Hi - Thank you very much for the vid. You obviously know your stuff and are a good teacher. One question - why must your project not be touched by any rust. Does that induce oxidation of the object? Can silver rust? or Copper I know gets green. Thanks again.
Hi! Rust corrodes metal and therefore will weaken your metal. Hope this helps!
So, just to be clear, the pickling pot does not affect the annealing? It only removes firescale?

I've tried to anneal a strip of 5x2mm sterling silver, and nothing will work. Is it took thick? I've used the sharpie method, the flux method, and just checking for the changing of colors, but I can't even seem to get the piece to "glow." Please help!
Hi Meagan. The strip is not too thick but your torch might not be powerful enough to handle it. You either need a more powerful torch - either higher temp or a bushier flame that can cover more ground. If your strip is long, can you some how coil it slightly without messing it up? That way you can hit more of the metal at once instead of having to go up and down. Otherwise, just stick with it, run the torch up and down the strip for longer than before and try to keep the heat consistent.

Thank you for your videos. The one question that I want to ask is how long will the annealing last if you have not bent the metal. Does the flexibility of the metal last if it is not touched or will it get hard again almost immediately?
It does get hard but not right away. Once it has cooled off.
how about annealing fine bronze?
We mainly work with copper and sterling. Tends to be similar to brass. But I would do a little more research on this topic. I am sure there is other material out there:)

Can Stainless Steel be annealed?
Sorry Gloria, but we do not work with Stainless so not sure how that works. I would do a little research on that topic online.

Yes it can, and it is very easy. All you need to do is get it red hot, and then let it air cool. Don't quench in water while hot, as that will have the opposite effect.
