  • Scotland is the northernmost of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. Together with England and Wales, it is part of the island of Great Britain, covering one third of its total area; It also consists of more than 790 islands, of which about 40 are inhabited.
Scotland is bordered to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the east by the North Sea, to the south by England and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. The Scottish territory is dominated by mountains, with Mount Ben Nevis, 1,344 meters high, as the highest point. There are also a large number of lakes, rivers and forests. Scotland's climate is temperate, with cool summers and cold winters. Precipitation is abundant, especially in mountainous areas.
Scotland's history dates back to the Stone Age. The country has been ruled by a succession of peoples and dynasties, including the Celts, Picts, Vikings and English. In 1707, Scotland joined with England to form the United Kingdom.
Scotland has its own parliament, the Scottish Parliament, which has powers in a number of areas, such as education, health and justice. The United Kingdom is governed by a parliamentary monarchy, the current sovereign is King Charles III, who has reigned since September 8, 2022 as head of state.
The population of Scotland is about 5.5 million people. The majority of the population is of Scottish origin, but there are also important minorities of English, Irish and Polish origin. The official language of Scotland is English, but Scottish Gaelic is also spoken by a minority of the population.

GRACIAS GUSTAVO!
