world but the one that always stayed with me was the one where kid go to make a quest for the game he so loved.
I believe to this day this quest is still playable in its unaltered form named "Kyle's gone missing"
Bob Denver truly was an awesome guy.
Another example was when he went to bat for Dawn Wells ("Maryanne") and Russell Johnson ("The Professor"). Dawn Wells herself told the story on a behind the scenes video I watched.
The theme song of the show listed 5 of the characters by name and the other 2 as "the rest" during season 1. Bob Denver didn't like them being excluded like that so he went to the network and asked that they be included in the theme song because they were just as much a part of the show as everyone else.
The network refused, saying that it wouldn't fit into the musical score. After confirming that his contract stated that he could have whatever billing he wanted, he told them that if they wouldn't include the Professor and Maryann in the group with everyone else then he wanted to be part of "the rest". So the network included everyone in the song for the remainder of the series

When I worked at Knott's Berry Farm, we got lots of Make-A-Wish kids. The standing policy was that if a Make-A-Wish kid came to a ride, they got to cut to the front and ride as often as they wanted. One day, this kid apparently really liked the ride and kept yelling "Again, again!" and so I ran it over and over for him. After the 3rd time, this irate lady right at the front of the queue began to scream that it wasn't fair, they had been waiting for 45 minutes, and now they had to wait even longer for one kid.
We were not allowed to tell anyone outright that a child was from Make-A-Wish, but sometimes it was pretty clear, especially if there were volunteers in t-shirts there to help the family. That was the case this time. So I told her, "His wish is to come here and ride. I think we can grant him that."
She bellowed out, "I don't care if he dies tomorrow, we paid to come to Knott's and we've been waiting 45 minutes! Kick him off!"
I had half a mind to chew her out, but I was busy monitoring the ride, plus I didn't want to get fired. Everyone else in the queue stayed quiet... that is, until the kid was done and had moved on. Suddenly, the queue erupted with enraged parents calling this lady a disgrace, teenagers calling her names I can't repeat, even little kid telling her she's "a bad mommy." Literally everyone turned against her, to the point where I had to get on the speaker to calm them all down. I was worried that it might literally turn into a riot.
They demanded that I kick her out of the line, but I didn't. She was 3rd from the front, and I let her and her kid ride (the kid did nothing wrong after all). However, as they were leaving I blocked her at the exit and quietly told her, "I pray you NEVER face what that poor family has suffered. Enjoy your time with your kid, because they won't get to for much longer."
Part of me hopes every ride they went on had at least one family from that queue to razz her and torture her conscience. Or that every ride was one the Make-A-Wish kid also went on, to make her wait constantly and teach her poor child a lesson in patience and empathy.
I have full respect for people who go out of their way to make the dreams of these kids a reality, and utter disdain for anyone so selfish that they yell at a child dying of cancer because they have to wait an extra 5 minutes in a queue.
As a coaster nerd I want to know which ride it was.
@@katashworth41 Gr8 Sk8, no longer there, and thank goodness. The ride operators took lots on who was unlucky enough to test it in the morning. Kids loved it, adults left with whiplash, bruising, and swearing never to ride it again. I love roller coasters, but that ride wasn't "fun" at all. It was a lawsuit for spinal injury waiting to happen.

Don't know if it's true or not.
A Make a Wish child (they were a tween, I think) had his family trying to convince him to choose something they wanted to do instead of something he would have enjoyed. So when the time came for the decision, he purposely sabotaged his chance by choosing something illegal (it was illegal then, anyway.)

