I am building a linux box and have downloaded DTOS Oct 02. Thank you for this walk through and for doing all of this heavy lifting! New to Linux (June 23) and I have Debian and Neon on my machines. It's time for a little Arch and window managers.
Downloaded and installed... super easy to do, in a blink of an eye you find yourself with a perfectly running Arch with a different and captivating touch! I'm totally ignorant about Emacs, but this could be a nice occasion to learn it 😊 This first installation has been implemented on a Thinkpad as a unique OS, but in the next days I would like to repeat the experiment substituting the disk partition with Debian 12 on it in a dual boot X1 Carbon 7th gen. For now all I can say is: GOOD JOB! 👍👍👍
Just did a clean install of DTOS. I'm more used to i3. Gonna take a little learning, but just like with i3, I'll pick it up fairly quick. Loving the look of this distro. Good job.
Nice work DT! Thanks for your time and dedication in making a distro so powerfull and simple. I Hope you have made this on Debian stable or any other stable Linux. Best wishes from Brazil.
Hey Derek-- I'm a former IT Manager/SysAdmin. I was running dual boot with my Surface Pro, Win11 and Garuda. I've followed you for quite some time/really appreciate your content. I wiped out my Garuda and installed DTOS on that partition and really like it. However, I've been having issues getting right-click with my mouse (either touchpad or Logitech USB). It doesn't right-click on the desktop, but does in browser. Hit and miss within terminal. I performed all updates after the install, but still nothing. I fully understand you can't provide any real support, but I tried looking ways to solve it via arch forums/ai, but no luck. Note, it did work in Garuda, but I much prefer your layout for workflow, minimal install, etc. Let me know if you/any of your users could point me in the right direction, if/when you have a moment.
I have installed Arch from the command line with a tiling window manager and have also done the tweaks. However, it's on my test machine which is getting a new drive, and TBO I'm not interested in repeating the process.. So this is perfect. It worked fine after the initial install but I'm now experiencing lockups.
Hi! I love DTOS and have installed it on my main laptop (Dell 9300) and it's A W E S O M E. I have just one problem, during the installation I choose Swedish keyboard but after reboot it is set o US default and every time I reboot or reload qtile it reverts to US. I have tried to find where this is set but no luck. I have created a keyboard layout file for xorg but no luck. Where is this set? Please help so that my experience can go from 99.99% good to 100% GREAT.
Being familiar with Debian and its stability, I was under the impression that updating an arch based system could lead to problems. Love the distro but not sure about arch for stability. Any chances on a Debian based version?
I think he did a video on creating your own distro, at least how he does it. Maybe that would be a good starting point. I, personally, prefer to work off the sweat and tears of others. :D
Very appreciated it. Already I am new on tiling manager. I used kde before with but really wanted to use qtile tiling manager. Yesterday I tried about 7 to 8 hour just wanted to figure haw can setup qtile with fresh arch install. But failed. I am new to Linux. But I guess your dtos can really save me to achieve my goal. And learn about Linux more ❤❤❤ Just wanna ask is your version of tiling manager have floating layout? Like awesome window manager?
I am thinking to switch over from Ubuntu to arch based distro and believe DTOS would be the best match for me which allows me to assess the AUR infinite software repository 😊 at the same time uses minimum system resources, gonna try this....
@@davindersiwal1180 If you have spare time, DTOS might be a distro for you. You must understand it's a distro for Advanced users and you should have some basic insight in emacs, key-bindings, windows managers and so on. It's a big step from Ubuntu. It's even more advanced than a simple Arch installation (if you follow the manual). But it's great to learn a lot about what you really can do with a distro.
Hi DT I realy like what you did with dtos and love using your configs and dmenu-scripts, but I am trying to move to NixOS where none of the dmenu-scripts are working. It would be really coo if you could use these scripts on other distros than arch-based. However keep the good work up
Thing is, what happens when the corporate Linux distros put a contract out on DT? he'll be found dead in his bed, with a severed penguin head next to him.
From reviewing distros to creating a distro. DT has come a long way!
Especially when you remember him saying that he won't do a standalone distro, because he doesn't have the time for it.
@@JerrySM64 Making a distro like this is not hard. It's maintaining it that takes the work.
@@helloimatapir I know and that's why he originally didn't want to do it.
It's super fun to watch someone who is really enthusiastic about his craft.

TTT will be hiding underneath his bed at seeing another pointless distro. DT you are awesome, learnt a lot from you.
good stuff dude,as always
Really cool! Gonna Distro hop over to DTOS tomorrow morning!
20 minutes of DT flexing his Linux skills.
Love this distro... im settinhnup to move to this for my daily driver. Honestly forgot that qtile was so good..
Very cool!
Awesome stuff! Thank you, DT!

Thank you for CopyQ suggestion.
Looks cool!
Looks interesting. Will try it out tomorrow.
DTOS looks like it was made with love
Sick!
Absolutely beautiful job you have done there dt...anyway to introduce aur arch on your next version
wow I never looked deep into the DTOS. I thought it was like a little install script I didn’t realize it was a full blown iso… now I gotta try this
I love this idea. I wish I was smart enough to make a distor
You are smart enough, you just have to have an interest in it and learn how to do it.

Arch Linux I'm guessing is what he's using here.
@@marsdrums6298 Yup, it's Arch.
Yeah if you look at the top bar, it says 6.5.5 arch, but this is DT. You could expect nothing else. :D
You knew at some point you were going to be a distro maintainer.

Guix is quite serious about emacs.
what is the icon theme you have used in dtos
Hey DT! Any news on DTOS?
Does this install on top of an Arch distribution or is it a complete, custom Arch distribution?
Complete distribution. Does not install on top of an existing distro
@@MarioinRmd, thank you 🙏. I’ve just started looking at Linux again after many years away. This one looks pretty cool 😎.