My brother was a MAW kid back in 1986. His wish was much simpler - to spend 2 weeks in Kentucky and West Virginia with family (our dad's side). Everything was paid for - they even included ”fun” money - and it was the first time my brother and I were on an airplane. My brother died about a year and a half later at the age of 18 from AIDS, having been infected with HIV through the medication used to treat his hemophilia. I'm grateful for Make A Wish and the time we had together as a family, without the financial aspect of the trip raising its ugly head. (We couldn't afford the trip otherwise.)
I'm a woman and living with my dude for 23 years. I have never and would never make him get rid of his stuff much less his childhood stuff I'm not interested in. That is incredibly selfish and incredibly insensitive. I wonder what the guy's gf got rid of for him. Probably nothing.
Best part of this vid is the Final fantasy 8 art in the background 👌. Not as good as 7 of course but a fantastic game nevertheless.

The song "Theif" was written about a wish child whose wish was to meet the band. They spent the entire day with her and they became friends who stayed in touch. They wrote the song when she died
You didn't point out that the family also gets in on the trips. The family I worked with went to Hawaii. Something the family could not afford. It gave the family great memories when things didn't go well.
Well, to be honest about the Gilligan's Island issue. They were rescued, TWICE actually. But the series only lasted one season with the new idea.
That's because it sucked. I watched a couple of episodes because Gilligan's Island was my favourite show as a kid (I was in grade 3 when it was cancelled) but hated the new show.

I think that there was a problem with the parents for a time saying that “Little Johnny wants to go to the beach for his make a wish” when in reality he wanted to go to Disney. And I think that Make a wish now pulls the kid aside to make double sure that the kid gets what they really want.
When I was a kid, I had a brain tumor and then developed (and still have) hydrocephalus. While I the hospital for brain surgery, i got to meet and was included in a tv spot with then-Boston Bruin Terry O'Reilly. (I'm doing all right now)

Simon and the owner of the channel parted ways. She posted a video about it going into greater detail. Basically her dad, who owned the channel passed away and she was thrust into learning the business and admits she didn't do a great job at it. New business, new challenges all on top of a devastating loss. It's understandable that some things got complicated. It was an amicable split though.

I'm rather astonished that your friend's girlfriend didn't want him playing Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh and made him give away the cards. Those things are expensive! And Magic is an awesome game! I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh myself, but I know many enjoy it. By the way, Karl, I always look for Snoot in the videos. And the Final Fantasy 8 poster is great.

Make a Wish pushed a bunch of furniture on my daughter because they were not doing trips at the time because of covid. They made it sound like they were just doing something nice and didn't disclose that it would be considered to be her wish. They forged my and my wifes signature on a form that acknowledged that her wish had been granted. No other wish granting organization wants to grant her wish now because of this. She wanted to go and dance with Moana. Now thats not going to happen. Some day memories is all I will have. That opportunity for something great has turned into a disappointment that I will never forget.
Send your charitable donations somewhere else. Most of your money goes to administration, not granting wishes.
Another wierd thing that happened before finding out about the forged documents is all of the items were sent to my grandmothers last known address before she passed. My daughter is named after her. (Same first and last name) No mention of my grand mother had been made. After we got to the bottom of it I had to go to an empty house every day for a week. Hike through knee deep snow carrying heavy furniture a total of about 80 yards. The entire thing has been a complete sh!t show.

Feeding 80 people once a month for 12 months is not very impressive. Good on the little boy. Make a wish not so much
I just spent 500 dollars to feed my family of four for two weeks.
And it's not like we are talking about Amazon or something. It's a non profit organization that does nothing but give stuff to sick kids.
The fact that they were able to get that much going is more impressive than you are giving them credit for.

It was every 3 weeks, so about 17 times in a year, not 12. And while sure they could have spent more, it’s more than would have been fed if they didn’t do anything at all. And who knows? Maybe he’s from a small town where they don’t have many homeless. If there are only 100 homeless people in the entire town, feeding 80 of them is doing pretty well I’d say.
I’m sure those 80 people are very thankful.

Another Make-A-Wish child wanted to go hunting more recently, but they refused. Ted Nugent stepped in though like the legend he is, & took the kid hunting on his ranch.
Ted Nugent wrote a song called Jail Bait that's about how badly he wants to r*pe a 13 year old. It's cool that he stepped in for that kid, but I wouldn't call him a legend.
